THRIVE: Let’s do it!

After nearly 3 years between covid years where things were canceled in many cases, and modified in other cases, this year we get to do it! This year we get to be filled up and pour out our lives for the good of others and the glory of God! There are many who may try to manipulate through fear, worry, anxiety, and doubt but that’s not what or how God wants it! Today, let’s choose to live our lives in alignment with God’s plan to give us hope and a future! Let’s choose to live our lives in a way where we live life to the full! Let’s cast our care and anxieties on God because He cares for us! Let’s consider it pure joy when we face trials allowing perseverance to complete its work so that we can be complete and lacking nothing! Let’s live out today humbly trusting that God will lift us up in His due time! It’s time! Let’s do it!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. ‘

Prayer Of Salvation
"Oh Father God, I believe with all of my heart that Jesus died on the cross for my sake and has risen from the dead. Lord, I receive Your Word and I repent of my sins. I renounce the past. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. I receive my forgiveness. I receive the new birth, cleansed and washed in the Word and in the precious blood of Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit, in Jesus' name. Amen."

THRIVE: Even with everything that’s taken place, until it is over there is still more to do.

If you are reading this then you are here and as such you have things to do and get done. This is the day that the Lord has made and so let’s rejoice and be glad in it! God has prepared in advance good works for us to accomplish today and it is up to get it done! So let’s be about the work of the Father and getting done those good works! Let’s focus on the things He has for us to get done today including making plans for what is next. Let’s not try to go it alone but instead choose to work on things together! We were never meant to go it alone and hence why God gave us one another! We were never meant to go it alone and hence why God sent the Holy Spirit! God cares too much to leave us on our own and promises to never leave us nor forsake/abandon us! So today let’s make sure we lean into God and cast all our cares upon Him because He cares for us! Let’s choose to listen to the prompting and directing of the Holy Spirit in order to be able to accomplish all that God has planned for us! Let’s remember God’s plans for us are for good and not for evil, they are to give us hope and a future! Yes, in this world we will have troubles but we don’t have to worry or mope about it because we know that Jesus overcame the world! Yes in this world we will face trials too but don’t fret or worry about that because we know that we should consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because we know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. We know that when we let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. So today, let us choose to lean in on God and trust Him, pursuing His plans, His purposes, and His calling on our lives!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. ‘

1 Chronicles 16:34

THRIVE: It’s that time of the week and the hump in the week is feeling steeper, so let’s dig deeper in order to use it as a ramp to get us farther!

Can you believe it is the middle of the week again? Where does the time go? Yesterday my son finished his first year of high school and today my younger daughter finishes her senior year of classes. Today is the first day of the second 25 years of marriage as we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary yesterday. And there is still so much to get done. So today the focus is on accelerating up the hill, over the hump in order to use it as a ramp for getting more done and landing further ahead. It’s time to make it happen, no excuses, no delays, just get it done! As Knight Rider would say “turbo boost K.I.T.T.”.

It’s time to get ahead and get it done so we can be prepared. So let’s make today count! Let’s grab hold of what the definition of thrive really is:

Definition of thrive
intransitive verb
1: to grow vigorously : FLOURISH
2: to gain in wealth or possessions : PROSPER
3: to progress toward or realize a goal despite or because of circumstances -- often used with on // thrives on conflict

So today, let’s choose to thrive for the glory of God!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. ‘

1 Peter 5:6

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Just For Dads: Be A Positive Christian Role Model – Day 7

Let’s choose to live our lives humbly submitted to God! Let’s choose to live our lives with humility and allow God to lift us up at the right time rather than walking around with pride and arrogance and being brought down! Let’s ask Jesus into our hearts in order to receive a new heart and be able to live our lives in alignment and in relationship with God! Could today be your day for this new beginning? Could today be your day to live differently? Invite Jesus into your heart! Invite Jesus into your life and situation! Pursue Him with all you have and see God’s hand lead and guide you beyond anything you could ever ask or imagine!

