THRIVE: Allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide your day!

Busy calendar? Is it because you have to be or because you let it be? Is it with the right people at the right time on the right topics? Invite God into your scheduling and allow Him to add/remove things from it based on His plans and purpose for your day! Invite the Holy Spirit to grant you wisdom and discernment about what meetings need to happen and which don’t. Invite the Holy Spirit into each meeting to give you the thoughts, the words, and the actions necessary to accomplish God’s will and for Him to receive the glory! Allow new things to be added when the Holy Spirit prompts. Allow existing things to be moved around when the Holy Spirit prompts. Focus on the good works God has prepared in advance for you to accomplish today!

Will you allow the Holy Spirit to clean up your heart, knowing that from the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks? Will you allow the Holy Spirit to fill up your heart with love, knowing that from the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks? Will you allow the Holy Spirit to heal and restore your heart, knowing that from the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks? Will you guard your heart knowing that everything you do flows from it?

From the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks

So who is in control of your day? Are you rejecting God’s wisdom and discernment or accepting it? Are you rejecting God’s purposes and plans for your day or accepting them? Are you rejecting God’s prompting or accepting it? Are you trying to go it alone or are you willing to go it with God and with others? Let’s choose to go through today with God and allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us through it so that we can accomplish God’s will for His glory!

THRIVE
LIVING FOR THE GLORY OF GOD!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. ‘

Proverbs 4:23

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Just For Dads: Be A Positive Christian Role Model – Day 20

Are you ready to talk with God in a direct way? Are you ready to avoid the fluffy stuff and start with straight-talking? Are you ready to speak with and listen to the Holy Spirit to help you get through today? Invite Jesus into your heart! Invite Jesus into your life! Allow Him to create a new heart in you and for you to be born again, becoming a new creation where the old stuff that was holding you back is gone and the new stuff that will help you finish the race called life strong!

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email.

Let’s Pray!

Prayer Of Salvation
"Oh Father God, I believe with all of my heart that Jesus died on the cross for my sake and has risen from the dead. Lord, I receive Your Word and I repent of my sins. I renounce the past. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. I receive my forgiveness. I receive the new birth, cleansed and washed in the Word and in the precious blood of Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit, in Jesus' name. Amen."

THRIVE: Let’s finish strong and map out the road ahead…

Another great week is coming to a close and that doesn’t mean we coast across the finish line but rather that we finish strong and use up that last bit of energy in the tank to ensure we finish strong for the glory of God! Today let’s spend time considering the road ahead and lean in on God to understand His plans so that we can map out the road ahead His way for His purpose and His glory!

Remember how to be able to see the road even if or when it gets dark?

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Psalm 119:105

Remember who is available to lead and guide you?

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

John 16:13

So let’s not try to go it alone or in our own strength for we know:

but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31

So to close out this week, let’s finish strong, being led by the Spirit, and putting our hope and trust in God who will renew our strength so that we can thrive for the glory of God!

Today’s Verse of the day:

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,

1 Timothy 2:5

Survival Gear for Dads – Day 4

Do you have more in the tank to help you gear down and speed across the finish line? Do you have the Holy Spirit in your heart to be your source to give you the energy and wisdom you need to get across the finish line? Are you putting your hope in God so that in your weakness His strength will be revealed? Is today the day you need to invite Jesus into your heart and be transformed? Is today the day you need to receive the grace God has for you? Is today not just the end and crossing the finish line but the beginning of something new?

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email.

Let’s Pray!

THRIVE: It’s not just for me. You need to know the environment is right.

As I kick off this workweek I realize that THRIVE isn’t just for me but it is also for my family. As I consider what it takes to THRIVE I realize the environment is a key element to being able to grow vigorously, to flourish, and to take new ground regardless of the circumstances. If we think about our lives like we would take care of plants we realize that we need to ensure there is adequate light, let the light of God shine on us, lead us and guide us, purify and strengthen us. If we want to thrive we need adequate water, we need to be so connected to Jesus who gives us the right quality and type of water so that we won’t thirst anymore. If we want to thrive we need to ensure we don’t leak too much or too quickly and as such that we are replenishing things as we know that faith leaks. We need to ensure like the disciples did that we stay filled with the Holy Spirit. Let’s not get drunk on wine but instead, be filled with the Spirit. If we want to thrive we need to ensure we are getting the right quality of food for our mind, body, and spirit. God’s Word is the bread of life and so we need to ensure that we can consume it in order to thrive.

So in order for us to thrive, we need to make sure not only are we filled but that our kids are filled too. You need to “Keep doing the things that make you strong.” You need to “Allow yourself to grieve for what you have lost.” You need to “Be patient with the uncertainty.” You need to “Watch how you rebound and fill in the gaps.” You need to remember “Faith is resistible; learn not to resist, but to receive more.” You need to “Get involved.” You need to “Focus on the positive.” You need to “Have deep water faith in the shallow end.

