THRIVE: Harness the excitement and the energy in order to finish strong and celebrate!

After waking up in the middle of the night to some huge excitement and then sleeping in from my usual wake-up time, today is going to be one that is filled with excitement and energy as my younger daughter’s graduation ceremony is tonight. So in preparation for that excitement on a personal level, I will use that energy and excitement to help me finish my workweek strong and get a bunch done in order to be able then to get to celebrate tonight and this weekend as my kids, my parents, my mother-in-law is all here with my wife and me to have a grand weekend celebration.

How about you? What can you use to have the energy to get what God has prepared in advance for you to do and get it done? What will you do to finish the week strong? How will you celebrate in order to thrive and glorify God?

THRIVE - LIVING FOR THE GLORY OF GOD

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. ‘

Ephesians 2:10

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Just For Dads: Be A Positive Christian Role Model – Day 9

Today let’s choose to make a difference! Let’s choose to be salt and light! Let’s invite Jesus into our hearts! Let’s invite Jesus into our lives! Let’s allow Jesus to give us the wisdom and discernment, direction, and instruction!

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email.

Let’s Pray!

Prayer Of Salvation
"Oh Father God, I believe with all of my heart that Jesus died on the cross for my sake and has risen from the dead. Lord, I receive Your Word and I repent of my sins. I renounce the past. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. I receive my forgiveness. I receive the new birth, cleansed and washed in the Word and in the precious blood of Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit, in Jesus' name. Amen."

THRIVE: Let the excitement energize you!

Happy Today everyone! So there is so much going on these past couple of weeks and it isn’t done yet. Many things extend days till late into the night. Many things are joyful and filled with celebrations. Now we need to harness these emotions and feelings to energize us to finish the good works God has prepared in advance for us to accomplish. Let’s harness these emotions to be able to press in and press on to thrive for the glory of God!

Ever get that feeling in your gut, some describe it as butterflies? It can happen when you are feeling excited and when you are feeling nervous. What I try to do is tell myself something exciting is about or is happening whenever I get that feeling so that my brain does cause me to freak out when that feeling happens. Making that choice allows the energy that is building up to be used for good rather than evil. How about you? Do you allow the feeling to energize you or paralyze you? Do you allow the feeling to help you move forward or hold you back? Why not choose to use that energy to strengthen, motivate, and encourage you to do something great for God!

Last week there was the honor of senior awards and then the senior baccalaureate, yesterday was the senior parade after the last day of school and tomorrow is graduation day. So with all this excitement, I try to use it to help me make progress at work, and at home with extra family here for the celebration. The most excitement this week would have to have been celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. The week’s not over yet and so I am going to choose to harness this energy to help me focus and get stuff done in order to thrive for the glory of God! Let’s allow our faith to overpower and overwhelm our fear! Let’s allow the truth to overwhelm the lies! Let’s make today count!

THRIVE - LIVING FOR THE GLORY OF GOD

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.’

2 Timothy 3:16-17

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Just For Dads: Be A Positive Christian Role Model – Day 8

Let’s decide to make today count! Let’s decide to learn through God’s Word! Let’s decide to live our lives in a way that allows God’s Word to speak in and through our words, actions, and thoughts! Let’s decide to live our lives in a way that will allow us to thrive for the glory of God! Invite Jesus into your life! Invite Jesus into your heart! Begin to live transformed lives!

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email.

Let’s Pray!

Did you hear about that “new” thing? Do you realize how much history repeats and how not much new happens?

If it’s news does it make it new? Nope. If it is portrayed as different does it make it new? Nope? What’s new? Let’s see what the dictionary has to say:

Definition of New from Oxford Dictionary per bing.com

https://www.bing.com/search?q=define%20new&qs=n&form=QBRE&sp=-1&pq=define%20&sc=8-7&sk=&cvid=93F0577EC5CB4883B1A69FB6FFC5EEC7
Oxford Dictionary definition of New

Because it looks different the next time, it gets called new. Because it feels different the next time, it gets called new. Because it sounds different the next time, it gets called new. Because it tastes different the next time, it gets called new. Because it smells different the next time, it gets called new. But is it really new?

