THRIVE: Allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide your day!

Busy calendar? Is it because you have to be or because you let it be? Is it with the right people at the right time on the right topics? Invite God into your scheduling and allow Him to add/remove things from it based on His plans and purpose for your day! Invite the Holy Spirit to grant you wisdom and discernment about what meetings need to happen and which don’t. Invite the Holy Spirit into each meeting to give you the thoughts, the words, and the actions necessary to accomplish God’s will and for Him to receive the glory! Allow new things to be added when the Holy Spirit prompts. Allow existing things to be moved around when the Holy Spirit prompts. Focus on the good works God has prepared in advance for you to accomplish today!

Will you allow the Holy Spirit to clean up your heart, knowing that from the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks? Will you allow the Holy Spirit to fill up your heart with love, knowing that from the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks? Will you allow the Holy Spirit to heal and restore your heart, knowing that from the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks? Will you guard your heart knowing that everything you do flows from it?

From the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks

So who is in control of your day? Are you rejecting God’s wisdom and discernment or accepting it? Are you rejecting God’s purposes and plans for your day or accepting them? Are you rejecting God’s prompting or accepting it? Are you trying to go it alone or are you willing to go it with God and with others? Let’s choose to go through today with God and allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us through it so that we can accomplish God’s will for His glory!

THRIVE: Let’s get ready! Let’s get prayed up! Let’s get filled up!

It’s Sunday and so we need to get ready for what is yet to come. Let’s get prayed up as we start our day, walk through our day, and close our day! Let’s get filled up with the Holy Spirit to the point of overflowing so that we are ready and able to pour into those around us in a way that will point them to Jesus and allow them to receive Him into their lives and be transformed for the rest of eternity!

Heading into week 3 with two incredible weeks behind me with something new every week, what is God preparing in advance for us this coming week? Let’s choose to be obedient and accomplish the good works God has prepared in advance for us to accomplish! Let’s choose to be obedient and receive the call He has for us this week! Let’s choose to be obedient and go where He calls us to go this week! Let’s do all this in a way that reflects who He is and points people back to Him so that in and through it all, God will get the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Let’s thrive for the glory of God and be amazed at how He will move in and through our lives!

THRIVE: Let’s choose to thrive by understanding boundaries and pouring into the lives of others.

To thrive we need to understand the boundaries. To thrive we need to set healthy boundaries. To thrive we need to grasp that they aren’t there to keep us from the pleasures of life but rather are there to protect us. It is important to know the boundaries in place. It is important to set boundaries to ensure a healthy and safe environment. Do you want to thrive? Are you ready to live within the boundaries?

To thrive requires that we pour into the lives of others. To be able to pour into the lives of others means we have to prepare and get filled up to overflowing. When we start in God’s Word and get filled up daily, then we can overflow as God continues to pour into us throughout the day. 2 Corinthians 9:11 tells it to us this way:

You will be enriched in every way to be generous on every occasion, so that through us your giving will produce thanksgiving to God. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

2 Corinthians 9:11

So let’s finish the week strong! Let’s get filled up! Let’s receive from God’s Word! Let’s allow God to continue to pour into us throughout the day! Let’s overflow into the lives of those God brings across our path today. Let’s choose to THRIVE!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘ Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. ‘

Matthew 5:4

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Dad Strong – Day 4.

So are you filled up enough to overflow and pour into the lives of others? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart so that you have the fountain that never runs dry within you? Are you ready to allow Jesus to pour into you, through you, and out of you? Let’s invite Jesus into our very situation today to set the healthy boundaries and fill us up to overflowing!

Let’s Pray!

Dear God
I admit I am a sinner and need your forgiveness; I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place paying the penalty for my sins. I am willing right now to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord. I commit myself to you and ask you to send the Holy Spirit into my life, to fill me and take control, and to help me become the kind of person you want me to be. Thank You Father for loving me. In Jesus' name.
Amen.

Today’s Reading from God’s Word:

THRIVE – Let’s check our hearts to make sure they are ready and right.

It’s the end of the workweek and it has hit me that I need to look inside. The words I have spoken are like lights on the dash of my car, warning me to check under the hood. The responses that I have had are making those lights blink, warning check your heart. There is a lot of change going on and I need to be in the right state of mind and heart to be able to receive it and respond properly. With so much loss of control, it seems that is what is triggering it. Be it at home with kids growing up and having their own lives. Be it at work with organizational changes and uncertainty around what will happen. Be it conversations with others that create questions or concerns. And yet today, it comes down to stopping and checking under the hood.

I first remember a business person’s lunch where our guest speaker Brad spoke to us about a checkup from the neck up about right thinking. I next grab hold of today’s verse of the day speaking about how what’s in our heart will come out of our mouth. We need to inspect our hearts when we are seeing the lights on the dash turning on because those things coming out of our mouths are rooted in our hearts.

So let’s turn to God and ask Him to help us find and clean out our hearts. Let’s ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and discernment about what needs to be taken out of our hearts. Let’s ask God to create a clean heart in us. Let’s realize what we have done turn back with a spirit of repentance and ask for forgiveness.

So let’s make the right decisions today to help us go from surviving to thriving!