Are you being challenged and wondering how to respond? You need to “Lean Into the Faith You Have“. You need to “Pray for Strength and Guidance“. You need to “Remain Planted in Good Soil“.

Let’s grab hold of what it says in Luke 8:

‘But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop. ‘

Luke 8:15

Let’s be looking beyond our circumstances in order that we can see God at work and lean on Him for wisdom and guidance for our steps forward. Let’s choose that we will thrive in 2022 and that we will make sure to bring our families and friends along with us by speaking love, faith, and hope into their lives! Let’s choose to be people who build up rather than tear down. Let’s choose to be people who pour love and life into the world God puts around us so that He can receive the praise, the honor, and the glory. Let’s decide that we want to THRIVE for the glory of God! Let’s grab hold of all God’s Word is teaching us through Exodus so that we won’t and don’t lose hope but instead are able to take what we are given and decide and determine what we need to do for God’s purpose and plan to play out in our lives and allow us to THRIVE!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord , and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. ‘

Isaiah 55:6-7

Today’s post from Be The Dads is 10 Challenges Every Dad Must Conquer – Day 5

So where are you at today? What are you facing in your life? Are you wondering where to turn? Are you wondering what to do? Are you ready to turn to God? Are you ready to thrive for the glory of God? Let’s invite Jesus into our situation and allow Him to lead and guide us! Let’s turn to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to fill us to overflowing so that we can live life to the full.

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email or text.

Let’s Pray!

Dear God
I admit I am a sinner and need your forgiveness; I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place paying the penalty for my sins. I am willing right now to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord. I commit myself to you and ask you to send the Holy Spirit into my life, to fill me and take control, and to help me become the kind of person you want me to be. Thank You Father for loving me. In Jesus' name.
Amen.

Let’s Read the Bible Together (February)

What would you do or How would you choose to live your life if you had someone with all the answers available?

So imagine this, you have someone in your life who is able to give you the right advice for every situation. What would you do? Would you reach out regularly to make sure you make the right decision? Would you try to go it on your own and use them as a fallback? Would you only turn to them for advice when you got to the end of your rope? Would you only turn to them when you were in trouble?

So imagine this, you have someone in your life who is able and willing to give you the right advice for every situation. How would you choose to live your life? Would you choose to stay in close and regular contact with them? Would you look to build a strong and intimate relationship with them? Would you be in constant contact and connection with them to ensure you are making the right choices? Would you be their friend or would you treat them more like a genie to rescue you in tough or trying times? Would you be their friend where you share everything with them because you know they love you so much that they are ready and willing to share with you? Would you only reach out when you are in trouble? Would you only turn to them when you couldn’t figure it out on your own? Would you try to be self-reliant rather than joining forces with them?

So you have a guidance counselor. Remember back in school they had people with that title? Did you ever go see them? Did you ever ask them for advice? Did you ever make a routine of it? I don’t remember going to see my high school guidance counselor more than a couple times in all my years of high school. I don’t remember going to see my university guidance counselor more than a couple times in all my years of university and co-op. I remember hearing of friends who did but that wasn’t my way. As I consider their roles and responsibilities and today’s theme, I wonder if anything would have been different in the decisions I made over all those years had I used them for the purpose and availability they had.

Guidance counselors:

Looking up guidance counselors you find information like:

Guidance Counselors are professionals who work in schools or other educational institutions providing academic, personal and career advice to students. They work to examine and assess any potential or skills students may have and communicate this to them to help boost their self-esteem and wellbeing. Guidance Counselors typically conduct either group or individual counseling sessions with students to learn about any social or academic challenges the student is facing and provide advice to help them succeed at school or in their personal lives.  As they speak with students during each session, the Guidance Counselor identifies any behavioral problem and societal or cultural issues that may be negatively impacting the child’s personal or social life.

Looking up skills and qualifications for a guidance counselor I found:

Considering how much is expected of a Guidance Counselor, there are extensive skills and qualifications candidates need. While there are many interpersonal and academic skills required that may be different depending on the school or district, the following skills and qualifications are the most important to consider when crafting an effective job description:

So knowing their roles and responsibilities, does that change the thought about how you would interact with them? So knowing their skills and qualifications, does that change the thought about how you would interact with them?

So if you had someone who is able to give you the right advice for every situation, what would you do? So if you had someone who is able to give you the right advice for every situation, how would you choose to live your life?

THE ONE YEAR DAILY INSIGHTS
WITH ZIG ZIGLAR AND DR. IKE REIGHARD
FOR DECEMBER 15TH

The World’s Best Guidance Counselor

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. ‘

John 16:13

Knowing this, does it make you consider how you might want to connect and stay connected with the Holy Spirit throughout the day rather than every now and then? Let’s look for more context and details using the Amplified version and some surrounding text.