How do you respond to what others are considering new? How do you react to what others are considering new? Ever heard the quote about history by George Santayana?

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

George Santayana

Ever heard other similar quotes?

  • Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it. — Edmund Burke
  • Learn from history or you’re doomed to repeat it. — Jesse Ventura
  • He who doesn’t understand history is doomed to repeat it. — Pittacus Lore
  • The philosopher and historian George Santayana once remarked that those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat its mistakes. A perusal of some of the essays will reveal that this is not always true. In some cases psychologists have known about mistakes of the past and sought to repeat them. But the recurrence can sometimes be fruitful: going round in circles can be a good thing, provided the circle is large that when one returns to the task one sees it in a new light and the error brings new insights. — Noel Sheehy

So is it new or is it history? Is it a repetition because we didn’t know or is someone pulling the strings in order to force something to repeat? This past year our church went through the book of Acts and there were so many things that mirrored what is going on in society today, thousands of years later. Ever considered that there might be a book that can help you navigate through life, even if it seems new? Ever considered the information you could pull from the lessons taught through the Bible? Might you consider starting your journey into the Bible today? Consider insights like Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 which says:

‘I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good as long as they live; and also that every man should eat and drink and see and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God. ‘

Ecclesiastes 3:12-13

Consider insights like Esther 4:14 which says:

‘For if you remain silent at this time, liberation and rescue will arise for the Jews from another place, and you and your father’s house will perish [since you did not help when you had the chance]. And who knows whether you have attained royalty for such a time as this [and for this very purpose]?” ‘

Esther 4:14

Consider insights like Genesis 45:5-8 which says:

‘Now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me ahead of you to save life and preserve our family. For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are still five more years in which there will be no plowing and harvesting. God sent me [to Egypt] ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on the earth, and to keep you alive by a great escape. So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his household and ruler over all the land of Egypt. ‘

Genesis 45:5-8

Consider insights like Psalms 13:1 which says:

‘How long, O Lord ? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? ‘

Psalms 13:1

So are you ready to experience something old in a new way? Are you ready to look at something old in a new way? Are you ready for today? It’s a new day! Are you ready for today? It’s a new work week! Are you ready for today? Will look at it in a new way?

Qué Será, Será

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun.’

Ecclesiastes 1:9

Let’s take a bigger view at what Solomon is saying about life. Let’s dig a bit deeper by using the Amplified version with additional context from verses around this one.

‘The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher. “Vanity of vanities! All [that is done without God’s guidance] is vanity [futile, meaningless—a wisp of smoke, a vapor that vanishes, merely chasing the wind].” What advantage does man have from all his work Which he does under the sun (while earthbound)? One generation goes and another generation comes, But the earth remains forever. Also, the sun rises and the sun sets; And hurries to the place where it rises again. The wind blows toward the south, Then circles toward the north; The wind circles and swirls endlessly, And on its circular course the wind returns. All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, There they flow again. All things are wearisome and all words are frail; Man cannot express it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor is the ear filled with hearing. That which has been is that which will be [again], And that which has been done is that which will be done again. So there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which it can be said, “See this, it is new”? It has already existed for [the vast] ages [of time recorded or unrecorded] Which were before us. There is no remembrance of earlier things, Nor also of the later things that are to come; There will be for them no remembrance By generations who will come after them. ‘

