THRIVE: What are you doing? Why are you doing it?

As the week kicks off I reflect on a question/comment I made last night at my daughter’s baccalaureate when I said “God’s Word tells us to be ready in and out of season to give a reason” and was going to ask my daughter’s friend’s boyfriend a question. It didn’t happen but God’s Word is so true and so powerful and so right!

Are you ready to give an answer to the question someone could ask you? Are you ready to give an answer to why you have so much hope? Are you ready to give an answer for what you are doing? Are you ready to give an answer to why you are doing it? Are you ready to express that God is leading and guiding you into what you are to be doing? Are you ready to express that Jesus is the reason why you are doing it?

Let’s pause for a moment and consider what Paul says in 2 Timothy 4:2:

Let’s consider what we hear from Peter in 1 Peter 3:15-16:

So as we begin our week, let’s get prepared, let’s be prepared, and let’s live our lives to glorify God!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ‘

Will you make a list of things you need to or want to do or get done? What will things look like as your kids grow up? What will you things like in 5 years, 10years, and beyond? Is there anything you wanted to do that haven’t yet? Is there anything your wife wants to do that we haven’t done yet? If we want to thrive for the glory of God we have to be prepared!

THRIVE: How will you capture and present what you have discovered?

A week and a half in with lots of meetings and introductions, what have you captured, learned, and absorbed? A week and a half in with excitement and relationship building, what have you captured, learned, and absorbed? How will you transfer inputs and produce outputs that will help you to validate what you learned and thrive? How will you take what the Holy Spirit has provided you and present it in a way that will bring God the praise, the honor, and the glory? What is all on your plate? What have you received? What are you still in need of? What have you found? What have you created? Who have you met? Who have you helped? Let’s make sure we have a way to present what we have learned and captured! Let’s make sure we have a way to take what we have learned and help others come up to speed! Let’s be salt and light in this world that contacts others and blesses them through the Holy Spirit! Let’s make today count! Let’s choose to thrive today for the glory of God!

Verse of the Day:

‘Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. ‘

James 1:2-3

I wanted to expand on today’s verse of the day to make sure we include verse 4 where it says:

‘Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. ‘

James 1:4

So we can all have a HAPPY TODAY because we know that when we allow perseverance to finish its work we will be mature, complete, and lacking nothing! We can all have a HAPPY TODAY no matter what because we know that when we face trials of many kinds they test our faith which produces perseverance! So let’s turn our eyes to Jesus rather than focusing on the trials and troubles because we know that we can consider it pure joy when we face trials and we can take heart when we face troubles!

THRIVE: Be prepared and ready to learn…

What an incredible first day yesterday was. What incredible people I had the opportunity to meet with and hear from. What energy, excitement, passion, and promise I could feel joining the team. I am ready to learn. I am prepared to do my part. I am excited to see what God has in store for me and for all those He brings into my life through this new experience. The getting started stuff I was able to get most of that paperwork done beforehand but finished the last couple yesterday and then hit the ground running.

As I begin chapter 3 of my journey with both the first two chapters finishing with a sign that allowed me to transition out quickly and into the next chapter just as fast, I realize the importance of putting God’s will first! Stay as long as He wants you to stay and when He says to go, then prepare to go wherever it is that He is calling you to go! I realize the importance of obedience to the prompting as I remember how back in my MS days I received the prompting to go but I kept responding with how much I liked the people and was so comfortable in the role, and now I realize the reason He was trying to protect me from what was coming down the pipe and because I didn’t listen I ended up going through some pretty painful reorgs and challenges. I remember how important it is to listen to the still quiet voice when God is prompting you to do something rather than looking for reasons or excuses why you couldn’t, shouldn’t, or wouldn’t obey Him during my time on an HOA for about ten thousand plus people and it taking an audible, booming, ultimatum to get my attention and for me to take it seriously. So if and when God gives you a sign like “get out of the boat” or “it’s time to move” or “an offer”, it’s time to get moving and moving forward for the glory of God so that you can thrive in all that He has planned and purposed to do in and through your life. Especially if it comes to you as a command from God.

Verse of the Day:

‘ “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. ‘

John 13:34

Today’s post from Be The Dads is The Heart Of The Father – Day 4

This is the day that the Lord has made so let’s rejoice and be glad in it! Let’s get up and get ready! Let’s get up and be prepared! Let’s be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and then walk out today in alignment with God’s purpose, plan, and will! Let’s invite Jesus into our situations. Let’s invite Jesus into our hearts and lives! Let’s choose to accept the gift of grace that opens the door into eternity with God!

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email or text.

Let’s Pray!

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven. At this moment I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Father, I take you at your word. I thank you that I can face death now that you are my Savior. Thank you for the assurance that you will walk with me through the deep valley. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

THRIVE: Don’t miss it!

It’s Sunday morning, there is a mix of snow and rain out there and yet there are things to do today. There are things to consider. There are things to observe. There are things to know. Don’t miss it!

Are you ready? Are you watching? Are you paying attention? Don’t miss it!

What will it be? How will it happen? Who is involved? Where will it be? When will it be? Don’t miss it!

Were you waiting for it? Were you expecting it? Were you asking for it? Were you wondering about it? Were you ready when the sign showed up? Were you wondering if it was the sign? Were you ready with ways to confirm and affirm it?

What if it were to happen for you this week as it happened for me a few weeks ago?

Don’t Miss It!

Last night I was able to catch the weekend service at Eastridge Church for Palm Sunday weekend. Pastor Larry shared the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem from Matthew 21. He titled it “Don’t miss it!” and yet an alternative title might have been “Donkey talk!”. Some key takeaways I had from the sermon were:

  • In all the gospels the end of the story seems to slow down in order to allow us to savor that time as it emphasized what was taking place.
  • Jesus was preparing and prepared as we see when He sends the guys to go and get him a colt.
  • As He is entering into Jerusalem in verses 6-9, the Passover celebration was underway and so there were 250K-1M people in the area, we see the connection to Psalm 118 as people are crying out Hosanna, Son of David, there were people going before Him laying coats and palm branches on the ground and there were locals who were following Him from behind, affecting the entire city and causing people to question “who is this?”
  • We learned about how Jesus later was overlooking the city and was weeping for the city as He knew the Hosannas of the one day would turn into the “crucify Him” the next.
  • We see how the central theme of Matthew’s writing is “Who is this person Jesus?”
  • They missed it and we shouldn’t!
  • The donkey!
  • Jesus planned the moment for a particular purpose that they would notice.
    • ‘“Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ” The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. ‘ Matthew 21:5-6
  • Jesus wanted to make a public declaration of His mission and character!
    • Humble and loving
    • Came to deliver and save
  • Let’s grab hold of 3 practical things we can learn from this:
    1. Pray that the Lord would prepare the hearts of people who don’t know Jesus that you know.
    2. Let’s invite and invest in people to have them come to church for the celebration of Easter!
    3. Let’s celebrate Easter for all that it is and what it has produced and provided for us!