‘ “But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts [and taken complete possession of them]. But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. And He, when He comes, will convict the world about [the guilt of] sin [and the need for a Savior], and about righteousness, and about judgment: about sin [and the true nature of it], because they do not believe in Me [and My message]; about righteousness [personal integrity and godly character], because I am going to My Father and you will no longer see Me; about judgment [the certainty of it], because the ruler of this world (Satan) has been judged and condemned. “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear [to hear] them now. But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future]. He will glorify and honor Me, because He (the Holy Spirit) will take from what is Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Because of this I said that He [the Spirit] will take from what is Mine and will reveal it to you. ‘

John 16:5-15

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Some interesting questions come as today’s devotional starts like:
    • “If you had immediate and continuous access to the brightest mind in your field, would you use that resource?”
    • “Would you call that person to ask for insight serveral times a day, or would you think, No, I’d better just call once a week for about five minutes; that’s enough?”
  • Would it matter if they were the brightest mind and also had the biggest and most loving heart?
  • Would knowing how much they love you change how you would decide to interact with them?
  • The fact, the reality, the truth is that the brightest mind and most loving heart in the universe s on call 24/7 for every believer. So how will you respond? choose? decide?
  • Today’s verse we learn how Jesus tells us that the Holy Spirit is the “Spirit of truth”.
  • The Holy Spirit is who directed the writers of the Bible.
  • The Holy Spirit is who directed the writers to capture what was going on in their moment in time so that we would have this information available to us today.
  • The Holy Spirit knows it all and is available all the time to help us with our decisions.
  • The Holy Spirit came when Jesus returned to sit at the right hand of the Father to be our comforter and our guide.
  • We are still not alone because God is with us. So knowing He is with you, does that change your thoughts about inviting Him into every situation? Does it change your thoughts about seeking His advice?
  • Are you ready to apply God’s truth into every situation by inviting and talking through your situation with the Holy Spirit?
  • There is no better guidance counselor than the Holy Spirit!
  • Do you value the Holy Spirit?
  • Do you pursue the Holy Spirit?
  • Do you ask Him questions throughout your day?
  • Do you wait on Him to provide you with answers?
  • Are you too busy to pursue?
  • Are you too busy to ask?
  • Are you too busy to wait?
  • If you had one of the greatest minds offer to give you a day to answer all the questions on his topic wouldn’t you prepare and get ready in order to make the most of that day? Wouldn’t you then look to absorb as much as you possibly could in that day?
  • What if it was Warren Buffet offering you advice on investing?
  • What if it was Elon Musk offering you advice on inovating?
  • What if it was the CEO of a company? What if it was a leader of one of the world’s most powerful countries?
  • As you consider those situations, will you consider leaning in and asking of the Holy Spirit and getting His advice througout your day? week? month? year? life?
  • He is available 24/7/365(6 for leap years) a year. We have access to God through the Holy Spirit and it is up to us to decide if we will receive, accept, use this access to build a stronger relationship with God and live a life that will bring God praise, honor, and glory!
  • So will you prepare your heart and value Him?
  • Will you prepare the questions to be able to get to the root of the issues?
  • Will you wait and listen intently as He provides you with the wisdom and discernment?
  • Will you listen to the scriptures He brings to mind to help us understand what is going on?
  • Will you get quiet enough to hear the still quiet voice?
  • Will you be obeident to His prompting and answers?
  • Are you ready to become wise by valuing and listening to the Holy Spirit?
  • Are you wanting to risk the consequences of not valuing and not listening?

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • Do you treat the Holy Spirit like you’d treat the best mind in your field? Explain your answer.
  • How can you value Him more? What difference will it make?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him, and expect help from Him, He will never fail you.”

― George Müller

As we continue through December we have finished the readings of the Tanakh and I thank Sefaria for their resources in helping me to see the Old Testament in a new way and my friend Lionel for having shared this tool with me. As we kicked off December the idea my wife brought up came to mind about going through the book of Luke (who was a doctor) which happens to have 24 chapters so that we can read one a day and complete it in time for Christmas. To get as many details from this I am going to use the Amplified version to try and grasp all the details Luke gives us to consider and learn.

So today we will read Luke 15:

‘Now all the tax collectors and sinners [including non-observant Jews] were coming near Jesus to listen to Him. Both the Pharisees and the scribes began muttering and complaining, saying, “This man accepts and welcomes sinners and eats with them.” So He told them this parable: “What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one which is lost, [searching] until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he gets home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep!’ I tell you, in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.

“Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins [each one equal to a day’s wages] and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her [women] friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, because I found the lost coin!’ In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents [that is, changes his inner self—his old way of thinking, regrets past sins, lives his life in a way that proves repentance; and seeks God’s purpose for his life].”