THRIVE: Let’s get it done!

As I wake up this morning I see a list of todos in front of me with excitement and energy. As I look ahead and see how busy work is and how busy life is I am excited to see God’s hand at work across all the areas of my life. Be it work with planning and preparing, meeting and learning, driving and executing. Be it life with training plans, camp plans, college plans, family plans, travel plans, and graduation plans. Both are busy and as I like to joke with people it helps me stay balanced. So as we get today going, let’s be focused, putting first things first, seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness so that we can get it done in alignment and accordance with His perfect will and plan and purpose for our lives and allow God to help carry the load and get it done for His glory!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. ‘

Proverbs 18:21

Are you ready to go beyond just being a hearer of the Word to being a doer for the Word? Are you ready to get your to-dos into to-dones? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your situation and ask Him for wisdom to help you live your life to the full as He desires? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and allow Him to lead and guide you through your day?

THRIVE: It’s time to get things started…

Let’s be people who live authentic lives and don’t try to make decisions or choices for others. Why should you limit them by thinking they will say no rather than hopefully thinking they will say yes? Why would you limit them because of your own doubts or fears? Why not share what God is and has done in and through your life rather than allow others to make the decision for themselves if they want to start their own personal relationship with God or not! It’s the beginning of a new workweek and this one feels different. It’s the beginning of a new workweek and it feels like wrapping up in some ways and getting started in others. So I give this day into God’s hands and ask Him to provide me the wisdom and discernment I will need to make it through this day. I give this day into God’s hands and ask Him to provide the protection and health I will need to make it through this day. This is the day that the Lord has made so I will rejoice and be glad in it! I will lean on God more than my own understanding! I will acknowledge God so that He can make my path straight! Thank You Jesus for not leaving me wondering but rather answering my prayer and making the decision clear. Thank You, Lord, for helping me to be able to evaluate and move forward in alignment with Your direction. You are amazing Lord and I am so excited for what is yet to come while at the same time looking to make the most of today which is the present, a gift from You. Help me Lord to live out my today in a way that will bring You the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’s name. Help me Lord to live out my today accomplishing the good works You have prepared in advance for me to do so that when I get them done people will see the good works and give the praise, the honor, and the glory to You, praising my Heavenly Father!

Verse of the Day:

‘One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. ‘

Psalms 27:4

Today’s post from Be The Dads is A Father’s Legacy – Day 5

So are you ready for this day? Are you ready to find your purpose? Are you ready to find your calling? Are you ready to live out your today for the glory of God? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life and ask Him for wisdom and discernment? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life and ask Him for direction and purpose? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life so that you can be filled with His Spirit and overflow into the world around you? Are you wondering or wanting to have Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

Let’s Pray!

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven. At this moment I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Father, I take you at your word. I thank you that I can face death now that you are my Savior. Thank you for the assurance that you will walk with me through the deep valley. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

THRIVE: Choose to get started today!

This is the day that the Lord has made, so let us rejoice and be glad in it! Let’s not be paralyzed by fear of the future but instead let’s make the most of our today! Let’s keep focused on what we can do today because tomorrow is not promised! Let’s focus on today rather than worrying about tomorrow because tomorrow will have enough to worry about! So let’s choose to start thriving today! How about physically? Let’s start our workout routine we have stopped and been putting off! How out spiritually? Let’s start a bible reading routine so we can dig deeper into scripture and understand God’s Word and His Word for us today! How about mentally? Let’s look into what we need to know, to learn, to be ready and grow! How about emotionally? Let’s take inventory of the things that will help us grow and flourish emotionally! In the midst of all of this let’s combine them in a way that will help us to take new ground in spite of or because of our current circumstances around us!

TODAY! This is the day the Lord has made! Let’s work as unto the Lord! Let’s be good stewards! Let’s lean in on God because we can trust Him and we know that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it! Let’s persevere no matter what obstacles get in front of us, no matter what struggles we are facing, no matter what trials we must walkthrough, and no matter what troubles come our way because we know that Jesus is with us and that we can take heart because Jesus has overcome the world! Let’s choose unity over self and walk it out at the speed of health so that the relationships will end up better and stronger than ever before!

