Yesterday was a fun day getting to get up on stage with an incredible team of people to be commissioned for camps this summer. Yesterday was a fun day getting to spend time with the family with a great meal and time together to celebrate father’s day. Yesterday was a great day too as I was able to get a great sleep in preparation for this new work week.
Are you ready? Are you prepared? Are you filled with the Holy Spirit to overflow? Are you filled with love to overflowing? Are you filled with compassion to overflowing? Are you filled with energy and excitement to overflow? Are you ready to thrive for the glory of God? Are you ready to accomplish the good works that God has prepared in advance for you to accomplish? Are you ready to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to adjust your calendar in order to accomplish all God has planned and prepared for you to accomplish?
This is the day that the Lord has made and so let us rejoice and be glad in it!
Today’s Verse of the Day:
‘From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised. ‘
Are you ready? Are you aware? Are you aligned? Are you prepared? Are you filled? Wherever you are right now, invite Jesus into your heart to help. Wherever you are right now, invite Jesus into your life to transform, lead, guide, direct, and to correct. Wherever you are right now, allow the Holy Spirit to be your comforter and your guide, your counselor, and advocate to help you move forward into all that God has planned and prepared for you!
If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email.
Where does your power come from? Where does your hope come from? What allows you to keep going? What is the foundation that helps you stand firm? What is the ground you are allowing your roots to grow into? What is feeding you? What is filling you? What is it helping you to become?
Have you invited Jesus into your heart to help clean house? Have you invited Jesus into your heart to help you uproot things that shouldn’t be there? Have you invited Jesus into your heart to help create a new heart, a new perspective, and a new life for you? When you allow God to be your source and fill you to overflowing then you are able to pour life and love and hope into the people God brings your way. When you allow Jesus to be your foundation and cornerstone then you are able to stand firm and be prepared by putting on the full armor of God! When we allow Jesus to be in charge then we are able to live out our lives in pursuit of His plans and purposes for our lives and be His hands and arms extended to reach a lost world and point them to an eternity with God instead of one where they will continue to suffer apart from God. What’s it cost? Your decision! It’s too expensive for us to be able to pay for it or even afford it and so God is giving it away to those who will accept and receive it! It’s not something we can borrow from others but rather something we have to decide and receive for ourselves. Unlike material things which can be borrowed for a season, faith in Jesus requires us to accept and receive it for ourselves. The decision is ours and ours alone to make. It’s personal! It’s intimate! It’s real! So we need to make the decision on our own and for ourselves!
Let’s get more context for this statement by expanding the verses around it and getting more details by using the Amplified version.
‘Everything is permissible for me, but not all things are beneficial. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything [and brought under its power, allowing it to control me]. Food is for the stomach and the stomach for food, but God will do away with both of them. The body is not intended for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body [to save, sanctify, and raise it again because of the sacrifice of the cross]. And God has not only raised the Lord [to life], but will also raise us up by His power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Am I therefore to take the members of Christ and make them part of a prostitute? Certainly not! Do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall be one flesh .” But the one who is united and joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. Run away from sexual immorality [in any form, whether thought or behavior, whether visual or written]. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the one who is sexually immoral sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God, and that you are not your own [property]? You were bought with a price [you were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made His own]. So then, honor and glorify God with your body.’
If you consider your eyes as the sight then what is your aim in life?
If you consider your eyes as the sight then what are you pointing at or towards?
Are you pointing upwards and towards God and His purpose and plans?
Are you pointing to earthly things and away from God?
Are you earthly like the young in their faith Corinthians that Paul is speaking to?
Are you ready to level up your life in response to Paul’s writing?
We see how Paul is speaking to them in today’s verses about food and sex.
‘ 1 Corinthians 6:12-13
Are you ready to receive the truth that our body and our urges have come from God?
Are you ready to receive the truth that everything we are and have is to glorify God?
Are you ready to live free rather than being restricted or imprisoned within our bodies by food and sex?
Are you ready to live free by dedicating your body to God?
Are you ready to live free by dedicating your body to honoring God?