Then He said, “A certain man had two sons. The younger of them [inappropriately] said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the property that falls to me.’ So he divided the estate between them. A few days later, the younger son gathered together everything [that he had] and traveled to a distant country, and there he wasted his fortune in reckless and immoral living. Now when he had spent everything, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began to do without and be in need. So he went and forced himself on one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. He would have gladly eaten the [carob] pods that the pigs were eating [but they could not satisfy his hunger], and no one was giving anything to him. But when he [finally] came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have more than enough food, while I am dying here of hunger! I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; [just] treat me like one of your hired men.” ’ So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe [for the guest of honor] and put it on him; and give him a ring for his hand, and sandals for his feet. And bring the fattened calf and slaughter it, and let us [invite everyone and] feast and celebrate; for this son of mine was [as good as] dead and is alive again; he was lost and has been found.’ So they began to celebrate. “Now his older son was in the field; and when he returned and approached the house, he heard music and dancing. So he summoned one of the servants and began asking what this [celebration] meant. And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has received him back safe and sound.’ But the elder brother became angry and deeply resentful and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him. But he said to his father, ‘Look! These many years I have served you, and I have never neglected or disobeyed your command. Yet you have never given me [so much as] a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends; but when this [other] son of yours arrived, who has devoured your estate with immoral women, you slaughtered that fattened calf for him!’ The father said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. But it was fitting to celebrate and rejoice, for this brother of yours was [as good as] dead and has begun to live. He was lost and has been found.’ ”’

Luke 15:1-32

So where are you at today? Are you trying to go it alone or are you inviting God into your situation? Are you trying to push through it alone or are you inviting God into the situation? Are you trying to figure it out on your own or are you inviting God into the situation? Why not invite Jesus into your heart? Why not be in constant conversation with the Holy Spirit? Why not live out the rest of your life differently and better than the past in a way that will bring God all the praise, the honor, and the glory? Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father
I come to you in prayer asking for the
forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my
mouth and believe with my heart that
Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the
Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven.
and have Eternal Life in the Kingdom of
Heaven. Father, I believe that Jesus rose
from the dead and I ask you right now to
come in to my life and be my personal
Lord and Savior. I repent of my Sins and
will Worship you all the day's of my Life!
Because your word is truth, I confess with
my mouth that I am Born Again and
Cleansed by the Blood of Jesus! In Jesus
Name, Amen

How do you know if you are doing it right?

Are you using visuals? Are you using a manual? Are you interpreting it right? Is there anything that might be distorting your view? Is there anything that might be putting things off course? Ever heard stories about how people were off track by a fraction of a fraction at the beginning but the further along they got the more off track they ended up? So how do you know if you are doing it right?

Do you have a source of truth? Do you have a guide to help you? Do you have someone to lead you? Do you have something that can direct and correct you (like the Bible)? If you don’t then how do you know if you are doing it right?

Watch Out for Warped Worship

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘“You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.’

Exodus 20:4-6

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Do you realize all the visual stimulation that takes place today?
  • Do you absorb it through tv? movies? the internet?
  • Do you absorb it at home? at work? at school? somewhere in between?
  • Do those images or visuals teach you things?
  • What do you learn from them?
  • What do they say about what you are seeing?
  • Are you using yours eyes for good?
  • Are the ways or the things you are allowing to be seen by your eyes helping or hindering you?
  • Are they enhancing your view of God or are they distorting and diminishing your view of God?
  • Do you realize that it is possible for images to “dishonor God” and “mislead men” as is shared by J.I. Packer in his book Knowing God?
  • Have you ever considered how pictures have formed or distorted your views? What comes to mind when you think of the devil? Is it a little guy in a red suit with a forked tail and pitch fork? What comes to mind when you think of God? Is it an old guy with a white beard and a robe?
  • What has formed your view of God?
  • Do you allow art like images, statues, paintings, and other things to represent God?
  • Do you realize the impact of allowing this to happen?
  • Do you realize that God is so incredible that it is impossible for man’s abilities to represent the fullness and greatness of God?
  • How do you know what is right?
  • How do you know where to draw the line?
  • How do you know what is good enough to use to help others hear or learn about Jesus?
  • How do you know what art is good enough to depict the reality of Jesus’s life events?
  • Would you say you draw the line when it replaces the wonder and awe of God from His infinite greatness?
  • Would you say you draw the line when it limits God from His infinite greatness?

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • What are some depictions of God you’ve seen in popular culture?
  • In what ways do they accurately represent God, and in what ways do they distort our views of Him?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you at today? Are you pursuing the truth? Are you able to determine the difference between right and wrong? Are your views accurate or are they being distorted by the world? Are you ready to turn to God and receive His gift of grace through Jesus? Is today your day to reset and get back on track? Is today the day you decide to start the journey to get back on track? Let’s pray:

How clear of a message do you need to move forward?