‘As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ” The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.” ‘

Matthew 21:1-11

Verse of the Day:

‘“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” ‘

THRIVE: Need to get ready…

Some may take time between changes. Some may take a pause before stepping into the next thing. Some may choose to take a weekend and then get right back at it.

Whatever they choose that is right for them, in every case it comes down to setting yourself up to be ready for what’s next. What does it take for you to get ready? How do you get ready? Are you prepared? Are you ready in and out of season? Are you dressed for success? Are you standing on a firm foundation? Are you ready to stand your ground and move forward for the glory of God? Are you ready to take on new territory that God is giving you? Are you ready to step up and step into all that God has prepared in advance for you to do and receive? We need to get ready!

“be prepared in season and out of season”

2 Timothy 4:2

‘ “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. ‘

Matthew 24:42-44

‘Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. ‘

1 Peter 5:8

‘Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. ‘

Proverbs 27:1

‘Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty. A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished. ‘

Proverbs 28:19-20

‘Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. ‘

Proverbs 6:6-8

‘Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. ‘

Ephesians 6:10-17

‘“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” ‘

Joshua 1:7-9

‘Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request. ‘

1 Chronicles 4:9-10

Are you ready? Are you ready to thrive? Are you prepared? Are you prepared to thrive? What comes to mind when you see this picture below? Does it go something like:

Let’s get ready to …..

Verse of the Day:

‘Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty— he is the King of glory.’

THRIVE: Are you ready? Are you getting ready? Will you be ready?

Can you believe how fast seems to be going? It’s midweek already and we’ll be heading towards the close of the week in a few hours. So let’s be ready when it’s our turn and our time! Let’s be ready when our number is called! Let’s get ready now and be prepared! Let’s be equipped for what is coming our way so that we can thrive for the glory of God!

So first let’s make sure we are equipped and put on the full armor of God as we get up this morning!

‘And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no weekend war that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels. And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out. ‘

Ephesians 6:10-18

Now that we are dressed for success, let’s get ready!

‘But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, ‘

1 Peter 3:15

‘In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. ‘

2 Timothy 4:1-5

‘Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty. A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished. ‘

Proverbs 28:19-20

‘ “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. ‘

Matthew 24:42-44

‘Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. ‘

1 Peter 5:6-11

‘ “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”’

John 16:33

‘Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. ‘

Proverbs 6:6-8

‘By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith. ‘

Hebrews 11:7

So today let’s be ready! Let’s get ready! Let’s press in and trust God! Let’s persevere and not give up! Let’s move forward in unity at the speed of health! Let’s decide that we will thrive for the glory of God!

Verse of the Day:

‘A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. ‘

Psalms 68:5

Today’s post from Be The Dads is My Father Can Be Your Father! – Day 6

Where are you today? Are you ready? Are you getting prepared? Have you invited Jesus into the situation that you are in so that He can make sure you are ready and prepared? Have you invited Jesus into your heart so that He can make sure you are ready for eternity?

Amen.

THRIVE: What will it look like? What will it feel like? What will it sound like?

As another week has made it over the hump and the changes haven’t finished that are required to get from survival to thrive, it makes me wonder. What will it look like as 2022 moves towards the year to thrive? What will it feel like with all the changes as 2022 moves towards the year to thrive? What will it sound like with the adjustments and moves that are being setup and aligned to make it a year to thrive?

I am happy to hear about my oldest daughter thriving. I am happy to see my younger daughter also thriving. I am happy to get the reports that my son is thriving. And so I cling to God, lean on Him rather than my own understanding, trusting in Him to make my path straight so that 2022 will be a year to thrive. I am so excited that each week we have the opportunity to hold onto the theme of thrive through reading from the book of Exodus.

What will today bring? Let’s work to make sure we are prepared! Let’s be positioned to thrive!

Today’s Verse of the Day comes to us from 1 John 2:15-16 and says: (including v17 to close the point)

‘Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. ‘

1 John 2:15-17

Strange Words – A Dad’s Prayer For His Children – Day 4

So where are you today? Are you preparing? Are you anticipating? Are you getting excited? Are you looking and seeking? Are you reaching and feeling? Are you listening and hearing? Let’s invite Jesus into the center and let’s cling to Him today. Let’s invite Him in to help us navigate through our lives and live them to the full potential.

Let’s pray:

Dear God
I admit I am a sinner and need your forgiveness; I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place paying the penalty for my sins. I am willing right now to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord. I commit myself to you and ask you to send the Holy Spirit into my life, to fill me and take control, and to help me become the kind of person you want me to be. Thank You Father for loving me. In Jesus' name.
Amen.

THRIVE: We need to be prepared to go from survive to thrive!

As I start today the idea of getting prepared for a conversation that is coming seems to make sense. As I start today I consider how God tells us to be ready in and out of season to give a reason for the hope that is within us. In 1 Peter 3:15-16, we read: ‘But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. ‘ In 2 Timothy 4:2, we read: ‘Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. ‘ Throughout scripture, God tells us to be prepared and to get prepared. So today I will spend my non-meeting times getting ready to speak not only of my faith but my team and our future. How about you? Are you ready to thrive? Are you prepared to move forward and thrive? Are you prepared to flip the switch and stop surviving day by day and start to thrive day by day? Are you ready to grab hold of God’s plan to give you hope and a future? Are you ready to grab hold of why Jesus came to this earth so that we can have life and live it to the full?

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. ‘

`1 Timothy 6:12

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Strange Words – A Dad’s Prayer For His Children – Day 3

So are you ready today? Are you getting ready? Are you wondering how to get ready? Let’s get started by inviting Jesus into our lives and our very situation in order to have a firm foundation on which to stand.

Let’s pray:

Amen.

Are you ready to pass the baton? Is there someone who is ready to take it?

Ever watched a relay race where they have to pass the baton within a certain area to another person who is already running in order to complete the race? Do you realize how important it is to have someone to pass the baton to? Do you realize how important it is to have someone ready to receive the baton? Do you realize the impact of making the transition smoothly? Do you realize the benefit to the outcome when we have planned, practiced, and are prepared for the transition? Let’s pause and review the analogy of a race and passing the baton before we consider how this applies to our lives.

Jamaica getting the world-record victory in the 4×100 meter race

It’s not just about how you start. It’s about the connection. It’s about the training. It’s about practice and repetition. It’s about perfecting the pace. If you are too fast then it will mess up the transition. If you are too slow it will mess up the transition. If you are in sync the transition is smooth and the pace forward won’t miss a beat.