Today’s verse of the day comes from Luke 6:45

‘A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. ‘

Luke 6:45

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Strange Words – A Dad’s Prayer For His Children – Day 5

How about you? What is the state of your heart? What is the state of your mind? How is life showing you what’s going on there? Are you ready to move from surviving to thriving? Are you ready to look to clean things up and get things fixed up? Then let’s ask Jesus in and ask Him for help in cleaning things up. Let’s ask Him to step in and help get things fixed up so that from the overflow of our hearts the right things will come out of our mouths. Let’s invite Jesus into our hearts and allow Him to lead and guide us as our Lord and Savior.

Let’s pray:

Amen.

A New Work Week Begins…

It’s an interesting day as my body got me up much earlier than I normally do. No specific thoughts that were causing worry or anxiety just a sense of let’s get going. So I prayed as I always do before getting out of bed for my wife, kids, family, and the day ahead and then rolled over and got out of bed. I had tried to go back to sleep but it just wasn’t going to happen.

So a new work week begins and so new thoughts are starting to bounce around in my head. Between yesterday’s devotional on All Things New captured in my post Sick and tired of being sick and tired? Ready for something news? What’s it going to take? and this morning’s devotional of Starting Over, it makes me wonder what God is planning and preparing as the year continues. I keep drawing closer. I keep praying. I keep asking. I keep seeking. And His Word continues to speak. I reflect on my mid year conversations and God’s Word continues to speak. I reflect on the larger purpose/plan with the theme around Be The Dads that God put in my head as I was praying and reading through the Matthew Barnett book The Cause within You: Finding the One Great Thing God Created You to Do in This World that I had picked up on one of his visits to our church. As I consider how my family has grown up with my oldest preparing to head out in January, my middle preparing to head out in August, and my youngest continuing his journey, where I am and what I do will need to adjust too as we get closer (my wife and I) to becoming empty nesters – still a few more years to go before that happens but it is on the radar now.

So I need to be moldable in God’s hands. I need to be ready for the good works He is preparing in advance for me to accomplish. I need to prepare spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally for what is yet to come. He’s not done with me yet. I know my final destination will be in eternity with Him and I want to finish the race on this side strong in hopes of hearing Him say the words “well done good and faithful servant”. And so today as I try to process the early morning wake up call and what this day and this week will contain, I turn to God and His Word to receive guidance, wisdom, and strength to make it a reality.

Starting Over

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.’

Jeremiah 18:3-4

Let’s pause and grasp the context of today’s verses by looking at more of the chapter in the Amplified version:

‘The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will make you hear My words.” Then I went down to the potter’s house, and saw that he was working at the wheel. But the vessel that he was making from clay was spoiled by the potter’s hand; so he made it over, reworking it and making it into another pot that seemed good to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me: “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?” says the Lord. “Look carefully, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel. At one moment I might [suddenly] speak concerning a nation or kingdom, that I will uproot and break down and destroy; if that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent and reverse My decision concerning the devastation that I intended to do. Or at another time I might [suddenly] speak about a nation or kingdom that I will build up or establish; and if they do evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will reverse My decision concerning the good with which I had promised to bless them. Now then, say to the men of Judah and to the citizens of Jerusalem, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Behold, I am shaping a disaster and working out a plan against you. Turn back, each of you from his evil way; correct your habits and change your actions for the better.” ’ But they will say, ‘That is hopeless! For we are going to follow our own plans, and each of us will act in accordance with the stubbornness of his evil heart.’ “Therefore thus says the Lord, ‘Ask now among the nations, Who has heard of such things? The virgin Israel Has done a very vile and horrible thing. Will the snow of [Mount] Lebanon melt and vanish from its rocks [which tower above Israel]? Will the cold, rushing waters of foreign lands [that flow down from the distant land] be dried up? Yet My people have forgotten Me; They burn incense to worthless gods, They have stumbled from their ways From the ancient roads, To walk in pathways, Not on a highway, Making their land a desolation and a horror, A thing to be hissed at perpetually; Everyone who passes by will be astounded And shake his head [in scorn]. I will scatter them like an east wind Before the enemy; I will show them My back and not My face In the day of their disaster [says the Lord].’ ” Then [my enemies] said, “Come and let us work out schemes against Jeremiah. Surely the law is not going to be lost to the priest [as Jeremiah predicts], nor the counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come and let us strike him with our tongue [by making charges against him before the king], and let us ignore anything he says.” Pay attention to me, O Lord [and intercede]; Listen to what my adversaries are saying [and are plotting against me]— Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have dug a pit for me. Remember [with compassion] that I stood before You To speak good on their behalf, To turn Your anger away from them. Therefore, give their children over to the famine; Give them over to the power of the sword. And let their wives become childless and widowed; Let their men meet death [by virulent disease], Their young men be struck down by the sword in battle. Let an outcry be heard from their houses When You suddenly bring [a troop of] raiders upon them, For they have dug a pit to capture me And have hidden snares for my feet. Yet You, O Lord, know All their deadly plotting against me; Do not forgive their wickedness Or blot out their sin from Your sight. But let them be overthrown before You; Deal with them in the time of Your anger.’