When you receive a call, how clear does it need to be? When you receive a call, how direct does it have to be? When you receive a call, how forceful does it need to be? I remember the call to step into leadership in my community and that still quiet voice was enough for me to obey. I remember the call to step up into the top position and resisting and pushing back out of doubt, fear, feeling unqualified and requiring a forceful ultimatum for me to accept it and obey. I remember the call to step out and start looking for a new role as 19 years in the same company approached and how that night when I got home I obeyed, updating my resume and LinkedIn profile and applying for jobs. I remember the year when the 3Ds happened and how the confirmation of the Holy Spirit was enough for me to accept those roles at work, at camp, and at church. God has always been in control and the experiences He has given me to show His faithfulness through His callings in my life. As His Word shows and tells us, be it with Esther who was called to step up and step out, Mordecai tells her that if she wouldn’t do it that God would have accomplished His plans and purpose through someone else. As His Word shows and tells us, be it when the Pharisees were telling Jesus to stop the people from calling out and Jesus’ response was to tell them that if they stopped the rocks would cry out.

Even as I reflect on all of these things and even selected which links to use for the stories above, the quote that comes to mind as I reflect and consider how incredible and how faithful God is the reality of God without man is still God but man without God is nothing sticks with me.

What will it take for you to hear from God and respond? What type of a call does it need to be for you to respond out of obedience? Will your response be out of faith in God or fear of man? Will your response be out of trust in God or worry of your own abilities? Nothing is too big for God! Nothing is impossible with God! What may seem impossible to man is possible with God!

So when the call comes, will you answer it and accomplish all God has in planned and purposed for your life?

God's calling... Will you answer?
Ring…Ring… will you pick up? Answer the call!

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY: Psalms 67:4

‘Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, And govern the nations on earth. Selah’

The AMPC translation says it like this:

‘ O let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for You will judge the peoples fairly and guide, lead, or drive the nations upon earth. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!’

Psalm 67:4

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Have you seen God’s hand moving clearly and powerfully in your life?
  • Have you seen God’s hand moving clearly and powerfully in history?

  • Have you seen God’s hand moving clearly and powerfully in days of deliberation?
  • Have you wondered where God is when you reflect on some times in history when things seem so dark and so hard?
  • Have you wondered where God is when you reflect on some times in history when scandals or actions start to chip away at values?
  • Have you wondered where God is when you reflect on some times in history when things seem to be out of control?
  • Consider God’s purposes and plans and how He can take what the enemy meant for evil and turn it around and use it for good and for His purposes!
  • Consider both in the Bible stories of the past how God was able to use the bad times and the good times for His purposes and remember that when you consider the times post the timeline in the Bible and how God is still able to use it for good and to accomplish His purposes.
  • Remember that in the end times those who fought against Him, turned away from Him, or never accepted Him will be judged by God.
  • Let’s take hold of the reality that God is in control!

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.”

John Quincy Adams

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

Where does your guidance come from? Are you aware of and looking for heavenly guidance from God? Are you noticing His hand at work in and through your life and the lives of others?

Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the
Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven.
and have Eternal Life in the Kingdom of

What’s leading or directing your decisions?

Faced with a decision to make, what is guiding you? Faced with decision to make, what is directing your path? Faced with decision to make, who or what are you following?

How about at work when options come before you? How about in your country when it comes to picking leadership during the elections? How about in your community when you need to choose where and when and if to get involved?

Is it based on peer pressure? Is it based on group decision? Is it based on a gut feel? Is it based on analyzing all the data? Is it based on alignment to God’s way and will?

Imagine how things would be different if everyone put God in the center of all of their lives! Imagine Jesus being the center for every decision and hence being lead by the Holy Spirit in every decision you make!

Let’s stop focusing on the thing and start focusing on the creator! Let’s stop focusing on the created and start focusing on the creator! Let’s stop focusing on rituations and start focusing on having a relationship with God!

Today’s reading kicks off in this line in Hosea…

Idols Thrown Down

1“Put a shofar to your mouth! Like a vulture he comes against the house of Adonai. For they overstepped My covenant and transgressed My Torah. 2 Will they cry out to Me, ‘My God, we—Israel—knew You’? 3Israel has rejected goodness— an adversary will pursue him. 4They crowned kings, but not by Me. They appointed princes I did not approve. Their silver and gold they made into idols— just so they would be cut down. 5Samaria! Your calf is thrown down! My anger is kindled against them! How long will they be incapable of innocence? 6For a craftsman from Israel made it, so it is no god. For the calf of Samaria will be splinters. 7“For they sow wind, and reap a whirlwind. There is no mature grain— the sprout yields no meal. Should it produce anything, strangers would swallow it up. 8Israel has been swallowed up! Now they are among the nations, like an ornament with no delight in it. 9For they have gone up to Assyria, like a wild donkey alone by itself. Ephraim has hired lovers. 10Although they hire among the nations, I will now round them up. So they will begin to decrease under the burden of king and princes. 11“When Ephraim multiplied altars for making sin offerings, they became his altars for sinning. 12Though I were to write out for him ten thousand things from My Torah, they are regarded as something strange. 13Sacrifices are gifts for Me— should they sacrifice meat and then eat it? Adonai will not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sin— they will return to Egypt. 14For Israel has forgotten his Maker and built temples, while Judah has multiplied fortified cities. So I will send fire upon its cities that will consume their citadels.”