If you want each year better then the transition needs to be smooth. If you want each area of focus to get better then the transition needs to be practiced and repeated. If you want to pass the baton to the next generation then you need to make sure they are ready to keep up the pace, receive it, and move forward. So we need to have succession planning! Do you have someone you are mentoring? Do you have someone who is ready to take the baton and keep moving forward without missing a beat? Do you have someone who has been training and preparing for such a day and such a time?

Ever considered how the word success is a part of succession?

"the new king was already elderly at the time of his succession"
synonyms:

the right or sequence of inheriting a position, title, etc..
"the succession to the Crown was disputed"

line of descent · line · descent · ancestral line · blood line · ancestry · dynasty · lineage · genealogy · heritage · pedigree · extraction · derivation · stock · strain · background
Definition of Succession

Ever considered that it takes planning for succession to work? Ever considered that it takes planning for succession to succeed? Ever considered that if you want succession to be a success you need to be planning in advance? How are ahead do you think it needs to be? How long does it take to help someone get ready and be ready to take the baton? It probably depends on the race you are asking them to run and the skills and talents required to do it. So what role(s) do you have? What is/are your succession plans? Do you know or have candidates to pass the baton over to?

  • Succession planning is a process of developing the talent of the employees to meet the needs of the organization now and in the future.
  • Succession Planning can be defined as a purposeful and systematic effort made by an organization to ensure leadership continuity, retain and develop knowledge and intellectual capital for the future and encourage individual employee growth and development.
  • Succession: a number of persons or things following one another in order or sequence.
  • Success: The favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one’s goals. A performance or achievement that is marked by success.
  • Succeed: to thrive, prosper, grow, or the like
  • Succession Planning:
    • Strategic, systematic and deliberate effort to develop competencies in potential leaders through proposed learning experiences such as targeted rotations and educational training in order to fill high-level positions without favoritism.(Mathew Tropiano, 2004)
    • Deliberate and systematic effort by an organization to ensure leadership continuity in key positions and encourage individual advancement. (St-Onge, Mercer)
    • A structured process involving the identification and preparation of potential successors to assume a new roles.

Do you realize the importance? Do you realize the biblical application and examples? Do you realize that you need it? What are you going to do about it? What will you do if it happens before you are ready? What will you do if you don’t have someone in place? Why not consider it and get started today? What is the process? What are steps to have? Dig in and see what you can find. Succession Planning…

Succession Planning

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘Then the contention became so sharp that they parted from one another. And so Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus; but Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of God. And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.’

Acts 15:39-41

Let’s look back and get some additional context from this story and see what we can learn through it. Let’s expand on it too using the Amplified version.

‘After some time Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the brothers and sisters (believers) in every city where we preached the message of the Lord, and see how they are doing.” Now Barnabas wanted to take [his cousin] John, who was called Mark, along with them. But Paul kept insisting that they should not take along with them the one who had quit and deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone on with them to the work. And it became such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took [John] Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus. But Paul chose Silas [who was again in Antioch] and set out [on his second journey], commended by the brothers to the grace and favor of the Lord. And he traveled through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.’

Acts 15:36-41

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Ever had a disagreement?
  • Ever been unable to agree on the outcome?
  • Ever had to deal with division?
  • Ever turned to God to see if maybe He is adjusting the plan(s)?
  • Ever considered how sometimes struggle or disagreements or division are required to bring about change?
  • We see in Acts how Paul and Barnabas had been knocking it out of the part on their journey.
  • Together they were able to bring the gospel to many places and establish churches along the way.
  • They had brought someone along who eventually deserted Paul and as such it caused some division between the two.
  • God used that time to build two teams and we can read later how the relationship with the one who had deserted Paul had been restored.
  • The division wasn’t on the basis of belief but rather on if they should bring John Mark or not.
  • The disagreement wasn’t between right and wrong but rather it was about taking a risk.
  • Since they both weren’t willing to take the risk they chose to divide and conquer with Paul taking Silas and Barnabas taking John Mark.
  • Leadership demands hard choices!
  • Leadership demands hard choices about people.
  • Leadership demands hard choices that aren’t always cut and dry.
  • Different leaders bring different perspectives and as such may not come to the same decision.
  • Different leaders bring different perspectives and as such may not be able to come to an agreement.
  • So as leaders we need to make a decision and move forward.
  • We see how in today’s example 1 team became and 2 and in so doing produced double the effectiveness.
  • It may not have been the plan but it was the choice that was made.
  • The choice was God’s plan and solution to the disagreement.
  • God sometimes has solutions that we may never have considered.
  • God sometimes has solutions that may require a heated disagreement to be created.
  • God’s plans and solutions though do produce more for the Kingdom.
  • So don’t be afraid of disagreements.
  • State your opinion and seek common ground.
  • Then look to find God’s wisdom and direction to guide you in the plan forward for His glory.
  • God has a plan for you.
  • God has a plan for those around you.

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • Would you have given John Mark a second chance? Why or why not?
  • What ground rules and expectations should be put in place when Christians disagree?

What’s up with you? Are you ready to explain why you are that way?

Ever been questioned about why you act the way you do? Ever been questioned about why you believe the way you do? Ever been asked how you seem so confident? Ever been asked about how you seem so sure? Ever been asked how in the midst of storms to be at peace? Ever been asked about how in the midst of troubles you seem to have hope? Ever been asked how in the midst of trials you seem to be filled with joy?

Ever been able to give an answer? I remember at work one time someone said they had some questions and do I have time to chat. We went into a conference room where he said he noticed I seem to be a religious person and wanted to know and understand more so that maybe he could have and live a different life. When he said religious it triggered something in me as religious has certain connotations to me and made me think of rituals and routines rather than relationships and after he explained himself, I explained to him that it isn’t religious, it is about a personal relationship with Jesus. After talking it over for a while he asked me how he could have this relationship and I was able to lead him to the Lord including the sinners’ prayer. I wasn’t looking for such an encounter or such a meeting but I have been preparing so that if or when such an event was to happen I would be ready! I have taken hold of the fact that I am to be ready in and out of season to give a reason for the hope that is within me. I remembered how in God’s Word it wants me to be prepared in season and out of season! I have chosen to live a life that proclaims God’s goodness in the way I choose to treat, engage, and speak with others so that Jesus in me is shining out to the world around in so that in the case or on the day when someone comes to me and asks about the reason for the hope that is within me and how my life has been transformed or seems different from others, I will be ready to share Jesus with them and how Jesus encountered me and how through a relationship with Him, I have been transformed from the inside out! I will be ready to overflow God’s love that has filled my heart and pour into the lives of others! How about you? Do you have this hope? If you don’t then do you want it? If you do then are you ready to give a reason for the hope that is within you? If you don’t think you are then get prepared because the day is coming! If you don’t think you are ready then get ready!