Jeremiah 18:1-23

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Even when broken beyond repair, we can be made new in the Potter’s hands.
  • God’s not ready to give up on us and so we shouldn’t be willing to give up on us either.
  • Let’s give what is broken or holding us back to God and allow Him to start over, make us new, transform us.
  • Let’s allow God to take our fears and replace them with faith like He did with Abraham.
  • Let’s allow God to take our lies and replace them with His truth like He did with Jacob.
  • Let’s allow God to take our denials and rejection and replace them with His forgiveness and purpose like He did with Peter.
  • Just like all the people God gave a do-over or who God allowed to start over, let’s not lose hope but instead take hold of the reality of who He is in order that we too can be healed, forgiven, restored, and be able to start a new as we begin our today.
  • Let’s choose to be smooth, workable, and sticky so that we can be molded by God.
  • Let’s allow God to take away the rough and hard edges.
  • Let’s allow God to continue to form us and mold us to be useful.
  • Let’s allow God to continue to form us and mold us to be beautiful.
  • Let’s allow God to work out imperfections or flaws so that we can become who He has created us to be.
  • Let’s live with the hope that God isn’t going to throw us away but rather His plan for us is good and comes with hope and a future!
  • Let’s be ok if He needs to start over with us because we know He is doing so out of love!
  • Let’s be ok if He needs to start over with us because we know that He will remove the flaws and imperfections.
  • Let’s rejoice in the reality of when He starts over as He removes the flaws and adds in elements necessary for us to be better like His Spirit, accountability friends, and the guidance of His Word!
  • Let’s not become impatient as it takes time!
  • Let’s remember we are being molded for His purpose and for a specific use!
  • Let’s allow Him to both mold us into the vessel He desires and then be ready when the time is right to be used for His purpose.
  • If we need to wait to become useful again, don’t lose hope or start to worry! God’s timing is perfect!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • What kind of flaws can make us unusable to the Potter?
  • What’s your role and what’s God’s role in shaping you?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“The God who made you can make you over.”

Do you realize that you are a vessel with purpose?

Do you realize that you are a vessel with a plan? So what are you allowing to fill you up in order to help empower you to accomplish and arrive what you need to do and where you need to go? How are you making sure you are filled up and fueled up to be able to accomplish your purpose? How are you making sure you are filled up and fueled up to be able to make it to your final destination?

Yes, we are all different. Yes, we each have our individual purpose and plan. Yes, we each have our own look. Yes, we each have our own skills and talents. So how are you making sure that you are in good shape on the inside and out? How are you making sure that you are ready for the good work God has prepared in advance for you to accomplish? How are you preparing yourself and living your life so that you will be able to give and get a good report on that final day?

Are you ready? Are you ready to get ready? Are you prepared for today?

This is the day that the Lord has made, so let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Let’s make sure to take time to get filled up with love from God’s love!

Let’s make sure to take time to stay connected in order to not run dry!

Let’s make sure to stay attached to the fountain of life so as to be able to overflow into the lives of those God brings across your path!

No matter what type of vessel we are, what style of vessel we are, what material we are made of, let’s remember the creator, God, and let’s choose to be ready to accomplish our purpose for today!

God’s Vessel

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. ‘

II Timothy 2:20-21

Let’s expand on this to make sure we get additional context on what is being said and get some additional details using the Amplified translation:

‘Remind the people of these facts, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God to avoid petty controversy over words, which does no good, and [upsets and undermines and] ruins [the faith of] those who listen. Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth. But avoid all irreverent babble and godless chatter [with its profane, empty words], for it will lead to further ungodliness, and their teaching will spread like gangrene. So it is with Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have deviated from the truth. They claim that the resurrection has already taken place, and they undermine the faith of some. Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God [which He has laid] stands [sure and unshaken despite attacks], bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord stand apart from wickedness and withdraw from wrongdoing.” Now in a large house there are not only vessels and objects of gold and silver, but also vessels and objects of wood and of earthenware, and some are for honorable (noble, good) use and some for dishonorable (ignoble, common). Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things [which are dishonorable—disobedient, sinful], he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified [set apart for a special purpose and], useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. Run away from youthful lusts—pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those [believers] who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But have nothing to do with foolish and ignorant speculations [useless disputes over unedifying, stupid controversies], since you know that they produce strife and give birth to quarrels. The servant of the Lord must not participate in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone [even-tempered, preserving peace, and he must be], skilled in teaching, patient and tolerant when wronged. He must correct those who are in opposition with courtesy and gentleness in the hope that God may grant that they will repent and be led to the knowledge of the truth [accurately understanding and welcoming it], and that they may come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.’

2 Timothy 2:14-26

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • So how much value are you wanting to produce from your life?
  • How much value have you decided will come from living your life?
  • God has given us the opportunity to choose!
  • Will you choose to live a life that is valuable or worthless?
  • Unlike the items we buy at the store that don’t get a choice of how they will get used, we do, we get to choose if we will live our lives to be valuable or worthless!
  • So are you going to choose to live a life that is honoring and useful to God?
  • Are you going to choose to live a life that is dirty and broken that doesn’t serve any purpose?
  • Let’s take hold of the truth from God’s Word! Let’s grab hold of what Paul shared about how we can choose to cleanse ourselves and become useful to God!
    • ‘Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things [which are dishonorable—disobedient, sinful], he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified [set apart for a special purpose and], useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. ‘ — 2 Timothy 2:21
  • Are you able to see what needs to be cleaned up in your own life?
  • Ever found it easier to notice what others need to work on more than yourself?
  • Ever looked in the mirror of the Bible in order to be able to determine the things you need to clean up, wipe off, and throw out?
  • Let’s take hold of the reality that sin is sin, we missed the mark, rather than compare and contrast the size of the sin, how far we missed the mark, let’s instead focus on taking care of it and addressing it in a way that will cleanse our hearts and our minds so as to be available for use by God!
  • Are there any big items left to be taken care of like when you first had an encounter with Jesus and the Holy Spirit shined His light on you to show you things that needed to get changed?
  • Are you keeping an eye out for the smaller things that still need buffing and polishing to get things and keep things clean and ready for God’s use that the Holy Spirit is shining His light on today?
  • Have you taken care of the obvious items? Are you taking care of the more subtle and hidden ones like pride, jealousy, and resentment?
  • How do you respond to the Holy Spirit when He points out sin in your life?
  • We each get to choose our response!
  • Do you say yes and repent? Do you say no and keep doing it?
  • Will you decide today when prompted by the Holy Spirit to say yes in order that He can prepare you for every good work?