So where are you at today? Are you ready to decide to live a life to the full? Are you ready to decide to live a life that has been redeemed? Are you ready to decide to live a life that has been forgiven and can forgive others? Are you ready to receive hope? Are you ready to receive joy? Are you ready to receive love? Are you ready to overflow in all of these into the lives of the world around you? Let’s pray:
Heavenly Father I come to you in prayer asking for the forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my mouth and believe with my heart that Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven. and have Eternal Life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Father, I believe that Jesus rose from the dead and I ask you right now to come in to my life and be my personal Lord and Savior. I repent of my Sins and will Worship you all the day’s of my Life! Because your word is truth, I confess with my mouth that I am Born Again and Cleansed by the Blood of Jesus! In Jesus Name, Amen

Have you tried to fill that need, that desire, that hole with things? Buying more and more in hopes of filling it up and not feeling an emptiness? Have you tried to fill that need, that desire, that hole with relationships? Doing or saying or testing or experimenting more and more in hopes of filling it up and not feeling an emptiness? Have you tried to fill that need, that desire, that hole with drugs or alcohol? Have you tried to dampen or wipe out that empty feeling by taking things that disrupt memories, emotions, pain, and ability to learn or discern or perceive? How are you being tempted to try and fill the hole or void? What temptations are coming your way to trick you into thinking they can fill that hole or void? Are you still looking for that missing piece? Do you realize you were built with a piece missing that can only be filled by having a relationship with God?
Might you consider taking hold of what John 10:10 says?
‘The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]. ‘
Might you reflect or consider these verses from Romans 5?
‘Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, so death spread to all people [no one being able to stop it or escape its power], because they all sinned.
For just as through one man’s disobedience [his failure to hear, his carelessness] the many were made sinners, so through the obedience of the one Man the many will be made righteous and acceptable to God and brought into right standing with Him. ‘
Do you realize that there are experiences and events in your life that can cause holes? Do you realize what the right response or way to fill those holes are? As I was searching around, I found this interesting post that has a table that shows and points to both the hole, the lack, or the wound as well as the vitamin or response to deal with or take care of it. I will share the table but for more insights and details check out the article.

So where are you at today? What hole are you trying to fill? Is it the God shaped hole that requires starting a relationship with God? Is it a hole caused by loss or injury? Are you ready and willing to invite God into your life to help you navigate it? Are you ready and willing to invite God into your life and allow Him to bring healing and restoration to your heart? Could today be your day?
‘He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.’
Let’s look for additional context from Solomon using the Amplified version and some verses from around it.
‘What profit is there for the worker from that in which he labors? I have seen the task which God has given to the sons of men with which to occupy themselves. He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]—yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end. I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good as long as they live; and also that every man should eat and drink and see and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God. I know that whatever God does, it endures forever; nothing can be added to it nor can anything be taken from it, for God does it so that men will fear and worship Him [with awe-filled reverence, knowing that He is God]. That which is has already been, and that which will be has already been, for God seeks what has passed by [so that history repeats itself]. Moreover, I have seen under the sun that in the place of justice there is wickedness, and in the place of righteousness there is wickedness. I said to myself, “God will judge both the righteous and the wicked,” for there is a time [appointed] for every matter and for every deed. I said to myself regarding the sons of men, “God is surely testing them in order for them to see that [by themselves, without God] they are [only] animals.” For the [earthly] fate of the sons of men and the fate of animals is the same. As one dies, so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no preeminence or advantage for man [in and of himself] over an animal, for all is vanity. All go to the same place. All came from the dust and all return to the dust. Who knows if the spirit of man ascends upward and the spirit of the animal descends downward to the earth? So I have seen that there is nothing better than that a man should be happy in his own works and activities, for that is his portion (share). For who will bring him [back] to see what will happen after he is gone?’
What aren’t you sure of? What do you find mystery in?
Ever considered the definition of faith?
‘Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]. ‘ — Hebrews 11:1
Do you ever find yourself in awe or surprised what God does, even though you know He can do it?
So you know He can and then when He does it amazes you. This is the two facts of life working together to help us continue to look at God’s goodness and greatness with a sense of awe and amazement. Certainty vs Mystery!
Take a look around as the seasons change and it screams to God’s existence!
Grab hold of the reality that history tells us that He became a man and died for our sins over 2000 years ago!
Let’s grab hold of these certainties!
Let’s stick close to God as we live out our lives as we have each been created on purpose, with purpose, and for a purpose and as such we get to live out the mystery of life!
Let’s remember that His ways are not our ways but rather they are higher and better than our ways!