Ecclesiastes 1:1-11

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Ever taken time to absorb the wisdom God had given to Solomon?
  • Ever taken time to consider the lessons God provides us through the wisdom He gave Solomon?
  • Ever considered the benefits of constancy in the world, the universe, and life?
  • Ever taken things for granted because of that constancy?
  • Ever taken for granted the patterns of life like days, weeks, seasons, and years?
  • Ever taken for granted directions like up, down, left, right?
  • Ever taken hold of the benefits of constancy?
  • Do you find constancy and consistency boring?
  • Do you appreciate the constancy of life as a gift from God?
  • Do you appreciate the constancy of life because it allows you to live your life without worry or fear thanks to God?
  • With things that come into our lives, have you considered how much of it remains constant?
  • Do you appreciate the stability that is life?
  • Do you appreciate the stability and constancy of life that keeps you from needing to spend too much energy on living or surviving?
  • Do you appreciate how this allows you to spend your energy on doing things that can make a difference in the lives of others?
  • Do you appreciate how this allows you to spend your energy on doing things that can care for others?
  • Do you appreciate how this allows you to spend your energy on doing things and taking risks that will allow you to accomplish greater things for God?

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • What are some things you appreciated about God’s gift of constancy?
  • How can you use the security of constancy to focus your energies on things that matter?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

Blanche McKeown

So where are you at today? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life and your heart? Let’s pray:

I come to you in prayer asking for the
forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my

Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the
Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven.
and have Eternal Life in the Kingdom of

come in to my life and be my personal
Lord and Savior. I repent of my Sins and

Renewable Energy vs Everlasting Power

What comes to mind when you think of renewable energy? Is it energy that will last forever? Is it energy that naturally replenishes itself? Is it things like sun, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat? But what happens on a cloudy day? What happens on a day when the air feels stagnant? What happens on hot overcast days? Are they renewable because of anything we do? Are they renewable because of how God created the world? So is the reality of the energy we use that they are created by God? But how long will they last? God will last forever and His power is everlasting. When the end times comes and things happen which could, would, and will probably destabilize the energy of the world, God’s everlasting power will remain. So if the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it and every type of energy we use is from God, then shouldn’t we look to be good stewards no matter if the energy is “renewable” or not? Shouldn’t we be more focused on the creator of the energy than the energy itself? Shouldn’t we be singing and praising God rather than idolizing the things He created? Do you want temporary energy or everlasting power? The choice is yours and it requires that you make a decision. As I typed the words temporary energy I thought to how our bodies respond to various stimuli like caffeine and sugar and how there can be a crash afterwards. We need to be looking to have sustainable energy to help us live out our lives to the fullest. We need to have sustainable energy to allow us to not give up when we are going through life. So let’s consider inviting Jesus into our lives and our situation because He came that we could have life and life the fullest! Let’s not look to divide and fight for that is of the devil who comes to rob, to kill, and to destroy! Will you choose the side that will last or the side that is temporary? Will you choose the side that is everlasting or the side that transient? Will you choose the side that is good or the the side that is bad? Will you choose to live life to the fullest or to be robbed, killed, and destroyed? The choice is yours! The decision is in your hands! It will determine your final destination!

The Power of the Lord

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘Be exalted, O Lord , in Your own strength! We will sing and praise Your power.’

Psalms 21:13

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • How big do you think God is? Do you realize He is larger than what you think? Do you realize that He is able to infinitely more than we could ever ask or imagine? Do you realize God is bigger than our problems?
  • God is greater and more powerful than we can imagine.
  • God is so powerful that He spoke and things happened. Remember in Genesis 1 when:
    • ‘Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day. Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the third day. Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the fourth day. Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” So the evening and the morning were the fifth day. Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.’ — Genesis 1:3-31
  • When He spoke to create the universe, we don’t even know how big that is yet, He spoke on that first day and set the universe in motion.
  • It is impossible to comprehend how big the universe it, how many stars there are out there and yet God told Abraham that his family be bigger than the number of stars in the sky.
  • Astronomers over the years have counted stars and yet the number keeps getting bigger. Ptolemy counted 1056 stars, with a 1″ telescope we can see 225,000 stars, with a 100″ telescope it increases to 1.5 billion stars, with a 200″ telescope we can see 100 billion galaxies which each have approximately 100 billion stars each. And yet God’s power is greater!
  • The number of stars seen with the 200″ telescope compares to the number of grains of sand on every shore of every beach throughout the entire world. Remember when Abraham compared the size of Abraham’s family to the number of grains of sand on the earth?
  • So with such a great and powerful God, will you trust Him?
  • With such a good and merciful God, will you trust Him?
  • Can you take a hold of how great and power, good and merciful God is in order to be able to trust Him?
  • Will you have such a great trust in God because of His greatness?
  • Will your faith be so large, so powerful, so great because of how great God is?
  • Will you trust Him with every decision?
  • Will you trust Him with every circumstance?
  • Will you trust Him with every situation?
  • Will you trust Him with every relationship?
  • Will you trust Him with your own purpose and plans?