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • What does it mean to be usable to God? What are some ways He uses you?
  • Is the Spirit pointing out any sin in your life that you need to repent of? If so, how will you respond?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“Do not have your concert first, and then tune your instrument afterwards. Begin the day with the Word of God and prayer, and get first of all into harmony with Him.”

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you at today? Are you a vessel ready to take on God’s work? Are you a vessel cleaned up on the inside and out and ready to accomplish God’s purpose and plan for your life? Are you a vessel that is prepared to do the good works God has prepared in advance for you to accomplish? Are you ready to turn to Him and walk out your today with Him? Are you ready to be filled up with God’s love in order to overflow and live out your today for Him?

Are you ready? Are you prepared? Are you positioned? Are you cleansed? In order to be able to receive and to pour out?

Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father
I come to you in prayer asking for the
forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my
mouth and believe with my heart that
Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the
Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven.
and have Eternal Life in the Kingdom of
Heaven. Father, I believe that Jesus rose
from the dead and I ask you right now to
come in to my life and be my personal
Lord and Savior. I repent of my Sins and
will Worship you all the day's of my Life!
Because your word is truth, I confess with
my mouth that I am Born Again and
Cleansed by the Blood of Jesus! In Jesus
Name, Amen

Do you have it or do you need it?

As this thought came to mind and I stirred around songs that speak to what you have or for those who haven’t made the decision could have, it was interesting because the first song that came up felt like the right one but I wasn’t sure if it would fit with today’s topic. So let’s take a moment and watch and listen to grab of the words being shared and what we can decide to accept and choose.

Zach Williams – Chain Breaker

As I consider how having started a relationship with Jesus and how it has transformed my life, my purpose, my plans, my perspective, and my responses and actions, I realize there are so many benefits to having a relationship with Jesus including but not limited to never being alone, never being abandoned, and always having someone to talk to about anything. When all I have is Jesus, I have everything that I need.

How about you? What do you have? What do you need? Do you have what you need? If we reflect on the song, are there things you would like Jesus to take from you? Are there things you would like Jesus to break off or break away from you? Are there things you would like to have more of like love, freedom, or just to be saved? Could today be the day you realize and accept Jesus into your life? Could today be the day you decide to invite Jesus into your life and allow Him to help transform you and your life from the inside out? Could today be the day you start new and afresh knowing you are good, clean and clear, forgiven and reconciled with God?

So what do you have? What do you need? Do know you you’ve got?

Know What You’ve Got

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” ‘

Hebrews 13:5

Let’s consider the context of this message and grab hold of the moral directions that were being given and expand on it by using the Amplified version:

‘Let love of your fellow believers continue. Do not neglect to extend hospitality to strangers [especially among the family of believers—being friendly, cordial, and gracious, sharing the comforts of your home and doing your part generously], for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as if you were their fellow prisoner, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body [and subject to physical suffering]. Marriage is to be held in honor among all [that is, regarded as something of great value], and the marriage bed undefiled [by immorality or by any sexual sin]; for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Let your character [your moral essence, your inner nature] be free from the love of money [shun greed—be financially ethical], being content with what you have; for He has said, “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax M y hold on you [assuredly not]!” So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently say, “The Lord is my Helper [in time of need], I will not be afraid . W hat will man do to me ?” ‘

Hebrews 13:1-6

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Are you content with what you have or are you wanting what others have?
  • Are you considering what you have rather than comparing and coveting what your neighbor has?
  • What is causing the insecurity that makes you think or feel you need what others have?
  • What is the reason behind the fear?
  • Fear wants to rob from us! The Bible tells us that faith is the antidote of fear!
  • The devil wants to stir up fear and worry in order to rob us for peace and contentment.
  • Are you ready to fear not and start to believe in God?
  • If it isn’t fear that is causing you to not be content, could it be greed?
  • Do you realize how craving things rather than God and a relationship with Him robs our hearts?
  • Do you realize how craving things robs ruins relationships?
  • Don’t be robbed by greed! Take hold of God and invite Jesus into your heart! He is the only one who can fill that hole you would keep trying to fill!
  • Let’s not allow fear and greed to rob us of everything God desires for us!
  • When that feeling arises, let’s take hold of it and give it over to God!
  • When that thought comes to mind, let’s take every thought captive in order to be able to have the right response.
  • Let’s decide to get rid of every covetous thought!
  • Let’s decide to replace any covetous thought with a thought of contentment!
  • You might be wondering how do we do that. Let’s in the moment remember that every good and perfect gift comes from God! Let’s in the moment remember how we have the promise that God will never leave us nor forsake/abandon us.
  • Let’s allow our hearts to be filled to overflowing with love, mercy, grace, and strength from God!
  • Let’s take hold of the reality that thanks to God we have everything that we need!
  • Let’s invest our time and efforts in building up our relationship with Jesus so that we can have true contentment and the richness of His love and friendship.
  • God promises to be as close as our breath!
  • God promises to never leave us for a second!
  • Do you have an empty spot that you are trying to fill?
  • What is the cause or the reason for the empty feeling?
  • If we allow God to pour into our hearts to overflowing, it will never feel empty and will allow us to be able to pour out into the lives of so many others that God brings across our path.
  • Let’s decide to be people who allow God to fill us to overflowing so that we can overflow His presence into the lives of others who are in need and needing to be filled up!
  • Let’s take hold of this incredible relationship with Jesus who is our King, our Savior, and our Best Friend!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • How much do you crave things? What do you hope they’ll do for you?
  • In what way does Christ’s presence give us true contentment?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“It is a dangerous thing to ask why someone else has been given more. It is humbling and indeed healthy to ask why you have been given so much.”