People are watching us every day and when they noticed the difference they start watching more closely. And one day they might even build up the courage to approach you about it and ask you about it. So let’s get ready! Let’s be prepared! Let’s allow the love and hope of Jesus to flow out of our lives ad God continues to pour it into our lives!

Defending Hope

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; ‘

I Peter 3:15

Let’s get additional context around this statement and use the Amplified version to get a better understanding:

‘Now who is there to hurt you if you become enthusiastic for what is good? But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness [though it is not certain that you will], you are still blessed [happy, to be admired and favored by God]. D o not be afraid of their intimidating threats, nor be troubled or disturbed [by their opposition]. But in your hearts set Christ apart [as holy—acknowledging Him, giving Him first place in your lives] as Lord. Always be ready to give a [logical] defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope and confident assurance [elicited by faith] that is within you, yet [do it] with gentleness and respect. And see to it that your conscience is entirely clear, so that every time you are slandered or falsely accused, those who attack or disparage your good behavior in Christ will be shamed [by their own words]. For it is better that you suffer [unjustly] for doing what is right, if that should be God’s will, than [to suffer justly] for doing wrong. For indeed Christ died for sins once for all, the Just and Righteous for the unjust and unrighteous [the Innocent for the guilty] so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit; in which He also went and preached to the spirits now in prison, who once were disobedient, when the great patience of God was waiting in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons [Noah’s family], were brought safely through the water. Corresponding to that [rescue through the flood], baptism [which is an expression of a believer’s new life in Christ] now saves you, not by removing dirt from the body, but by an appeal to God for a good (clear) conscience, [demonstrating what you believe to be yours] through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God [that is, the place of honor and authority], with [all] angels and authorities and powers made subservient to Him.’

1 Peter 3:13-22

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Are you ready for it?
  • You don’t know the day or the time or even the location!
  • Are you ready to give an answer?
  • What if it happens at work? on vacation? at the grocery store?
  • What is it that makes them ask? Is it your kindness? Is it your joy? Is it your generosity? Is it the way you treat others? Is it an event in the news? Is it a family problem? Not sure…
  • So are you ready or getting ready? What if it happens today?
  • Do you know what you will say? Do you know what you would say?
  • Do you know how you would say it?
  • We don’t know how they will ask or why they will ask.
  • Some ask from an intellectual perspective.
  • Some ask from an ethical perspective.
  • Some ask from a personal perspective.
  • No matter the how they are asking, the why they are asking tends to be related to wanting to know if your faith experience is rich, is real, and makes a difference!
  • They are looking for hope!
  • Will you be a hope dealer?
  • They are looking to know they are loved!
  • Will you be a love dealer?
  • They are looking to know they forgiven!
  • Will you be an ambassador of reconciliation?
  • They are looking to be accepted by God!
  • Will you be a messenger for God?
  • Are you ready to tell them the truth? That Jesus encountered you and can meet with them right here and right now?
  • Are you ready to tell them it isn’t fake but that it is real?
  • Are you ready to tell them God loves them too?
  • Is your heart ready? Have you allow Jesus to work in your heart so that from the overflow of your heart the mouth speaks with such love, hope, and power it points people back to Jesus?
  • Are you able to share the truth with authenticity?
  • It’s not about winning an argument!
  • It’s not about intimidating someone to accept God!
  • It’s about loving them authentically and sharing the truth of God with them!
  • It’s not about rituals and routines but rather a living relationship with God!
  • It’s about becoming children of our loving Father, God!
  • So let’s grab a hold of Peter’s recommendation to enter into the conversation with “meekness and fear” with the awe of God for the opportunity and the responsibility and the priviledge to share the light of the God’s Word into a dark world and into darkened and hopeless or saddened hearts!
  • Are you ready?
  • Let’s be ready! If needed, get ready now!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • If someone asked you about your faith today, what would you say and how would you say it?
  • What are some specific things you can do to “sanctify” Christ in your heart so you’ll be ready?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“If knowing Jesus means a lot to you—and if you know Him, it does—then let me urge you to pray for God’s guidance so that you might witness effectively, and for God’s courage so that you will witness often.”

So you find out the time has come and today is the day. How will you respond? Are you ready? Are you prepared? Will you choose to act? The decision is yours! You can do it or not do it! You can choose to not decide which is the same as choosing not to do it! Your choice matters! Your response makes a difference! It will impact your destiny and final destination!

Are you ready? (Being Ready, Being Ready, Being Prepared, Always Being Ready)

  • Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. — Matthew 24:44
  • But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, — 1 Peter 3:15

  • “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. … — Matthew 25:1-13
  • Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. — Matthew 24:42
  • I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. — John 16:33
  • Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” — Revelation 19:7-9
  • But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him. — 1 John 2:27
  • As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. — 1 Timothy 6:17-19
  • Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. — Revelation 1:7
  • Sow with a view to righteousness, Reap in accordance with kindness; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the Lord Until He comes to rain righteousness on you. — Hosea 10:12
  • “Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come. It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert. Therefore, be on the alert—for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep. What I say to you I say to all, ‘Be on the alert!’” — Mark 13:33-37

It’s Time

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”’

Mark 1:14-15

Let’s expand on this to get more context and use the Amplified version to grasp more details too:

‘The beginning of the [facts regarding the] good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written and forever remains in the [writings of the] prophet Isaiah: “Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You, Who will prepare Y our way— A voice of one shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight !’ ” John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins [that is, requiring a change of one’s old way of thinking, turning away from sin and seeking God and His righteousness]. And all the country of Judea and all the people of Jerusalem were continually going out to him; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins. John wore clothing made of camel’s hair and had a [wide] leather band around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. And he was preaching, saying, “After me comes He who is mightier [more powerful, more noble] than I, and I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the straps of His sandals [even as His slave]. As for me, I baptized you [who came to me] with water [only]; but He will baptize you [who truly repent] with the Holy Spirit.”

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Immediately coming up out of the water, he (John) saw the heavens torn open, and the Spirit like a dove descending on Him (Jesus); and a voice came out of heaven saying: “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased and delighted!” Immediately the [Holy] Spirit forced Him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted [to do evil] by Satan; and He was with the wild animals, and the angels ministered continually to Him.