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
How does it affect our capacity to trust God when we see Him only as a kind of superman instead of infinitely great and good?
  • If God was only superman then He wouldn’t be invincible because there would be a kryptonite to stop Him.
  • If God was only superman then He wouldn’t be able to be everywhere at the same time.
  • If God was only superman then He would be limited in time and space and not be super everywhere, superman is super because of our sun. God is super no matter what.
  • If God was only superman then He wouldn’t be good all the time.
  • God is good all the time and all the time God is good!
What aspects of your life could benefit from a refreshed trust in the God of infinite power and grace?
  • Planning
  • Parenting
  • Relationship

As one door closes and a new one is opening, how will you respond?

What have you learned? Who have you met? How has it changed things? What’s coming next? What’s needs to be transitioned? What is the new lion that is to be chased? When God brings you to it, He will get you through it!

With the change, the day to day changes as the calendar clears. With the change, the need to stay connected through the transition is important so many one on ones stay. With the change, transitioning and educating the new people will be key. With the change, getting final decisions finalized are a must.

It is almost like back to the future. Stepping into a new role being rested and energized while at the same time not fully sure what it is going to be or look like. Having the benefit of consistent leadership as a known quantity is helpful because I know that they are there because the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord.

Find out Monday – Announcements and questions on Wednesday – close out Friday.

As the sunsets on yesterday and the sun is about to rise on tomorrow, don’t lose hope because it has gotten dark but put your hope and trust in God for a new sunrise for you can always trust in God, no matter what comes your way.

July is in the rearview mirror
Hindsight is 2020! Learn from the past – the mistakes and the successes. Move forward into the future with a plan and allow God to guide your steps. July and all but 2 days of August are behind us, lets finish the year strong! Let’s get cleaned up and get things cleared up so that the runway to what is next is prepped and ready for takeoff. Let’s take hold of what is to come in order for God’s plan and God’s purpose to be accomplished through our calling.

The 49 week challenge – Day 242

Want to join me in the challenge? Click Day 242 link to join me and sign up.

The 49 week challenge has 6 days in which to notice a promise to trust, a command to obey, a truth to embrace, a warning to heed, or an encouragement to rest in and 1 day to reflect on what you’re learning and to share it with others, to think back over the week’s readings, to see connections between the various passages of the week. Each day we have time to talk to God and contemplate what is being said through His Word, and even more so on the 7th day.

How interested are you in what will happen today? How interested are you in what will be required of you today? How interested are you in what decisions you will need to make today? How interested are you in hearing from God today? How interested are you in accomplishing what God is calling you to do today? What if it were life and death decision? What if it were everlasting life and everlasting death decision? What if the decision that you make today will determine how you will spend the rest of eternity? Would it make a difference?

If you are interested in getting together or sharing the information together, please let me know through the comment section below, through email, or even through text messages.