Happy Today!!
Be sensitive to the Spirit, so you can walk out today with wisdom and discernment!
So happy today... no special reason... I just choose to be.
Happy Today!
Assumption 1: You are alive
Assumption 2: No matter what happens
For all Todays = Happy!!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’

Matthew 6:34

Today’s post from Be The Dads is The Way of the Father: Lessons From My Dad, Truths About God – 5

We have been created on purpose, with purpose, and for a purpose! We have been uniquely created for this life and we get to choose if we will answer the call and be who God created us to be! We need to answer the call in order to thrive for the glory of God! Are you ready? Have you asked God about why He created you? Have you asked God why He created you with the gifts, skills, and talents He has given you? Have you asked God what He wants you to do? Are you ready to find out? Would you consider digging into God’s Word? Would you consider going through a book like The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren? Would you consider going through a book like The Cause within You: Finding the One Great Thing God Created You to Do in This World by Matthew Barnett. Why not get your journey started by inviting Jesus into your heart? Why not get started with allowing the Holy Spirit to be your comforter and your guide? Why not get started today?

THRIVE: When you don’t know what to do, do what you know to do.

When things don’t seem clear and you aren’t sure what to do, do what you know to do. God has given you directions so do that. God has given you wisdom so do that. God has given you hope so do that. God has a plan so do that. God has a purpose so do that. And in God’s timing, which is perfect, you will know what to do and then you can step up, step out, and do it. Be it at work! Be it at home! Be it somewhere in between! Let’s capture what God has for us to do today in the midst of the world being shaken and do it! Let’s capture what God has for us to do today so that we are doing the right things when the only thing left is unshakable and do it!

For me, that means I get to be the dad my wife needs me to be. For me, that means I get to be the dad my kids need me to be. For me, that means I get to focus on preparing for what is yet to come like scripts, decks, and videos that speak to men, youth, and kids about the importance and the responsibility of being the dads this world needs.

Verse of the Day:

‘Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. ‘

1 John 3:18

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Killing Sin – Day 2

Where are you today? Are you ready to lean in on God to be able to do what you know to do in the midst of uncertain times? Are you ready to lean in on God to be able to do what you know to do in the midst of shaky times? Are you not sure what to do? Are you not sure how to do it? The answer is to turn back to God and lean in on Him for wisdom and discernment, direction and instruction, so that in everything you do He will receive the praise, the honor, and the glory and it will be for your good.

In Jesus' name.
Amen.