Now after John [the Baptist] was arrested and taken into custody, Jesus went to Galilee, preaching the good news of [the kingdom of] God, and saying, “The [appointed period of] time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins, live your life in a way that proves repentance; seek God’s purpose for your life] and believe [with a deep, abiding trust] in the good news [regarding salvation].” As Jesus was walking by the shore of the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon [Peter] and Simon’s brother, Andrew, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “ Follow Me [as My disciples, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk], and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him [becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example]. Going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, who were also in the boat mending and cleaning the nets. Immediately Jesus called to them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired workers, and went away to follow Him [becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example]. They went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. They were completely amazed at His teaching; because He was teaching them as one having [God-given] authority, and not as the scribes. Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out [terribly from the depths of his throat], saying, “ What business do You have with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet (muzzled, silenced), and come out of him!” The unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions, and screeching with a loud voice, came out of him. They were all so amazed that they debated and questioned each other, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits (demons), and they obey Him.” Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere throughout the district surrounding Galilee. ‘

Mark 1:1-28

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Reflecting on the past, when do you think would have been the best time for Jesus to come?
  • Considering God knows the beginning and the end, what do you think made Him choose that time to send Jesus?
  • Isn’t it interesting how God chose to pick a time over 2000 years ago without all the ability to communicate we have today in an isolated place?
  • Imagine if we could have gotten Jesus to show up now with all the TV, Internet, and worldwide broadcasting abilities but God had a different plan that requires us to be involved (people to be involved).
  • When Jesus stepped out of eternity and into our space/time continuum people got the opportunity to choose to believe in Him.
  • Since that time everyone gets a time where they get the opportunity to receive the gospel and the choice is offered up to them.
  • Paul in Romans 1:19-20 shares how everyone gets enough light to decide or reject the Good News and so nobody has an excuse.
    • ‘For [God does not overlook sin and] the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who in their wickedness suppress and stifle the truth, because that which is known about God is evident within them [in their inner consciousness], for God made it evident to them. For ever since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through His workmanship [all His creation, the wonderful things that He has made], so that they [who fail to believe and trust in Him] are without excuse and without defense. ‘ — Romans 1:18-20
  • Jesus came humbly to this earth to give up Himself for the lives of others.
  • Jesus wasn’t some slick salesman with some flashy marketing campaign!
  • Jesus came as an iterant preacher to share the Good News.
  • Jesus came with his group of followers that He found along the way.
  • Today He comes through friends and family members, even strangers on the street
  • Today He comes through people reaching out to show they care about you.
  • Today He comes through people who reach out to pour love into the lives of others.
  • Today He comes through people who share the Good News they have heard and how it transformed their life!
  • Today He comes through people who share God’s love with them and then it is decision time if they will choose to receive it, accept it, embrace it, and move forward in it.
  • How about you? Do you have it? Do you share it? Do you want it? Do you need it?
    • If you want to get started today, skip to the bottom of this post and join me in the prayer, you can jump back up to this section to continue reading if you want.

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • Do you believe God orchestrates a momen (or several of them) for people to hear the gospel and respond, or is it just by chance?
  • How will you know if it’s time for your family members and friends to hear?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“I believe the greatest single mistake Christians make is not using sales knowledge and common sense in spreading the word about the benefits of walking through this life with Jesus Christ.”

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you today? Are you ready? Is it your turn? Is it your time? Will you decide to invite Jesus into your heart? Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father
I come to you in prayer asking for the
forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my
mouth and believe with my heart that
Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the
Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven.
and have Eternal Life in the Kingdom of

from the dead and I ask you right now to
come in to my life and be my personal
Lord and Savior. I repent of my Sins and
will Worship you all the day's of my Life!
Because your word is truth, I confess with
my mouth that I am Born Again and

Let’s not grow weary in doing good!

Ever found how life can get busy? Ever found how your emotions can get in the way of moving forward? Ever found that you can get tired while doing good? Ever found that you can get discouraged if you aren’t seeing fruit from doing good? Ever found that others may say or do things to try and get you to stop doing good? Let’s consider what God’s Word says about doing good and plant our feet on that.

It is interesting the number of posts I found about the Bible verses on “doing good” like:

Let’s start with the one that motivated my title today and check out a few others too:

  • And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. — Galatians 6:9
  • Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. — Psalm 37:3
  • In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. — Matthew 5:16
  • For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. — Ephesians 2:10
  • What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. — James 2:14-17
  • So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. — James 4:17
  • So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. — Galatians 6:10
  • As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good. — 2 Thessalonians 3:13
  • Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. — Hebrews 13:16

So as you go out today, how much of what you think, say, and do is in your control? Well, God’s Word tells us that in as much as we have the opportunity, let us do good to everyone! So are you ready or getting prepared for this new day so that in every opportunity you will do good to everyone? Will it be easy? Nope, but nobody ever said life would be easy, but Jesus did say it would be worth it. Will we face troubles that try to hold us back and stop us from doing good? Jesus tells us that in this world we will have troubles but that we can take heart because He has overcome the world! Will we have trials to deal with and that will try to stop us from moving forward and doing good? God’s Word tells us to consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kinds because we know that the testing of our faith produces perseverance and that when perseverance has completed its work we will be mature, complete, and lacking nothing! So be it trouble that tries to knock you off track and keep you from doing good or a trial that tries to keep you from keeping that can do good attitude, don’t lose hope but instead put your trust in Jesus and persevere so that in and through it all we can do good that will bring praise, honor, and glory to God!

This is the day that the Lord has made, so let’s rejoice and be glad in it! Let’s do it! (it = good)

Get Busy

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.’

Titus 3:8

Let’s try to grab some additional context by starting at the beginning of this chapter and using the Amplified version for some additional insights:

‘Remind people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready and willing to do good, to slander or abuse no one, to be kind and conciliatory and gentle, showing unqualified consideration and courtesy toward everyone. For we too once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various sinful desires and pleasures, spending and wasting our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. But when the goodness and kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared [in human form as the Man, Jesus Christ], He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we have done, but because of His own compassion and mercy, by the cleansing of the new birth (spiritual transformation, regeneration) and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out richly upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that we would be justified [made free of the guilt of sin] by His [compassionate, undeserved] grace, and that we would be [acknowledged as acceptable to Him and] made heirs of eternal life [actually experiencing it] according to our hope (His guarantee). This is a faithful and trustworthy saying; and concerning these things I want you to speak with great confidence, so that those who have believed God [that is, those who have trusted in, relied on, and accepted Christ Jesus as Savior,] will be careful to participate in doing good and honorable things. These things are excellent [in themselves] and profitable for the people. But avoid foolish and ill-informed and stupid controversies and genealogies and dissensions and quarrels about the Law, for they are unprofitable and useless. After a first and second warning reject a divisive man [who promotes heresy and causes dissension—ban him from your fellowship and have nothing more to do with him], well aware that such a person is twisted and is sinning; he is convicted and self-condemned [and is gratified by causing confusion among believers]. ‘

Titus 3:1-11

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Ever heard that faith without works is dead?
  • Are you ready to take a stand?
  • Will you stand for something before you start to fall for everything?
  • Will you decide to be bold and courageous in your faith by being a doer?
  • Are you ready to take action in alignment with God’s commands?