Will you allow your life be know by love? Will you be so filled that you keep pouring out?

Read an interesting post the other day which reminded me of a book a pastor friend had gifted me many years back. It was a book titled Love Is A Killer App by Tim Sanders. It was interesting as the way to live was tagged as the lovecat way in his book and it all resonated with me a bunch as it was in alignment with the way I try to live my life. It speaks to how life is about loving others. It speaks about relationships and working together. It was such a great book I lent it to a coworker when he was questioning some things and asking some questions that I thought might be helped and encouraged through the book. The book was the catalyst for me to reach out and get connected with Tim too.

So as I start this day and consider how can I be pouring love into the lives of everyone who comes across my path, the only answer I can come up with is that it requires me to be filled up to overflowing or else I will run out. So I turn to my source who pours into me because He is love! God is love! God loves so much that He gives! God is generous! God is so great that He can’t run out of love! So it is a matter of being willing to stay connected to God in order to stay filled with love! By staying connected just as we are the branches and Jesus is the vine, then Jesus’s love can flow into and through us. By staying connected as the branches to Jesus, the Father is able to help prune us and help us produce even more fruit of the kingdom. So let’s not run dry or run out of love! Let’s stay connected to the well, the well of living water, the well whose water will keep us from thirsting. Let’s be like those water displays where we see the water bubbling up and slowly pouring over the rim as the water tension breaks and out into all that is around them. Let’s allow Jesus’s fountain to fill us to overflowing with love, that there is no room for anything but love so that we can pour that love into the world around us that so needs it. Let’s receive God as our source and allow our hearts, our minds, and our strength to just exude and overflow in love!

Do you realize the power that comes from being filled with love? Do you realize the energy and motivation that comes from being filled with love? Do you realize the perseverance and determination that comes from being filled with love? Do you realize the patience and kindness that comes from being filled with love? Do you realize the humility and the grace that comes from being filled with love? Are you ready to be filled with love to overflowing today?

Will you be know to others by your love? Will you be the one who lights up a room because they know your love? Will you be the reflection of Jesus we are called to be into the dark world we live in? Could today be your day to share that love?

No Greater Commandment

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. ‘

Mark 12:29-30

Love is so important, let’s take a look a bit more at this topic by expanding the verses we quote and see what we can grasp and take hold of. We see above the top, the first, main commandment. Imagine if all the commandments could be summarized into just two.

‘Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”’

Mark 12:28-31

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Are you willing to give God everything you have?
  • Are you willing to give it so that He can fill you?
  • Are you willing to give God every bit of passion you have?
  • Are you willing to give God every bit of heart you have?
  • Are you willing to give God every bit of love you have?
  • Are you willing to be emptied in order for God to fill you?
  • Are you willing to put God first?
  • Are you willing in your prioritization of life and putting first things first, to put God first?
  • Are you willing to be fully devoted to God?
  • Do you realize that we were created to be fully devoted to God and we live and work at top performance or peak performance when that is how we live?
  • Are you willing to go from living moderately for God to living fully for God?
  • Are you willing to go from giving to God moderately to giving to God fully?
  • You can live other areas of your life in moderation like diet, exercise, sleep, work habits, spending, investing, and most other aspect, but with God we need to be all in.
  • Let’s pursue God passionately!
  • Let’s pursue God vigilantly!
  • Let’s pursue God completely!
  • Let’s give Him all of our heart, all of our soul, all of our mind, and all of our strength!
  • He gave it all that we could be saved by sending us Jesus!
  • Jesus paid it all and so we have no other response than to love God fully!
  • Do you realize that all the various rules and regulations, processes and procedures that come up for us to follow don’t measure up to the reality that LOVE makes in our lives?
  • Do you realize that the first and main thing that we need to do is love God with everything that we have?
  • Do you realize that the second and equally important thing we need to do is love our neighbors as ourselves?
  • If we do these two things then we have covered all the rules and regulations!
  • By putting God first and loving God with everything we have, our lives come into alignment with the will of God!
  • By putting God first and loving God with everything we have, He is able to fill us up to overflowing in order that we can pour His love into the world around us.
  • By putting God first and loving God with everything we have, we won’t fall into the lies and the traps of the enemy that leads us into trying to be people pleasers, proving ourselves, or hiding from risks.
  • So let’s choose today to live our lives putting God first, loving Him with everything we have, so that we can live out the rest of our lives the way God created us to.