THRIVE: Workweek is over and still decisions to be made…

Let us take hold of the reality of what we have learned through the book of Exodus when it comes to THRIVING and allow God’s Word to help us as we look ahead and into the future of this life. We learned about risk-taking, getting out of the boat, and allowing God to do new things in our lives, God answers prayer, and God is near to His people. We learned that God’s deepest work can come out through our trials, troubles, and pain. We learned how we are closer to a breakthrough than we think even during what we are going through. Just like the turbulence right before breaking through the sound barrier, life can get bumpy right before the breakthrough. During the struggle, we need to trust God and His choice of us for this calling and purpose rather than thinking we are the wrong choice. We need to trust God even when we do not understand. We need to keep turning to God when we do not know what to do or where to go. We need to fight our way through the pain, fear, and unbelief. God is in control! Do not give up! Lean in, kneel, and call out to God. We have learned the importance of picking our battles. We need to choose to fight the fight of trust – that God is good even when our circumstances are not. We need to choose to fight the fight of perseverance – to keep going and not quit (do not give in to the doubts and fears the devil is trying to use to get you to quit). We need to choose to fight the fight for unity – to move forward at the speed of health. We learned the why! It is important to know why! Why did God put Egypt through the plagues? Because He wanted to answer Pharoah’s question “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.” Egypt had a god for everything, and the plagues demonstrated that God was over and of them because they were not real gods. We need to understand WHY. Could simplification be the answer? What does that say and what does that mean for and to you? We learned the importance of leaving the things behind us to move forward to the things God has for us. We learned the importance of leaving the mistakes and trials of the past behind us. We learned the need to let go of the struggles and pains of the past. We learned the importance to instruct our kids. We learned God is so for you – taking you right where you are and leading you into a new beginning. We cannot get stuck in the past and not step up and step out into what God has planned for us. We need to do what we have to do to get where God needs us to be. We learned that we need to wake up to the reality of what is taking place instead of getting stuck we need to act. We need to pray and call on God rather than absorbing or accepting failure around us. We need to be able to accept success and breakthroughs when it is right in front of us. We cannot allow the fear of the unknown or the future to become our master again. We learned how we must let God make the change and take hold of the reality that God is able to exceedingly, abundantly more than you can ask or imagine. We learned how God wants to forgive you so much He came after you. He did all the work himself. Just needed to accept the gift. Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved. We learned how God gave the cloud and the fire to comfort them. Do not let your heart be troubled. God has a change and a new way for you. God will stand between you and the enemy. We learned how today by faith in Christ you can be forgiven and start the journey with Him. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He will lead you and guide you. He will come behind you to watch your back. We learned that we need to do what God is telling us to do. We need to stop going backward. We need to stop surrendering when we are on the verge of a breakthrough. Start moving towards what God is calling you to. Dare to sow, to pray, to give your best. The things you can do so do it. We learned how God had the wind stack up the water into walls and dried the ground. Let us keep our eyes on the Lord and keep moving towards what He is showing us and telling us. Pharaoh woke up to a supply chain issue – he questioned why he let them go and just because one day their eyes may be opened to the reality of the situation, it does not mean that we should not be moving forward into the promised land and glory had prepared in advance for us to step into. God does not send you to hell, He opened the door to forgiveness and heaven, and we need to choose the final destination. You are the only one who can keep you from eternal life with God and forgiveness.

So, what is next for you? What will you decide? Are you ready to accept the change and move from surviving into thriving? Are you ready to receive what God has prepared in advance for you to do. Are you ready to accomplish the good works God has prepared in advance for you to do. Will you accept the calling? Will you step up and step out for the glory of God? The choice is yours! We have freewill and we can choose to be used by God or to abdicate our responsibility and calling. Remember the story of Esther and how she was called to save her people? Remember the story of when the people were praising Jesus and when told to tell them to stop, He answered that if they stopped the rocks would cry out

Where will you turn for wisdom and advice? What will you do about the answer you receive? Will you go? Will you do it? Will you trust Him? Let’s give it up to God! Let’s go to Him for wisdom and advice! Let’s be obedient to His instruction and go do it!

THRIVE: Do what you know to do when you don’t know what to do. Finish strong!

I am so grateful for a loving and caring God. I am so thankful that He knows what I need even before I can ask. I am so thankful that He loves me so much that He gave me His Word. I am so thankful that He loves me so much that He gave His one and only Son. I am so thankful that He loves me so much that He doesn’t want me to go it alone and so He not only give me one another but also His Holy Spirit to be my comforter and my guide. So, what to do when you don’t know what to do? You do what you know how to do and turn to God and ask for His wisdom and discernment, for His leading and guiding, so that you can move forward for the glory of His kingdom.

Can you believe it is the end of the workweek already? Let’s finish the week strong! Let’s give our day into God’s hand to help us navigate not only the information that will come our way but also the time we spend today with others, on projects, etc. Let’s choose to live today in a way that will glorify God! Let’s trust God knowing that whatever is going on it will be for His glory and our good! Let’s persevere as we move forward not giving up and not giving in to the lies or tricks of the devil. Let’s work for unity in health so that in and through it all God will be lifted up and glorified and others will see it and glorify our Father in heaven.