  • Are you ready to reach out? to those in need?
  • Are you ready to do the good works God is calling you to do?
  • Are you ready to take action?
  • Are you ready to take that risk?
  • Are you ready to see God do amazing things because of your obedience and faith?
  • Are you ready to to do the right thing at the right time for the right reason?
  • Are you ready to move forward in order to try to do the above and learn from the experience in order keep growing and moving forward?
  • Are you ready to be a part of someone else’s life being touched, changed, transformed by the love of Jesus?
  • Are you ready to be that hand reaching out?
  • Are you ready to speak up for Jesus?

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • What commands can you take action to obey today?
  • What can you expect from God and from yourself when you move ahead?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

Feelings follow actions. So when you don’t really want to or feel like doing what needs to be done – do it and then you will feel like doing it.

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you today? Are you ready to be doing good? Are you ready to do good even when you don’t feel like it? Are you ready to do good even when you are facing trials or troubles? Are you ready to do good whenever you get the opportunity? Are you ready to do good in every opportunity for everyone? Let’s be doers of the Word! Need some help? Why not invite God into the situation? Let’s pray:

Are you filled up and ready to go?

So you woke up this morning from a night of sleep and how do you feel? Rested? Tired? Some say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Have you filled up? Are you feeling ready to go? Are you physically ready? Are you mentally ready? Are you emotionally ready? Are you spiritually ready?

If I told you that as I write this I have woken up, worked out, shaved and showered, and am digging into God’s Word as I write up today’s blog post, what would you think?

To get ready for the day, what do you need to do? Does it require food for your body? Does it require food for your soul? Does it require a kick like caffeine? Does it require a kick like sugar? Does it require a kick like the Word of God? What does it take for you to be fully ready for your today?

For me I know I need to have my God time for me to be ready for the day. I need to get filled up with God’s Word. I need to get filled up with God’s presence. I need to get filled up with God’s Spirit. For man can’t live by bread alone but rather requires the bread of life which is the Word of God!

I have found that my attitude is better when I start my day off this way. I found my patience is better when I start my day off this way. I have found my hope and joy are greater when I start my day off this way. I have found that my wisdom and direction are better when I start my day off this way.

So are you ready to be filled to overflow from the water that will prevent you from ever thirsting again?

So do you want to make a difference today? Do you want to make today count? Do you want to be a change agent? Do you want to be a part of doing something, living today for a greater good? Are you ready to live your life in a way that will glorify God? Are you ready to make time and take time before you start your day to hear from God?

Let’s get filled up and ready to go!

When is enough, enough?

How crazy do things need to get? How hard do things need to get? How far off course do things need to get? How many people need to get sick and tired of being sick and tired? How big of a revival would it take to be enough? How far left or right does it have to go? How many will stick to the straight and narrow for it to be enough? How long is it going to take for it to be long enough?

Are you going to be ready?

Are you going to be be 1 Peter 3:15 ready to give a reason or make a defense to anyone who asks you for the reason for the hope that is in you? Are you going to be for Jesus’ return? Don’t be caught off guard like the ladies who weren’t prepared for the wedding feast! Are you watching for the signs of the times so you will stay ready for Jesus’ return? What will you be thinking when the next earthquake hits? What will you think when the news of environmental crisis hits? What will you think as you hear about wars and rumors of wars? What will you think of when you notice corruption in the world and violence taking place everywhere? What will you think when you notice people seem more interested in pleasing themselves and start to live like the warnings of 2 Timothy 3:1-5? What will you think when you notice the financial woes as things start to devalue and everything you have been saving up with and for mount up to nothing as warned in James 5:3? What if the governments of the world just start printing and giving away money, creating huge debts and deficits? What will you think when you notice a world with diseases that cause health to fail and stress to increase? What if it resembled Luke 21:25-26? Don’t get distracted by the work of the devil and miss out on the signs of the times. What if the world started looking to and depending on governments and large pharmaceuticals instead of God for cures and simple remedies? What if it resembled the warning of Revelation 18:23? What if the devil’s goal is to weaken our physical and mental powers that allow us to resist him? What will you think as the amount of knowledge continues to increase? Do you or do we need more knowledge in order to be saved for eternity? Remember what God spoke to Daniel in Daniel 12:4? What will you think when you are confronted by false religious teachers and teachings? Are you prepared from reading God’s Word to be able to know and test what is being said and taught against the truth of God’s Word? Consider what it says in 2 Timothy 4:3-4, Revelation 14:8, and Matthew 24:5. Are people more interested in hearing what makes them feel better than what they need? Are people more interested in being a part of a great story than being told and taught the truth? What will you think when you are confronted with the mark of the beast? What if the only way to be able to live in society is if you have a sign, a paper, a symbol, a passport that marks you acceptable or approved to be able to participate? Consider the warnings of Revelation 13:16-17). What will you think when God’s Word is able to be shared and communicated to everyone in the world, so that everyone has and gets the opportunity to hear it and a time to decide to accept or reject it? Will people turn from their busy days long enough to hear it, receive it, accept it, and be saved? Consider what is shared and said in Matthew 24:14.

Are you ready? Do you know what you are looking for? Will you be encouraged when you start to spot the signs of the end times? Consider what it says in Luke 21:28 where it says: “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

‘“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”’

Luke 21:25-28

So let us be ready today!

When will the End come?

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.’

Matthew 24:13-14

So are you ready? Are you wanting to get ready? Are you wanting to be ready? Are you ready to get started? Are you ready to get ready? Let’s pray

What do you have? Where did you get it? Is it good?

What do you have?

Ever considered what you have? Not comparing to others but just reflecting on what you have? Are you appreciative of what you have? Are you content with what you have? Don’t allow selfish desires like greed to take root! It’s ok to set goals and targets. It’s ok to have desires! Consider what God’s Word says in Matthew 6:

Giving to the Poor and Prayer

‘ “Be [very] careful not to do your good deeds publicly, to be seen by men; otherwise you will have no reward [prepared and awaiting you] with your Father who is in heaven. “So whenever you give to the poor and do acts of kindness, do not blow a trumpet before you [to advertise it], as the hypocrites do [like actors acting out a role] in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored and recognized and praised by men. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, they [already] have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor and do acts of kindness, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing [give in complete secrecy], so that your charitable acts will be done in secret; and your Father who sees [what is done] in secret will reward you. “Also, when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to pray [publicly] standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets so that they may be seen by men. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, they [already] have their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your most private room, close the door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees [what is done] in secret will reward you. “And when you pray, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. So do not be like them [praying as they do]; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors [letting go of both the wrong and the resentment]. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]’ For if you forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins], your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others [nurturing your hurt and anger with the result that it interferes with your relationship with God], then your Father will not forgive your trespasses. ‘

Fasting, The True Treasure, Wealth (Mammon)