Today’s reading from
God’s Word – the Bible
comes to us from:

My Notes:

  • We always have something to be thankful for
  • Will you live by the faith of what is stored up for you in heaven?
  • Do you understand or want to understand the grace of God?
  • Do you want to live with the love of the Spirit so you can live a life worth living, growing in knowledge of God, and so it gives you endurance and patience?
  • We have been rescued from the dominion of darkness!
  • The Son is the image of the invisible God!
  • Through Him all things were created and for Him!
  • He is the head of the body of the church – He is first!
  • Through Jesus we are or can be reconciled to God!
  • Through Jesus we are forgiven
  • We need to stand firm in the faith and the hope that comes in and through Jesus!
  • Christ in you, the hope of glory!
  • God can vindicate you and rescue you
  • God is our stronghold
  • Don’t lose hope when you face troubles but instead put your hope in God and take heart for Jesus has overcome the world.
  • Don’t be in despair when you face trials of many kinds but instead consider it pure joy because the testing of our faith produces perseverance. When we let perseverance finish its work it makes it so that we will be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
  • Jesus is the warrior who completes God’s plan, purpose, and the law
  • Let’s choose to follow Jesus and build a relationship with Him so that in the end we will spend eternity with God
  • God so loves us that He gave His one and only Son Jesus that by receiving the gift of grace that is Jesus will save us. He didn’t send Jesus to condemn the world but rather that through Him we can be saved!
  • Will you seek wisdom?
  • Will you invite the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, direct, instruct you in all your ways?
  • Will you allow the Holy Spirit to give you peace that surpasses all understanding?
  • Will you allow the Holy Spirit to direct your path in all the plans you have?
  • Will you come as a servant leader, someone who is going to serve all those God brings into your life?
  • Will you come with humility? Will you come seeking wisdom?
  • We don’t know it all and so we need God! We need the Holy Spirit to speak truth in love so that we too can respond with truth in love to those who ask us for help or challenge us.
  • Trust in God! Above all things trust the God!
  • Every good and perfect gift comes from the Lord!

As day 242 begins, I would hate to miss giving the opportunity to anyone who hasn’t received Jesus into their lives as their Lord and Savior an opportunity to make the decision today and the blessing to get to live out the rest of the year in that power and that truth and that hope.

If you would like to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, why not join me in this prayer?

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven. At this moment I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Father, I take you at your word. I thank you that I can face death now that you are my Savior. Thank you for the assurance that you will walk with me through the deep valley. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Would you be willing to leave me a comment
so that I can pray with and for you about such an incredible decision?
Or if you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment on my blog,
why not email or text me instead?

Have your life been activated, energized, and expressed? Are you working in LOVE?

Galatians 5:6

6 For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith activated and energized and expressed and working through love.

We are saved by faith, not by deeds. But love for others and for God is the response of those whom God has forgiven. God’s forgiveness is complete, and Jesus said that those who are forgiven much love much. Because faith expresses itself through love, you can check your love for others as a way to monitor your faith.

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this new day and for all that is within it. I thank You Lord for the conversations and experiences that You provided throughout my day and the incredible blessings I was able to be a part of. I thank You Lord for the high ending to my day that strengthened and encouraged me as my work day came to an end. I thank You Lord for my family and friends. Lord, help me Lord in every situation, in every encounter, in every meeting that You would allow me to do what I do in LOVE. Nothing should be done that will tear down, but to lift up. Nothing should be done to discourage, but to encourage. Help me to be one who motivates, lifts up, shares, brings hope and courage and let it all be grounded in LOVE. Lord, I look at your example and in all I do I try to serve others. I look to You Lord as my rock – the strong foundation that I am able to build my life on as You have been here since the beginning of time and will be here for eternity. A rock that can’t be shaken or eroded away. Lord, there is no one like You. You are awesome and I praise You for Your Word that is alive and speaks into my life daily. I thank You for the New Testament that shares the incredible truths of Jesus and for the Old Testaments that provide light into the foreshadowing of what Jesus was to do and how He was the completion.  Thank You Lord. May this day bring You praise, honor, and glory in all I say and do, think and consider, in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