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • What would it mean for you to love God with all of your heart?
  • What changes would you need to make?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“The true follower of Christ will not ask, ‘If I embrace this truth, what will it cost me?’. Rather he will say ‘This is the truth. God help me to walk in it, let come what may!'”

What’s in your heart? It’s a fountain of its content and what comes out of it is what it is filled with.

So what are you allowing into your heart? Is it love or hate? Is it forgiveness or bitterness? Is it joy or anger? Are you allowing it to take root? Are you allowing it to grow? Are you allowing it to bloom and flooring? What will pour out of it when life gets tough?

“To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.”

Proverbs‬ ‭16:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.”

Matthew‬ ‭15:18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

So, what’s in our heart? Are you ready to replace the hate with love? Are you ready to replace the bitterness with forgiveness? Are you ready to replace the anger with joy? Will you invite Jesus into your heart so that you He can help you clean things up?

The Well of the Heart

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

“What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”

Matthew‬ ‭15:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Are you more focused on the outside than the inside?
  • Are you more focused on appearance than reality?
  • Are you more focused on what you are allowing into your heart than what is coming out?
  • Are you more focused on rules, regulations, and routines than on having a real relationship with others and with God?
  • Ready to turn things around and take hold of what Jesus has to say and offer?
  • Ready to turn things around and start or improve your relationship with Jesus?
  • Let’s be more focused on what comes out of our mouthed than what we put into them!
  • Let’s be more focused on the content of our heart and how the words we choose to use can create rather than destroy and heal rather than hurt!
  • How do you communicate with others?
  • You do you communicate with those you love?
  • How are you with the words you speak? Is it intentional or habitual?
  • Are you more interested in being smart or snarky or sarcastic or loving?
  • Let’s purpose to speaking more lovingly in order to bring healing!
  • Let’s tell people how much we love them!
  • Let’s tell people how proud we are of them!
  • Let’s tell people when we see and recognize things hey are really good at!
  • Don’t cut people by using critical words!
  • Don’t hurt people by using sarcasm!
  • Don’t allow silence to cause others to feel self-doubt or emptiness!
  • Be observant of the words that comes out of your mouth as a barometer of what is going on in your heart and look to adjust accordingly!
  • If you are finding that what is pouring out of you is negative, biting, caustic, or sarcastic then turn to God and ask Him to help fill you with faith, hope, and love to overflowing so that what comes out of you aligns with Him more!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • Think of the conversation you’ve had in the past day. How would you describe the content of your words?
  • What changes do you need to make in your communication, especially with those you love?

What do you fill your tank with?

What is it that motivates you? What is it that keeps you on track? What is it that gives you direction? What is it that gives you the force to move forward or move on? What is it that is giving you momentum? What is it that keeps you aligned? What is it that keeps you focused? What is your source? What is it that keeps you loyal? What is it that keeps you going, no matter what?

Are you focused on God and His will and plans? Are you focused on the will of man and their selfish ambitions? Are you focused on God’s Word? Are you focused on the worlds instant gratification and greed? Are you focused on having your tank filled by God and then overflowing into the lives of others? Are you focused on getting as much as you can as quickly as you can? Are you more focused on the influx or the outflux in your life? Are you more interested in what you can get than what you can give?

Do you realize that what you allow into your heart makes a difference? Do you realize that how you fill up your life tank makes a difference? It can energize and motivate you or it can consume and corrode you. It is important in life to choose wisely! It is important in life to be blessed and be generous! It is more important in life to be a giver than a taker!

Do you realize how much God loves? God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whosoever would believe on Him would not perish but would have everlasting life! That’s right God loves so much that He is a giver! Do you realize that God loves so much that He even allows us to test Him with giving to see who can give more? Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure. That is right and God loves a hilarious giver, you may have heard cheerful but if you look into it deeper it is really that He loves a hilarious giver. So will you live to give or will you live to receive? Have you ever heard it is better to give than to receive? Did you realize that comes from the Bible? Check it out in Acts 20:35. So the cool part is that it isn’t a decision that will be forced on you but it is something you get to freely decide on your own. Will you choose to receive the gift of grace through Jesus or not? The choice is yours!

What’s in your box?

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY: Matthew 6:24
(You Cannot Serve God and Riches)

‘“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.’

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • What is your one thing?
  • If you were given the opportunity to have 1 thing but it can be anything, what would you choose?
  • There are so many things competing for your attention, what will you choose?
  • There are so many things competing for your affection, what will you choose?
  • There are so many things competing for your heart, so what will you choose to rule over or fill your heart?
  • What are they offering you to try and convince you to choose them?
  • What are they tempting you with to try and convince you to choose them?
  • What do they have to offer that might capture your attention, if only for a moment?
  • Are they offering you pleasure?
  • Are they offering you thrills?
  • Are they offering you status?
  • Are they offering you the ability to impress?
  • Are they offering you the opportunity to escape?
  • But is what they are offering you real? Is what they are offering you going to last?
  • Where are you hearing such offers?
  • Is it in the office? Is it on TV? Is it through advertising? Is it on the billboard on that drive? Is it through friends? …
  • Are they trying to fulfill a dream that you have?
  • But who will you trust? Who will you go to? Who will you listen to? Who has what you really need?
  • Are you buying what they are selling?
  • Will they convince you to accept their offer or temptation?
  • Remember, you only can choose one thing! Like today’s verse tells us!
    • ‘“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.’ — Matthew 6:24
  • Consider these verses too…
    • Romans 6:16 – ‘ Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves to anyone to do his will, you are the slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness (right doing and right standing with God)?’
    • 2 Peter 2:19 – ‘ They promise them liberty, when they themselves are the slaves of depravity and defilement–for by whatever anyone is made inferior or worse or is overcome, to that [person or thing] he is enslaved.’
  • In the busy things of life, in the noises that come along with it, will you stop and find a quiet place where you can listen for and hear that still quiet voice that will speak truth and life in love to you from the Holy Spirit?
  • Will you set time aside to turn to and listen to the one who will will speak the truth of who Jesus is and what God is offering you?
    • John 14:6 shares: ‘ Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.’
  • Will you choose God and accept His plan for you that gives you hope and a future?
  • Will you choose God and accept Jesus who came that you can have the adventure of v life and life more abundantly or to the full?
  • So what will you allow to fill your tank? your life? your box?