–from Hosea 8

How far away can you get before you get into trouble? How far from under the protective cover can you get before you get hurt? How far will you wander before you turn back?

Days of Desolation Are Coming

1Do not rejoice, O Israel, do not celebrate like the peoples— for so you have gone whoring away from your God. You have loved a prostitute’s pay, on every grain-threshing-floor. 2Threshing-floor and wine-press will not sustain them, and new wine will fail her. 3They will not dwell in Adonai’s land. Instead Ephraim will return to Egypt, and eat unclean food in Assyria. 4They will pour no wine-offerings to Adonai— they would not be pleasing to Him. Their sacrifices will be like the bread of mourners for them. All that eat it will be defiled, for their bread is for their appetite, not coming into the House of Adonai. 5What will you do for a moed or for the day of Adonai’s feast? 6Look, even if they escape the desolation, Egypt will gather them up; Memphis will bury them. And their precious silver treasures? Weeds will possess them. Thorns will be in their tents. 7The days of punishment have come; the days of retribution have come. Let Israel know! The prophet is a fool; the man of the spirit is mad! For great is your iniquity and great the hostility. 8Ephraim is a watchman with my God, a prophet. A bird catcher’s trap is on all his paths. Hostility is in the House of his God. 9They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their iniquity, He will punish their sin. 10“Like grapes in the wilderness I found Israel. Like early fruit on a fig tree in its first season I saw your fathers. They came to Baal-peor and devoted themselves to shame. So they became as detestable as the thing they loved. 11Ephraim’s glory flies away like a bird— no birth, no pregnancy, no conception! 12For if they should raise their children, I would make them childless to the last man. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them! 13Ephraim, as I have seen, is like Tyre, planted in a meadow, but Ephraim will bring his children out to the slayer.” 14Give them, Adonai, what will You give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dried up breasts. 15“All their wickedness is at Gilgal, for there I despised them. Because of their wicked practices, I will drive them out of My House. I will love them no more. All their princes are rebellious. 16Ephraim is blighted; their root is withered; they bear no fruit. Even if they bring forth children, I will slay the cherished ones in their wombs.” 17My God will cast them off, since they did not listen to Him. So they will become wanderers among the nations.

–from Hosea 9

What is going to take to bring you back into alignment with God? Will you need to see something? Will you need to hear something? Will you need to feel something? Will you smell or sense something? What would need to happen to really get your attention?

Will you change the way you are living? Will you set an ethic to follow? Will you look to live righteously? Will you look to live a covenant of love? Will you soften your heart to the things and ways of God? Will you humble yourself and give your life up to God?

What will you sow? What will that cause you to reap?

Israel to be Shamed in Captivity

1A luxuriant vine is Israel, who produces fruit for himself. Like the abundance of his fruit he has multiplied his altars. Like the goodness of his land, they made beautiful sacred pillars. 2Their heart became smooth. Now they will bear their guilt. He will break down their altars. He will destroy their sacred pillars. 3Surely now they will say: “We have no king, for we have not feared Adonai. The king—what can he do for us?” 4They spoke words— empty oaths to make a covenant. But judgment springs up as hemlock in the furrows of the field. 5The inhabitants of Samaria will quarrel over the calves of Beth-aven. Indeed its people will mourn over it, but its priests will tremble over it. For its glory will surely depart from it. 6It also will be carried to Assyria as tribute to a warring king. Ephraim will receive shame and Israel will be put to shame by its own counsel. 7Samaria is being cut off. Her king is like a splinter on the surface of the water. 8The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel will be destroyed. Thorns and thistles will come up on their altars. And they will say to the mountains: “Cover us!” And to the hills: “Fall on us!” 9“From the days of Gibeah, you have sinned, O Israel. There they took their stand. Will not war over sons of iniquity overtake them in Gibeah? 10When I desire, I will chasten them, and peoples will gather against them when they are yoked to their two sins. 11Though Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh, I put a yoke over her fair neck. I will make Ephraim pull; Judah will plow; Jacob will drag a harrow by himself.”

Plow Up Your Ground

12Sow for yourselves righteousness. Reap in accord with covenant love. Break up your unplowed ground. For it is time to seek Adonai, until He comes and showers righteousness on you. 13You have plowed up wickedness, you have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of delusion, for you have trusted in your own way, in the multitude of your mighty men. 14A tumult will arise among your people. All your strongholds will be demolished, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel in the day of battle, when a mother was dashed in pieces with her children. 15Just so has Bethel done to you because of your great wickedness. At dawn the king of Israel will be utterly cut off.

–from Hosea 10

What’s it going to take for God to get your attention? Do you realize what He has already done for you? Do you realize how much Jesus did? Do you realize what is at hand? Do you realize what is available? Do you realize it’s a choice we each have to make individually? So choose wisely! Choose to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior and to follow Him all the rest of your life!