‘“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord . ‘ — Isaiah 55:8
So let’s stand on the rock that is immovable that is Jesus Christ!
Let’s enjoy the journey of life with its mysteries!
Let’s live out our lives with intrigue!
Let’s realize the beauty of life through these mysteries and intrigue!
Let’s look for the beauty in its season!
DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
Do you feel more comfortable with certainty or with mystery?
What are some reasons you need the other trait in your life and in your walk with God?
So where are you at today? Are you ready for the next phase of your life like Job? Are you ready for a better second half? Are you ready to have that void, the hole filled permanently by God? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart?
As this thought came to mind and I stirred around songs that speak to what you have or for those who haven’t made the decision could have, it was interesting because the first song that came up felt like the right one but I wasn’t sure if it would fit with today’s topic. So let’s take a moment and watch and listen to grab of the words being shared and what we can decide to accept and choose.
Zach Williams – Chain Breaker
As I consider how having started a relationship with Jesus and how it has transformed my life, my purpose, my plans, my perspective, and my responses and actions, I realize there are so many benefits to having a relationship with Jesus including but not limited to never being alone, never being abandoned, and always having someone to talk to about anything. When all I have is Jesus, I have everything that I need.
How about you? What do you have? What do you need? Do you have what you need? If we reflect on the song, are there things you would like Jesus to take from you? Are there things you would like Jesus to break off or break away from you? Are there things you would like to have more of like love, freedom, or just to be saved? Could today be the day you realize and accept Jesus into your life? Could today be the day you decide to invite Jesus into your life and allow Him to help transform you and your life from the inside out? Could today be the day you start new and afresh knowing you are good, clean and clear, forgiven and reconciled with God?
So what do you have? What do you need? Do know you you’ve got?
‘Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” ‘
Let’s consider the context of this message and grab hold of the moral directions that were being given and expand on it by using the Amplified version:
‘Let love of your fellow believers continue. Do not neglect to extend hospitality to strangers [especially among the family of believers—being friendly, cordial, and gracious, sharing the comforts of your home and doing your part generously], for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as if you were their fellow prisoner, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body [and subject to physical suffering]. Marriage is to be held in honor among all [that is, regarded as something of great value], and the marriage bed undefiled [by immorality or by any sexual sin]; for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Let your character [your moral essence, your inner nature] be free from the love of money [shun greed—be financially ethical], being content with what you have; for He has said, “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax M y hold on you [assuredly not]!” So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently say, “The Lord is my Helper [in time of need], I will not be afraid . W hat will man do to me ?” ‘
Are you content with what you have or are you wanting what others have?
Are you considering what you have rather than comparing and coveting what your neighbor has?
What is causing the insecurity that makes you think or feel you need what others have?
What is the reason behind the fear?
Fear wants to rob from us! The Bible tells us that faith is the antidote of fear!
The devil wants to stir up fear and worry in order to rob us for peace and contentment.
Are you ready to fear not and start to believe in God?
If it isn’t fear that is causing you to not be content, could it be greed?
Do you realize how craving things rather than God and a relationship with Him robs our hearts?
Do you realize how craving things robs ruins relationships?
Don’t be robbed by greed! Take hold of God and invite Jesus into your heart! He is the only one who can fill that hole you would keep trying to fill!
Let’s not allow fear and greed to rob us of everything God desires for us!
When that feeling arises, let’s take hold of it and give it over to God!
When that thought comes to mind, let’s take every thought captive in order to be able to have the right response.
Let’s decide to get rid of every covetous thought!
Let’s decide to replace any covetous thought with a thought of contentment!
You might be wondering how do we do that. Let’s in the moment remember that every good and perfect gift comes from God! Let’s in the moment remember how we have the promise that God will never leave us nor forsake/abandon us.
Let’s allow our hearts to be filled to overflowing with love, mercy, grace, and strength from God!
Let’s take hold of the reality that thanks to God we have everything that we need!
Let’s invest our time and efforts in building up our relationship with Jesus so that we can have true contentment and the richness of His love and friendship.
God promises to be as close as our breath!
God promises to never leave us for a second!
Do you have an empty spot that you are trying to fill?
What is the cause or the reason for the empty feeling?
If we allow God to pour into our hearts to overflowing, it will never feel empty and will allow us to be able to pour out into the lives of so many others that God brings across our path.