‘ “And whenever you are fasting, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they put on a sad and dismal face [like actors, discoloring their faces with ashes or dirt] so that their fasting may be seen by men. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, they [already] have their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head [as you normally would to groom your hair] and wash your face so that your fasting will not be noticed by people, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees [what is done] in secret will reward you. “Do not store up for yourselves [material] treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body; so if your eye is clear [spiritually perceptive], your whole body will be full of light [benefiting from God’s precepts]. But if your eye is bad [spiritually blind], your whole body will be full of darkness [devoid of God’s precepts]. So if the [very] light inside you [your inner self, your heart, your conscience] is darkness, how great and terrible is that darkness! “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord]. ‘

The Cure for Anxiety

‘ “Therefore I tell you, stop being worried or anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted) about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow [seed] nor reap [the harvest] nor gather [the crops] into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by worrying can add one hour to [the length of] his life? And why are you worried about clothes? See how the lilies and wildflowers of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin [wool to make clothing], yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory and splendor dressed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive and green today and tomorrow is [cut and] thrown [as fuel] into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Therefore do not worry or be anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted), saying, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’ For the [pagan] Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; [but do not worry,] for your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’

Matthew 6

In Matthew 6:33, we read:

‘But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. ‘

Matthew 6:33

When we seek God’s purpose, kingdom, and ways then God will give us the desires of our hearts! Let’s take hold of Psalm 37 where it says:

‘Delight yourself in the Lord , And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart. ‘

Psalms 37:4

We aren’t supposed to be worried or anxious about what we have or don’t have! God has opened a door for us to be able to converse and have relationship with Him through prayer (talking with Him). That is what we read in God’s Word

‘Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]. ‘

Philippians 4:6-7

and that God cares so much about us that we should cast our cares, totally throw them over to Him rather than trying to carry them ourselves as we read in God’s Word

‘Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honor in His service] at the appropriate time, casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]. ‘

1 Peter 5:6-7

Where did you get it?

Do you realize where you got it? You might think you worked for it or paid for it right? But where did you get that money? Where did you get the talents? Where did you get the gifts? Do you think you are a self-made person? Do you think you got here all by yourself? Or do you realize that God knit you together in your mother’s womb? Do you realize God knew you even before you were born and that He selected you? Do you realize that God created you on purpose, with purpose, and for a purpose? You weren’t a surprise to God! You may have been a surprise or a woops to your parents but you weren’t to God! Do you realize that every good and perfect gift comes from God? That’s right, you got all that good stuff from God! Your talents! Your abilities! Your personality! Your love!

Consider the gifts of the Spirit and how we should desire them, not trying to hold them back or put them out. In 1 Corinthians 12 we learn about 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit:

‘But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the Holy Spirit] for the common good. To one is given through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] the message of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] the word of knowledge and understanding according to the same Spirit; to another [wonder-working] faith [is given] by the same [Holy] Spirit, and to another the [extraordinary] gifts of healings by the one Spirit; and to another the working of miracles, and to another prophecy [foretelling the future, speaking a new message from God to the people], and to another discernment of spirits [the ability to distinguish sound, godly doctrine from the deceptive doctrine of man-made religions and cults], to another various kinds of [unknown] tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues. All these things [the gifts, the achievements, the abilities, the empowering] are brought about by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, distributing to each one individually just as He chooses. ‘

1 Corinthians 12:7-11

(found the following list online from Curt Landry Ministries – curtlandry.com)

  1. The Word of Knowledge—This gift of the Holy Spirit is having knowledge about something that you have no ability or means of knowing based on your human intelligence.
  2. The Word of Wisdom—This gift of the Holy Spirit works with the word of knowledge. It gives you the ability and understanding of how to apply the word of knowledge.
  3. The Gift of Prophecy—This gift of the Holy Spirit is one that the scripture says, “to especially desire.” This gift is a direct Word from the Lord that is to be given to someone else to edify and build them up.
  4. The Gift of Faith—This gift of the Holy Spirit grows as we walk with the Lord. You are saved by faith. The gift of faith is knowing full well that you cannot accomplish something on your own, but that Lord has empowered you to move into new levels to do miracles and wonders in His name.
  5. The Gifts of Healings—There are actually different kinds of healings that the Spirit will do. Notice that the scripture says “gifts,” plural. These gifts equip you in various ways to access healing for yourself or be an anointed vessel that will heal others.
  6. The Working of Miracles—This gift of the Holy Spirit is depicted throughout the Bible, from Moses parting the Red Sea to Jesus feeding 5000 people. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Therefore, He is still in the business of working miracles. Similar to the word of knowledge, this spiritual gift is manifested not by human efforts, but by the Holy Spirit. The work is unexplainable by nature. It edifies and delivers others.
  7. The Discerning of Spirits—This gift of the Holy Spirit equips the discerner to see evil spirits that are operating in someone’s life. The Holy Spirit pulls back the curtains, exposing the evil spirits so that the person can experience a breakthrough from their bondage.
  8. Different Kinds of Tongues—This gift of the Holy Spirit is simply a supernatural ability to speak and pray in a tongue that you do not naturally know. This can be spoken forth in prayer direct to God, or in an assembly where God anoints another Believer, with the gift of interpretation, to interpret the word spoken in the native tongue of the congregation (1 Corinthians 14:2, 13-14).
  9. The Interpretation of Tongues—This gift of the Holy Spirit is to interpret the tongue that was spoken. This can either be for yourself (see 1 Corinthians 14:13-14) or for the Church (see 1 Corinthians 14:27-28).

So what do you think of the good gifts you have received from God? What do you think of what you have? What do you think of where you got it from? Consider it as you step out and walk out your today!