My Son Called Out

1“When Israel was a youth I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son. 2They called out to them but they departed from their presence. They kept sacrificing to the Baalim and burning incense up to idols. 3Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk. I took them on My arms. But they never acknowledged that I had healed them. 4With human cords I was drawing them, with bonds of love, and I became to them as One lifting a yoke from their jaws. I bent down to them and fed them. 5He will not return to the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian will be his king— because they refused to return. 6So a sword will fall on his cities, and destroy and devour his gate bars because of their own counsels. 7So My people are bent on turning from Me. Although they are being called upwards, none will rise up. 8“How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I surrender you, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I set you as Zeboim? My heart is turning over within Me. My compassions are kindled. 9 I will not vent My fierce anger. I will not again destroy Ephraim. For I am God—not a man— the Holy One in the midst of you, and I will not come in fury.” 10They will walk after Adonai. He will roar like a lion. Indeed, He will roar and the children will come trembling from the west. 11“They will come trembling like a bird out of Egypt, like a dove out of the land of Assyria, and I will settle them in their houses.” It is a declaration of Adonai.

–from Hosea 11

Make your choice fast! Make your choice soon! Don’t wait till it is too late! Take a look around and see the signs of the season! Every year when I go through the Bible, I feel like we are getting closer based on what is taking place in the world!

Signs of the End

1As Yeshua was going out of the Temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, look! What stones and what buildings!” 2Yeshua said to him, “You see these great buildings? Not one stone here will be left upon another. Every one will be torn down!” 3As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the Temple, Peter, Jacob, John, and Andrew were questioning Him privately, 4“Tell us, when will these things happen? What will be the sign that all these things are about to be accomplished?” 5Yeshua began to tell them, “Watch out that no one leads you astray! 6Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and they will lead many astray. 7When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed, for this must happen but it is not yet the end. 8For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines. These things are only the beginning of birth pains. 9“Watch out for yourselves! They will hand you over to the courts, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings because of Me, as a witness to them. 10The Good News must first be proclaimed to all the nations. 11When they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Say whatever is given to you in that hour, for it is not you who speaks but the Ruach ha-Kodesh. 12Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. And children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. 13And you will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end will be saved.”

Birth Pangs Before Deliverance

14“But when you see ‘the abomination of desolation’ standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then those in Judea must flee to the mountains. 15The one on the roof must not go down, nor enter to take anything out of his house. 16And the one in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. 17Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 18Pray that it will not happen in winter. 19“For in those days there will be trouble such as has never happened, not since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will. 20And unless Adonai had cut short those days, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He cut short the days. 21“And then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here’s the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there He is!’ do not believe it. 22For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and show signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, the chosen. 23So be careful! See, I have told you everything beforehand.”

Messianic Victory

24“But in those days, after that trouble, ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.’ 26And then they will see ‘the Son of Man coming in clouds’ with great power and glory. 27Then He will send out the angels and will gather together His chosen from the four winds, from the end of the earth, to the end of heaven.”

Keep Watch

28“Now learn the parable from the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 29So also, when you see all these things happening, know that it is near, at the door. 30Amen, I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things happen. 31Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. 32But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven nor the Son, except the Father. 33“Keep on the lookout! Stay alert! For you do not know when the time is. 34It is like a man away on a journey. After leaving his house and putting his servants in charge and giving each his task, he also commanded the doorkeeper to watch. 35Therefore stay alert, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or in the early morning. 36So watch in case, coming suddenly, he finds you asleep. 37What I say to you I say to all: ‘Stay alert!’”

–from Mark 13

Do you use the map and have a guide? This life can be challenging and even tricky at times.

Psalm 48:14

14  For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide [even] until death.

We often pray for God’s guidance as we struggle with decisions. What we need is both guidance and a guide-a map that gives us landmarks and directions as well as a constant companion who has an intimate knowledge of the way and will make sure we interpret the map correctly. The Bible will be such a map, and the Holy Spirit will be the constant companion and guide. As you make your way through life, use both the map and your Guide.

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this new day and all that is within it. I lift up this day and the plans into Your hands that You may receive praise and honor and glory. I thank You Lord that You stick closer to me than a brother. I thank You Lord that as I walk through this journey, I am not only walking towards the next great plan You have for me, I am also walking through it daily with You. I am so thankful for that as You have spoken to me through Your Word daily, You have spoken to me through song and worship as I have questions, and You have guided me through the prompting and the still small voice of the Holy Spirit as I have questions, concerns, or am looking for wisdom and guidance. Lord, I pray for those around me, those who know the story of what I am going through and those who are being challenged right now with their current circumstances and need to draw closer to You. I pray for those who know You and are seeking wisdom and ask Lord that You provide them with wisdom and discernment through Your Holy Spirit. Help each of us Lord draw closer to You so that we will not drive off the road, but will stay on the path You have for us and that will help build our character while bringing You praise and honor and glory. God, I love You and that You have allowed me to share the story of what is going on in my life with many people so that when we get to the “TADA!” moment, they will know it wasn’t me, and be drawn to You for their lives and their circumstances and their questions and their … Lord, may the Holy Spirit bring great revelation to us Lord. May the week of Spiritual Emphasis at church that is coming up in March be one where not only will I find clarity and get closer to the realization of Your plan, but Lord that many people as the first one of these weeks impacted my life will be transformed. Lord, that lights will be turned on in their lives and they will start to see things they didn’t even know were there – helping them or hindering them – so that they will be able to grab onto for support or get rid of and find freedom. Lord, I thank You in advance for all that You are doing and give You the praise, the honor, and the glory, in the name of the Father, the Son (my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit (my comforter and guide). Amen.