Let’s decide to be people who allow God to fill us to overflowing so that we can overflow His presence into the lives of others who are in need and needing to be filled up!
Let’s take hold of this incredible relationship with Jesus who is our King, our Savior, and our Best Friend!
DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
How much do you crave things? What do you hope they’ll do for you?
In what way does Christ’s presence give us true contentment?
QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
“It is a dangerous thing to ask why someone else has been given more. It is humbling and indeed healthy to ask why you have been given so much.”
So where are you at today? Are you in need or want? Are you in the know or seeking? Are you looking for an answer? Are you ready to be set free? Are you ready to have the invisible chains broken off of your life?
So you woke up this morning from a night of sleep and how do you feel? Rested? Tired? Some say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Have you filled up? Are you feeling ready to go? Are you physically ready? Are you mentally ready? Are you emotionally ready? Are you spiritually ready?
If I told you that as I write this I have woken up, worked out, shaved and showered, and am digging into God’s Word as I write up today’s blog post, what would you think?
To get ready for the day, what do you need to do? Does it require food for your body? Does it require food for your soul? Does it require a kick like caffeine? Does it require a kick like sugar? Does it require a kick like the Word of God? What does it take for you to be fully ready for your today?
For me I know I need to have my God time for me to be ready for the day. I need to get filled up with God’s Word. I need to get filled up with God’s presence. I need to get filled up with God’s Spirit. For man can’t live by bread alone but rather requires the bread of life which is the Word of God!
I have found that my attitude is better when I start my day off this way. I found my patience is better when I start my day off this way. I have found my hope and joy are greater when I start my day off this way. I have found that my wisdom and direction are better when I start my day off this way.
So do you want to make a difference today? Do you want to make today count? Do you want to be a change agent? Do you want to be a part of doing something, living today for a greater good? Are you ready to live your life in a way that will glorify God? Are you ready to make time and take time before you start your day to hear from God?
‘But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”’
Do you see the needs around you? Do you see the impact you can make on their lives? Do you see what your role in filling the needs could be? Do you see what your purpose in meeting the needs can be? Who will you serve today?
Do you see the need of orphans? Do you see the need of widows? Do you see the need of the homeless? Do you see the need of kids? Do you see the need of youth? Do you see the need of women? Do you see the need of men? Do you see the need of the incarcerated? Do you see the need of the imprisoned? Do you see the need of your neighbors? Do you see the need of your community? Do you see the need of the schools? Do you see the need of the students? Do you see the need at work? Do you see the need at home? Do you see the need on your team? Do you see some other need? Who will you serve today?
Will you see a need and fill it? Will you see someone in need and serve them? Who will you serve today?
‘And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’’
So do you see a need to fill? Do you have a need to be filled? Could today be the day that your need could be filled by inviting Jesus into your heart and your life?
As I was reading this morning from The Power of a Half Hour by Tommy Barnett, the need of people in the community was discussed and in particular the one that hit home for me was in relations to the kids in the foster care system who age out. Imagine having been in a system where you have been taken away from your parents and put into other family’s homes and then when you turn 18 someone shows up and tells you that you are on your own. Imagine the situation you find yourself in. Imagine the confusion or the needs or the troubles in addition to everything else you had to go through and now are facing. In today’s reading their church saw the need and so asked their church to give suitcases filled with everything you would need at 18 to fill in this situation. He also shared how they go with the caseworkers and offer them support through the Dream Center including housing, schooling, training, and more. They are an example of people who saw a need and decided by the power of God to fill it.
Where are you at today? Do you see a need in your neighborhood? Do you see a need in your community? Do you see a need at work? Do you see a need at your kid’s sporting event? Do you see a need at the schools? If you see the need, is there something you might be able to do to fill it? Might God have allowed you to see it in order that He could use you to fill it? Will you listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit? Will you be obedient to God’s call to make a difference and be the difference in the life of someone in need? Could today be the day you learn their name? Could today be their day to have an encounter with love? Could today be their day to have an encounter with God? Could you be His hands and arms extended? Could you be His legs and feet going? Is today your day?
How God delivers isn’t always how we might have thought or expected.
When God delivers isn’t always in the timing we would have hoped or wanted.