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
Identify some of the competing voices and their promises in your life.
  • TV – shows and ads
  • Radio – shows and ads
  • Internet – sites, stores, ads
  • Video games and ads
  • I have had to turn on ad blockers and even uninstall games because of the types of ads they play
  • I have had to turn to DVR shows so that I can skip ads or parts of shows
What have you had in your box in the past year or so? What are you putting in your box now?
  • God has been so critical to me over the past year to help me through some rough and tough times
  • He helped me keep from putting anger and frustration, bitterness and unforgiveness into my heart or allowing bitterness to take root

So what is it or who is it that you will serve? How will that impact your worship? How will that impact the rest of your life?

Where are you at today? Are you looking for guidance? Are you wondering where to turn? Are you at the end of your rope and needing help? Are you ready for some help? Are you ready to turn to God and ask? seek? knock? Let’s pray together:

In Jesus
Name, Amen

Love moved First

As we head into Valentine’s day weekend the theme of love came to mind. All morning before I got before my computer the song by Casting Crowns kept playing in my head Love Moved First. As I was getting ready to head up to write the ideas around how much God loved us, even though we weren’t even alive yet, that He moved first and sent Jesus, He gave His one and only Son that whosoever would believe on Him would not perish but would have everlasting life. As I was getting ready the idea of how God is love and there is no darkness in Him came to mind. As I was getting ready the thought of God is Love and so that means that God is patient, is kind, He does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud, He does not dishonor others, He is not self-seeking, He is not easily angered, He keeps no record of wrongs, God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth, He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. God never fails.

So as we prepare for this day, will we move in love, will we act in love, will we speak in love, will we prepare in love, will we plan in love, will what comes out of us be from the overflow of love? Will we fill ourselves with love so that the overflow into the lives around us will be love? From the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks!

Hope you have a GREAT day and a Happy Valentine’s Day weekend. Choose love! Remember, Love moved First! Let’s listen to the song before we continue…

God’s Peace Plan

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY: Psalms 29:11

‘The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.’

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Peace, what do you think it is? How do you think you can get it?
  • Peace with God – do you have it?
  • Peace of God – do you have it?
  • Peace with others – do you have it?
  • The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
  • Peace with God comes through faith and brings justification!
  • Peace of God requires action and is impacted in how we live our lives. Imagine if we lived out our lives like Philippians 4:4-7 and how we would be filled with and so connected to God that we could feel that peace that surpasses all understanding.
    • ‘Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.’ — Philippians 4:4-7
  • Peace isn’t the absent of war.
  • Peace isn’t the absent of hassles.
  • Peace is found in the wonder and awe of God.
  • God in the midst of storms can bring peace by calming the storm or by calming the storm in us, walking us through the external storms of life.
  • Through faith we can find strength and peace through God.
  • In the midst of the storms, the winds, and the waves, God is able to bring in us a peace that surpasses all understanding.
  • He will bring us peace in spite of the troubles, trials, and storms of life.
  • If we focus on God rather than the storm then His peace can comfort and strengthen us!
  • If we focus on how great our God is rather than how big our problems are then His peace can comfort and strengthen us!
  • God is love! Let’s never forget that God is love!
  • So are you facing troubles, trials, or storms of life? Are you focusing on how big they are more than how BIG your God is? Change your focus to be on God’s wonder and awe! When we focus on God, His peace can fill us! So let’s praise Him! Let’s worship Him! Let’s live out our today as living sacrifices in order to bring Him the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name!
  • Let’ take hold of God’s peace plan by staying in connection with Him and keeping our focus on Him and remembering He is bigger than any trouble, problem, or storm of life that can come our way!
  • Let’s allow our faith to grow by focusing on His greatness!
  • As we do, our peace will grow too!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
What’s the connection between wonder and peace?
  • When we focus on God rather than our problems we can find peace!
  • When we remember the wonders and awe of God our problems pale in comparison and so His peace that surpasses all understand can guard our hearts and minds.
What are somethings you can do to increase your sense of wonder at God’s power?
  • Consider God’s creation!
  • Consider the beauty of the sky He created!
  • Consider the beauty of nature that He created!
  • Focus on how GREAT He is!

QUOTES FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“God takes life’s broken pieces and gives us unbroken peace.”

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

  • Exodus 30
  • Exodus 31
    • Do you realize the skills, gifts, talents God has given you?
    • Are you ready to use them for a purpose greater than yourself?

So are you ready for love? Are you ready for God’s peace? Are you ready to let God take life’s broken pieces and receive unbroken peace?