Great is Thy Faithfulness

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. ‘

James 1:17

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Do you realize that God is the same, yesterday, today, and tomorrow?
  • Do you realize that God is good to His Word and His promises?
  • Do you realize that everything God has promised has been fulfilled?
  • Do you realize that God is light and there is no darkness in Him?
  • Do you realize how compassionate God is?
  • Do you realize that God is love and so in 1 Corinthians 13 when we read the definition of love it is also a definition of who God is?
  • God is faithful and never changing!
  • Put another way, God is immutable! He is unchanging over time! He is unable to be changed!
  • God’s nature never changes!
  • So don’t lose hope, put your trust in God who never changes and is always faithful!
  • Don’t allow the lies of the devil to erode your faith, your emotional stability, or your spiritual growth!
  • Hold onto the truths and allow your faith to grow, your emotions to be stable, and your spiritual life to grow!
  • God isn’t like us! He doesn’t flip flop on His ways. Unlike us who change our minds, even multiple times in a short period of time, God’s standing firm! He knows all! He knows the beginning and the end!
  • God isn’t indecisive like we can tend to be! God is dependable and we can count on Him!
  • So anything in your life feeling out of control? I know in 2020 I felt that way most of the year and so my one option was to lean in harder on God because I knew He was my rock and my fortress, my ever present help in times of need!
  • Anything in your life feeling foggy? I know in 2020 I was looking for clarity and kept walking with God as He lit my path like a lighthouse through the fog!
  • Ever wondered, worries, or questioned people in your life and their intentions? I know in 2020 I had some of those feelings but I had the confidence that God would be there and He would help me get through it all because His love, His strength, and His purpose for me hadn’t changed and will never change!
  • So let’s have faith! Let’s allow our faith to build through the highs and lows of life! Let’s take hold of God’s nature! Let’s lean in on God’s love and power as described in His Word (the Bible). Let’s hold tight to the reality of Jesus who came, who gave, and who is sitting at the right hand of the Father, interceding for you and for me as we have received and accepted Him as our Lord and Savior! Let’s remember the transformation that has taken place in our lives by receiving Jesus into our lives and the work He continues to do until He returns in and through our lives!
  • Let’s count on God!
  • Let’s stand firm on the solid rock of Jesus Christ!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • Why is it important to our faith that God never changes?
    • If He changed then we wouldn’t be able to trust or expect what He will do.
  • What are you counting on Him for today?
    • Wisdom and Discernment
      • to know what to do
    • Protection and Health
      • so I can be confident in doing what He calls me to do without fear

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess.”

Martin Luther

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

  • Isaiah 46 (sefaria.org)
    • Till you grow old, I will still be the same; When you turn gray, it is I who will carry; I was the Maker, and I will be the Bearer; And I will carry and rescue [you].
    • Bear in mind what happened of old; For I am God, and there is none else, I am divine, and there is none like Me.
    • I foretell the end from the beginning, And from the start, things that had not occurred. I say: My plan shall be fulfilled; I will do all I have purposed.
  • Isaiah 47 (sefaria.org)
  • Isaiah 48 (sefaria.org)

So where are you at today? Are you ready to turn to God? Are you ready to hear from God? Are you ready to start a relationship with God? Are you ready to acknowledge Him and allow Him to make your path straight?

Do you need guidance? Do you need direction? Do you need wisdom? Do you need understanding? Are you at the end of your rope? Are you in need of help? Are you ready and willing to ask? Are you ready and willing to seek? Are you ready and willing to knock? Join me in this prayer today:

May…

Is it a word that ensure you are being polite? May I …? Is it asking for permission? May I …? Is it expressing a wish or hope? May she … Is it expressing possibilities? that may … Or is it just the month we are starting today?

As the rain of April starts getting the ground ready for the flowers of May, how have you been preparing? Have you been preparing? Have you been planning? Have you been vision casting? Have you been mapping out the mission statement? Have you been exercising or planning a program? Have you been dieting or planning a program? Are you studying and getting ready so that you can give an answer for the hope that is within you? Are you going to be ready when you are called before leadership? Are you going to be ready in and out of season? Are you going to be prepared for the day when Jesus returns? Let’s prepare and be ready!

How good is your vision? Are you ready to allow God’s vision to lead and guide you? Are you ready to pursue God’s vision for you and your life? Are you ready to do what God calls you to do and pursue His vision? I know our vision can be limited at times since we can only see so far. Would you be willing to allow God’s eyes and His vision to lead and guide you for the rest of your days?

May today be your day? May today be the time? May today be the beginning of something bigger than yourself? May today be the turning point? May today be the day you capture a vision? May today be the day you answer the call?

The Power of Vision

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘Where there is no vision, the people perish: But he that keepeth the law, happy is he. ‘

Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)

Today’s verse comes from the King James Version but I wanted to reflect some of translations to see what else we can grab from this proverb.

‘Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.’

Proverbs 29:18 (NKJV)

‘When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.’

Proverbs 29:18 (NLT)

‘ Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish; but he who keeps the law [of God, which includes that of man]–blessed (happy, fortunate, and enviable) is he. [I Sam. 3:1; Amos 8:11, 12.]’

Proverbs 29:18

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Do you have a clear vision for your life?
  • Have you received a vision from God?
  • Will you decide to gladly subject every aspect of your life to this vision and calling in order that you can fulfill your life purpose and calling?
  • Do you have a partial or vague vision for your life?
  • Do you try to make your way through life based on that vague or partial view of things and seeking deeper meaning and direction?
  • Are you a dreamer? Do you dream enough? Do you dream too much? Do you limit or miss out on dreaming enough?
  • We need to dream! Dreaming too little is worse than dreaming too much!
  • We need to be in motion because just like a car, it is easier to steer it when it is rolling.
  • By being in motion God is able to help point us in better directions if or when we get off track.
  • Being stuck and not moving makes steering pointless as it doesn’t get us anywhere.
  • I remember being stuck in mud as well as in soft sand and in both cases, steering didn’t help because we couldn’t move.
  • Where does your vision come from?
  • Are you able to see something, analyze it, set goals and the push towards getting it done?
  • Was it from encouraging and supportive friends and family who saw potential in you and kept encouraging and fanning into flames something bigger?
  • Vision is the important part – be it imparted in you or developed on your own, the key is to have vision!
  • Do you have it? A clear and compelling sense of purpose? If not you need to start hanging around people who do so that you can let some of what they have rub off on you.
  • They are all over the place, so if you need it start looking!
  • We need to be cautious though because who we decide to hang out with matters!
  • A quote to remember:
  • We need to be looking for people with a vision centered on helping others rather than being self-centered and selfish!
  • We don’t need to learn how to be self-centered and self-absorbed or how to be selfish!
  • Let’s look for people who are driven and motivated by love!
  • Let’s look for people who are driven and motivated to serve others!
  • Let’s look for people who are driven and motivated to build others up!
  • And when we find them, let’s stick with them so that we can learn to become more like that and catch the dream, the vision, the passion and have it rub off on you.

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
Describe someone you know whose vision is clear, compelling, and centered on others.
  • Pastor Steve
  • Tommy Barnett
Does your sense of purpose need an overhaul? Explain your answer.
  • No – God helped me to reprioritize life a while back putting Him first, my wife second, my family next and then he put serving kids in the foster care system first with younger kids and then later the older teens. He put the need to serve those I work with in order that His joy and love would be seen and known.

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“A vision without the ability to execute it is called hallucinating! Every God-given vision will result in being fulfilled; every man-concocted vision will be a dead end.”

Ike Reighard

“Go as far as you can see, and when you get there, you will always see farther.”

Zig Ziglar

will Worship you all the day’s of my Life!
Because your word is truth, I confess with
my mouth that I am Born Again and
Cleansed by the Blood of Jesus! In Jesus
Name, Amen

Did you pray with me?
Would you be willing to leave me a comment so that I can pray with and for you about such an incredible decision?

Or if you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment on my blog, why not email or text me instead?