We need to come humbly asking rather than pridefully demanding
God knows everything and He know the right way and the right time, so if we demand something that would be the wrong way or would be at the wrong time then we would be setting ourselves up for a potential worse fate and so we need to lean in on Him rather than our own understanding and trust Him, His ways, and His timing!
Would you rather do it God’s way or demand your own way and find disappointment?
If you demand and then find disappointment, if you don’t stop it can become discouragement!
Faith is trusting in God, no matter what!
Faith is trusting in God even when you don’t feel it or see it!
We might not be able to see it with our physical eyes but we can still trust God is at work through our faith!
Let’s take hold of God’s purposes, ways, timing, and promises!
Let’s put our trust in God more than being oblivious to the reality of the situation we are going through!
Let’s put our trust that God is at work and in His perfect timing He will deliver us!
Some times it takes going through the tough times for us to be able to learn and grow most!
Like the Psalm says about when we are in the valley, let’s not give up nor fear evil!
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. — Psalm 23:4
Let’s trust God when we are on the highest mountain tops and also when we are in the lowest valley lows!
Let’s trust God to lead us and guide us through it all!
Let’s trust God will lead us out of the valleys!
DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
When we experience difficulties, what are some differences between demanding answers from God and trusting that He will deliver us in His way and in His time?
Demanding makes it look like we are in control and when or if it doesn’t happen like we are asking it can lead to disappointment or worse to discouragement!
What are some of the lessons we learn in life’s valleys?
So what is it that you believe? What is it that you know? Do you have faith? Do you believe in God? Have you started a walk in relationship with God? Have you discovered that it doesn’t mean you won’t have problems but rather that God will be with you in and through them? If you haven’t started a relationship with God, is there something holding you back from receiving what Jesus has to offer? If you haven’t started a relationship with God, is there a fear or a worry that might be keeping you from accepting the gift of grace through Jesus? Might today be your day?
Where are you at today? Are you looking for guidance? Are you wondering where to turn? Are you at the end of your rope and needing help? Are you ready for some help? Are you ready to turn to God and ask? seek? knock? Let’s pray together:
Heavenly Father I come to you in prayer asking for the forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my mouth and believe with my heart that Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven. and have Eternal Life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Father, I believe that Jesus rose from the dead and I ask you right now to come in to my life and be my personal Lord and Savior. I repent of my Sins and will Worship you all the day’s of my Life! What comes to your mind when you hear or see or read the words Prime Time? Do you think TV hours from 8pm-11pm? Do you think of it as the optimal or best possible time to do something? Do you think of it as the highest priority time? Do you think of it as the best years of your life? Or are you like me who likes math and it resonates around prime numbers (numbers that can only be divided by 1 and itself)?
Today is prime time in my life as I consider ages and even a special birthday. 13 is a prime number. 17 is a prime number. 47 is a prime number. But 20 is 10×2, 4×5 and 51 is 3×17 and so aren’t prime. Happy 17th little one!
Let’s consider what John 19 is saying in the moment:
‘After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.’ — John 19:28-30
He took the pain of the cross – crucifixion, one of the most excruciating forms of torture in human history. Painful. Gasping for air. Tremendous thirst.
Jesus knew everything that was going on and being fulfilled.
Nobody killed Jesus, He gave up His life for you and for me to make a way when there didn’t seem to be a way.
Jesus took on the pain and suffering of the cross in order to pay the just penalty of our sins, the sins of humanity so that everyone who would turn to Him and receive the gift of Grace from God would be able to be saved and reconciled to God.
He conquered both sin and death by not only dying on the cross but also resurrecting three days later.
He became the substitute, our redeemer
He took the death that we deserve because of our sins
Jesus made sure every i was dotted and t was crossed in the prophesies so that when He said “It is finished” it was.
That is how important we are to God!
That is how much God loves us!
DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
Why was it important to Jesus — and to us — that every detail of prophesy be fulfilled?
He didn’t want any detail to be missed or and requirement to be missed.
To us we know that everything was done in a way that we can be fully reconciled to God through Jesus
How do these fulfilled prophecies strengthen our faith?
It is amazing to consider the hundreds and thousands of years that they all took part of or were spoken in and yet, they all were fulfilled through Jesus!
Where are you at today? Are you looking for guidance? Are you wondering where to turn? Are you at the end of your rope and needing help? Are you ready for some help? Are you ready to turn to God and ask? seek? knock? Let’s pray together.