Where are you at today? Are you looking for guidance? Are you wondering where to turn? Are you at the end of your rope and needing help? Are you ready for some help? Are you ready to turn to God and ask? seek? knock? Let’s pray together.

Filled to overflowing…

What are you filled with? How full are you? Is there enough coming in that you are now overflowing? What are you full of? How is your life showing what is inside you? Are the words you are speaking telling what is in your heart? Ever considered when you speak something without realizing what you are saying till after you have said it? How is the Holy Spirit working in and through you? Do you respond to the still quiet voice? Will you accept God’s instruction and direction even when it isn’t a big, monumental thing? Do you think you would rather hear a still small voice or a big booming voice? Would you need to see it to believe it? How will you overcome the weariness of what has been going on in 2020? How can you overcome the weariness of what has been going on in 2020 before Christmas? God’s got a way! God’s willing! Are you ready? Are you willing? Are you prepared? Will you turn to God and allow the Holy Spirit to speak? Will you turn to God and allow yourself to be obedient to the Holy Spirit? Will you walk the walk? Will you talk to talk? Will you submit yourself to the will of God? Consider Mary and the inconvenience she had to undergo in going to Jerusalem, about a 9-10 day trip, 9 months pregnant because the government mandated it and was most likely going to use it to increase taxes? Imagine if she had of said no because it was too uncomfortable and inconvenient. God is able to to use all things to accomplish His plans. It had been foretold hundreds of years earlier that the savior would be born in Jerusalem and God found a way to get Him there. Sometimes we need to do what we are forced to do in order to be in position to fulfill God’s plan(s). God’s way is not my way, but it is so much better and higher than my way. When I reflect on troubling times and the lessons learned and the lives touched through it I wouldn’t change a thing. When I reflect on the trials and the faith building that came through them and the work it did in and through me I wouldn’t change a thing. Be it the lesson of God qualifying the called rather than calling the qualified. Be it the lesson of forgiveness. Be it the lesson of being uncomfortable in order to arrive in position to step into God’s plan. In each of these cases, it wasn’t fun in the moment but God was able to work in and use those times to teach and test and refine me and help me to be able to testify of His hand over me and guiding me and teaching me through it all by the power of the Holy Spirit. Will you allow the Holy Spirit to not only bring significance and meaning to the situation but also infuse it into the situation so that others are able to be a part of God’s masterpiece? Will you allow the Holy Spirit to add life to the party and overcome the weariness with joy, the joy of Jesus into our lives? Remember how God has prepared all the good works in advance for us to accomplish. Remember how God doesn’t want us to grow weary in doing the good works! So let’s consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kinds! Let’s take heart when we face troubles because we know that Jesus has already overcome it. Let’s be filled with the Holy Spirit in order to replace weariness with joy! Let’s allow the joy of the Lord to be our strength! Let’s take hold of the reason for the season!

So let’s be filled with the Holy Spirit to overflowing that we can live out our lives in a way that will pour into the lives of the people around us and help them to be and become the people God has created them to be. Remember it’s a new beginning and so it’s time to be ready and get ready and be prepared for this new adventure.

✨MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU✨

A Weary World Rejoices
– Five Days of Preparing Your Heart for Christmas

Our first Christmas devotional has the prelude of:

Weariness can steal the joy from our Christmas journey! Let the Nativity refresh your heart as you walk with Zechariah, Elizabeth, Joseph, Mary and the shepherds in preparation to experience Emmanuel this holiday season.

— A Weary World Rejoices – Five Days of Preparing Your Heart for Christmas

So today’s focus as we read from God’s Word are: (Day 2)

Today’s Reading:

My Notes:

  • ‘ Now after this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant, and for five months she secluded herself entirely, saying, [I have hid myself] Because thus the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He deigned to look on me to take away my reproach among men. [Gen. 30:23; Isa. 4:1.]’
    — Luke 1:24-25
  • ‘ For he will be great and distinguished in the sight of the Lord. And he must drink no wine nor strong drink, and he will be filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit even in and from his mother’s womb. [Num. 6:3.]’
    — Luke 1:15
  • ‘ And at that time Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country to a town of Judah, And she went to the house of Zachariah and, entering it, saluted Elizabeth. And it occurred that when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit. And she cried out with a loud cry, and then exclaimed, Blessed (favored of God) above all other women are you! And blessed (favored of God) is the Fruit of your womb! And how [have I deserved that this honor should] be granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, the instant the sound of your salutation reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed (happy, to be envied) is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of the things that were spoken to her from the Lord.’
    — Luke 1:39-45
    • If God puts words in your mouth to speak as words of encouragement, strength, hope, and love to be spoken to and over another person, will you say it? Will you be a conduit for God through His Holy Spirit rather than trying to be an advocate for the devil? There is enough negativity in the world so when God calls you to shine light and love and hope will you take the call and reflect His light into the world around you?
    • If God tells you to go, will you go? Maybe God is sending you to hear a message, like how Mary received the message from God when the Holy Spirit filled her and controlled her to speak life over Mary. Who will you be the words of encouragement for this week to help revive and renew the wearied around you?
    • One thing I love remembering and taking hold of is that in the old testament the Holy Spirit was somewhat temporary whereas when Jesus was preparing to return to heaven He shared how the Holy Spirit will be with us as our comforter forever and our guide because we have received Him.

Where are you at today? Are you feeling weary? Are you looking for support and encouragement? Are you wanting to get your journey with God started? Let’s pray together.