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. ‘

John 14:26

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Father Like The Father – Day 2

So are you ready to finish the week strong? Are you looking to figure out what to do? Are there many open questions? Is there uncertainty taking place? Let’s lean in on God! Let’s trust in God! Let’s not think we can figure it all out but instead turn to God and ask the Holy Spirit to help us! Let’s invite God into our life situation.

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email or text.

Let’s Read the Bible Together (February)

THRIVE: What to do when you don’t know what to do?

The short answer is: Do what you know to do.

Today, as I enjoy the weekend with my family the workweek, has finished and yet the news/answers didn’t come. So what is going to happen? Don’t know! What will we do? Don’t know! Where will we be? Don’t know! But I do know what my team does and so we will keep doing that to the best of our abilities in order to not only support the various teams across the company but also produce the best-localized content we can for our customers, shoppers, and visitors.

So are you having to deal with unknowns? Are you having to deal with uncertainties? Are you having to deal with changes? Are you having to deal with obstacles? Are you having to deal lack of clarity? Are you having to deal with a lack of direction? So what are you going to do?

Do what you know how to do! Invite God into the situation and do what you know how to do!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. ‘

Proverbs 13:20

Today’s post from Be The Dads is The Daring Dad – Day 1.

So what are you dealing with today? Is God your go-to? Is God where you turn when you are facing uncertain times? Is God where you turn when you are facing challenging times? Is God where you turn when you are facing change? Are you ready to open that door to start a conversation and relationship with God so that not only can you be engaged to the world but allow God to engage with you in the midst of the trials, the troubles, the challenges, and the change? Let’s invite Jesus into our situation and walk it out with Him! God doesn’t want us to leave Him out of it but rather He desires to be with us, He is going before us, He is walking with us, He will never leave us nor forsake us, and so we just need to invite Him.

Let’s Pray!

Dear God
I admit I am a sinner and need your forgiveness; I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place paying the penalty for my sins. I am willing right now to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord. I commit myself to you and ask you to send the Holy Spirit into my life, to fill me and take control, and to help me become the kind of person you want me to be. Thank You Father for loving me. Today’s Reading from God’s Word:

Let’s not grow weary in doing good!

Ever found how life can get busy? Ever found how your emotions can get in the way of moving forward? Ever found that you can get tired while doing good? Ever found that you can get discouraged if you aren’t seeing fruit from doing good? Ever found that others may say or do things to try and get you to stop doing good? Let’s consider what God’s Word says about doing good and plant our feet on that.

It is interesting the number of posts I found about the Bible verses on “doing good” like:

Let’s start with the one that motivated my title today and check out a few others too:

  • And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. — Galatians 6:9
  • Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. — Psalm 37:3
  • In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. — Matthew 5:16
  • For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. — Ephesians 2:10
  • What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. — James 2:14-17
  • So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. — James 4:17
  • So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. — Galatians 6:10
  • As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good. — 2 Thessalonians 3:13
  • Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. — Hebrews 13:16

So as you go out today, how much of what you think, say, and do is in your control? Well, God’s Word tells us that in as much as we have the opportunity, let us do good to everyone! So are you ready or getting prepared for this new day so that in every opportunity you will do good to everyone? Will it be easy? Nope, but nobody ever said life would be easy, but Jesus did say it would be worth it. Will we face troubles that try to hold us back and stop us from doing good? Jesus tells us that in this world we will have troubles but that we can take heart because He has overcome the world! Will we have trials to deal with and that will try to stop us from moving forward and doing good? God’s Word tells us to consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kinds because we know that the testing of our faith produces perseverance and that when perseverance has completed its work we will be mature, complete, and lacking nothing! So be it trouble that tries to knock you off track and keep you from doing good or a trial that tries to keep you from keeping that can do good attitude, don’t lose hope but instead put your trust in Jesus and persevere so that in and through it all we can do good that will bring praise, honor, and glory to God!

This is the day that the Lord has made, so let’s rejoice and be glad in it! Let’s do it! (it = good)

Get Busy

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.’