Psalm 42

1  AS THE hart [a male deer, especially a male red deer over five years of age] pants and longs for the water brooks, so I pant and long for You, O God.2  My inner self thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God? 3  My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, Where is your God?4  These things I [earnestly] remember and pour myself out within me: how I went slowly before the throng and led them in procession to the house of God [like a bandmaster before his band, timing the steps to the sound of music and the chant of song], with the voice of shouting and praise, a throng keeping festival.5  Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, my Help and my God.6  O my God, my life is cast down upon me [and I find the burden more than I can bear]; therefore will I [earnestly] remember You from the land of the Jordan [River] and the [summits of Mount] Hermon, from the little mountain Mizar.7  [Roaring] deep calls to [roaring] deep at the thunder of Your waterspouts; all Your breakers and Your rolling waves have gone over me.8  Yet the Lord will command His loving-kindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me, a prayer to the God of my life.9  I will say to God my Rock, Why have You forgotten me? Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?10  As with a sword [crushing] in my bones, my enemies taunt and reproach me, while they say continually to me, Where is your God?11  Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my countenance, and my God.

Proverbs 11

1  A FALSE balance and unrighteous dealings are extremely offensive and shamefully sinful to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight. 2  When swelling and pride come, then emptiness and shame come also, but with the humble (those who are lowly, who have been pruned or chiseled by trial, and renounce self) are skillful and godly Wisdom and soundness.3  The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the willful contrariness and crookedness of the treacherous shall destroy them.4  Riches provide no security in any day of wrath and judgment, but righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God) delivers from death. 5  The righteousness of the blameless shall rectify and make plain their way and keep it straight, but the wicked shall fall by their own wickedness.6  The righteousness of the upright [their rectitude in every area and relation] shall deliver them, but the treacherous shall be taken in their own iniquity and greedy desire.7  When the wicked man dies, his hope [for the future] perishes; and the expectation of the godless comes to nothing.8  The [uncompromisingly] righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked gets into it instead.9  With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge and superior discernment shall the righteous be delivered.10  When it goes well with the [uncompromisingly] righteous, the city rejoices, but when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.11  By the blessing of the influence of the upright and God’s favor [because of them] the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.12  He who belittles and despises his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding keeps silent.13  He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy and faithful in spirit keeps the matter hidden.14  Where no wise guidance is, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.15  He who becomes security for an outsider shall smart for it, but he who hates suretyship is secure [from its penalties].16  A gracious and good woman wins honor [for her husband], and violent men win riches but a woman who hates righteousness is a throne of dishonor for him .17  The merciful, kind, and generous man benefits himself [for his deeds return to bless him], but he who is cruel and callous [to the wants of others] brings on himself retribution.18  The wicked man earns deceitful wages, but he who sows righteousness (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation) shall have a sure reward [permanent and satisfying]. 19  He who is steadfast in righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God) attains to life, but he who pursues evil does it to his own death.20  They who are willfully contrary in heart are extremely disgusting and shamefully vile in the eyes of the Lord, but such as are blameless and wholehearted in their ways are His delight!21  Assuredly [I pledge it] the wicked shall not go unpunished, but the multitude of the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall be delivered.22  As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman who is without discretion.23  The desire of the [consistently] righteous brings only good, but the expectation of the wicked brings wrath.24  There are those who [generously] scatter abroad, and yet increase more; there are those who withhold more than is fitting or what is justly due, but it results only in want.25  The liberal person shall be enriched, and he who waters shall himself be watered. 26  The people curse him who holds back grain [when the public needs it], but a blessing [from God and man] is upon the head of him who sells it.27  He who diligently seeks good seeks [God’s] favor, but he who searches after evil, it shall come upon him.28  He who leans on, trusts in, and is confident in his riches shall fall, but the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall flourish like a green bough.29  He who troubles his own house shall inherit the wind, and the foolish shall be servant to the wise of heart.30  The fruit of the [uncompromisingly] righteous is a tree of life, and he who is wise captures human lives [for God, as a fisher of men–he gathers and receives them for eternity]. 31  Behold, the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall be recompensed on earth; how much more the wicked and the sinner! And if the righteous are barely saved, what will become of the ungodly and wicked?