Titus 3:8

Let’s try to grab some additional context by starting at the beginning of this chapter and using the Amplified version for some additional insights:

‘Remind people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready and willing to do good, to slander or abuse no one, to be kind and conciliatory and gentle, showing unqualified consideration and courtesy toward everyone. For we too once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various sinful desires and pleasures, spending and wasting our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. But when the goodness and kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared [in human form as the Man, Jesus Christ], He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we have done, but because of His own compassion and mercy, by the cleansing of the new birth (spiritual transformation, regeneration) and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out richly upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that we would be justified [made free of the guilt of sin] by His [compassionate, undeserved] grace, and that we would be [acknowledged as acceptable to Him and] made heirs of eternal life [actually experiencing it] according to our hope (His guarantee). This is a faithful and trustworthy saying; and concerning these things I want you to speak with great confidence, so that those who have believed God [that is, those who have trusted in, relied on, and accepted Christ Jesus as Savior,] will be careful to participate in doing good and honorable things. These things are excellent [in themselves] and profitable for the people. But avoid foolish and ill-informed and stupid controversies and genealogies and dissensions and quarrels about the Law, for they are unprofitable and useless. After a first and second warning reject a divisive man [who promotes heresy and causes dissension—ban him from your fellowship and have nothing more to do with him], well aware that such a person is twisted and is sinning; he is convicted and self-condemned [and is gratified by causing confusion among believers]. ‘

Titus 3:1-11

Feelings follow actions. So when you don’t really want to or feel like doing what needs to be done – do it and then you will feel like doing it.

Zig Ziglar

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you today? Are you ready to be doing good? Are you ready to do good even when you don’t feel like it? Are you ready to do good even when you are facing trials or troubles? Are you ready to do good whenever you get the opportunity? Are you ready to do good in every opportunity for everyone? Let’s be doers of the Word! Need some help? Why not invite God into the situation? Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father
I come to you in prayer asking for the
forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my
mouth and believe with my heart that
Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the
Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven.

Do you realize the similarity of response between when God calls and Nike?

When calls you to something you should just do it. When God calls you to do something you should just do it. I know from my own experiences that isn’t always an easy task because the call may not be easy to do. I know from my own experiences that if God calls you to it and you don’t think you are qualified to do it, you should trust God and just do it as I have learned God doesn’t call the qualified but He qualifies the called. I know from my own experiences that if God asks you to do it then it is for your good and His glory! So like the Nike slogan, when God calls you to do something, you should just do it. I remember resisting and coming up with so many reason why I shouldn’t and couldn’t because I wasn’t qualified and it took an ultimatum from God (“you will be president or nothing, you choose!”) for me to accept it, whereas I could have started earlier and avoided the back and forth on the subject. So are you ready to be what God created you to be? Are you ready to do what God is calling you to do? Are you ready to fulfill the purpose God created you for? The choice is yours! He won’t force you to do it! Are you ready and willing to just do it if God calls you to it? What if it were to begin by helping someone who is poor? who is in need? who is needing a hand up? What if God prompts you today on your journey to help, will you just do it?

What goes around comes around

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY: Psalms 41:1

‘Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.’

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Ever heard of “the law of the harvest“?
  • Ever heard of the saying “what goes around comes around”?
  • Ever heard of the saying “you reap what you sow”?
  • Ever seen it happen when you get angry or frustrated and snap at people and then they snap back?
  • Ever seen it happen when you come to the help of someone in need who later is able to come and help you?
  • Consider what today’s verse says and how by doing something for someone who would be unable to pay you back will have God looking to help you out.
  • Imagine the blessings of God because we were generous to that person on the corner in need, that family with bills pilling up in need, helping someone who is unable to reciprocate but is in need.
  • God sees what we do, even when nobody else does and when we do what He asks, He blesses that and multiplies both the blessing to the others and the blessing over our lives.
  • Remember what Jesus said on this topic in Luke 14?
    • ‘ Jesus also said to the man who had invited Him, When you give a dinner or a supper, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, lest perhaps they also invite you in return, and so you are paid back. But when you give a banquet or a reception, invite the poor, the disabled, the lame, and the blind. Then you will be blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied), because they have no way of repaying you, and you will be recompensed at the resurrection of the just (upright).’ — Luke 14:12-14
  • God loves it when we give to those who are unable to pay us back!
  • Let’s be aware of those around us!
  • Let’s be aware of those in need!
  • Don’t be so sheltered that you can’t help!
  • Don’t be so sheltered that you would mock them!
  • Let’s see them through God’s eyes and respond how God asks of us in the moment!
  • Let’s consider their circumstances so that we can truly care for them!
  • Let’s care enough to do something!
  • When God calls you, just do it!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
Consider the poor. Who are they? What are their lives like?
  • Moms, Dads, Kids
  • Families
  • Homeless
  • Unemployed
  • Living in tents, under bridges, in the woods, in their cars
What is one thing you can do to care for one of them?
  • Stop, talk, and give
  • Find an organization that focuses on them who can help with their needs (like Union Gospel Mission)
  • Find an organization that focuses on meeting their needs locally and then around around the world.

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

God’s boomerang of blessing occurs when we do something for someone else who can do absolutely nothing for us in return.”

Ike Reighard

Are you ready to just do it? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and your life to be your Lord and Savior? Are you ready to be transformed from the inside out for the glory of God?

Where are you at today? Are you looking for guidance? Are you wondering where to turn? Are you at the end of your rope and needing help? Are you ready for some help? Are you ready to turn to God and ask? seek? knock? Let’s pray together

Do you know what to stop? Do you know what to avoid?

As I was starting my day the verse of the day jumped out at me with an interesting statement. I started with 6 things God hates and 7 that He detests. It brought to mind what things are being done that should be stopped? It also brought to mind what things are being done that should be avoided. After the last couple of days speaking to what we need and should be doing all founded on love, it was interesting to me to read today’s verse of the day. If we just love God and love people, we won’t find ourselves doing what God hates nor what He detests. So as we consider the DOs and how we can live out our lives with AGAPE or UNCONDITIONAL love and live our lives loving our neighbors as ourselves and as we learn through the story of the Good Samaritan – it means we need to love everyone! God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to give His life once for all in order to make a way to pay for our rebellion and rejection, put another way out sin, so that we can and are able to turn back to God and receive forgiveness, put another way repent of our wicked ways and be forgiven. And yet, here we are today and loving everyone isn’t the way the world is moving forward. It isn’t fake love but unconditional love that we are to be living. We are to be living AGAPE love not just PHILEO or EROS type of love which are temporary or can sway or change over time. AGAPE is something where even if you don’t like someone, you can still love them. You wouldn’t have PHILEO love nor EROS love for someone you don’t like. So today, let’s get our day started with and in love!

Today’s reading from God’s Word comes from the book of Proverbs:

‘ These six things the Lord hates, indeed, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look [the spirit that makes one overestimate himself and underestimate others], a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, [Ps. 120:2, 3.] A heart that manufactures wicked thoughts and plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who breathes out lies [even under oath], and he who sows discord among his brethren.’
Proverbs 6:16-19

So first let’s look to remove pride for we know that pride comes before the fall. Let’s eliminate the spirit that makes us overestimate ourselves and underestimate others. Second, let’s be truth seekers and truth tellers and remove a lying tongue. Third, let’s be justice and righteous and stop causing or instigating or creating situation that will cause the shedding of innocent blood. Forth, let’s bring our minds under the blood of Jesus and the Holy Spirit to help us purify and sanctify and cleanse our minds, taking captive every thought and making it obedient to Christ so as to stop the creation and the speaking and the acting of manufactured wicked thoughts and plans. Fifth, let’s turn back to God, let’s turn from wickedness and evil, let’s humble ourselves keeping our feet from running to evil and getting tripped up by the lies of the devil who is trying to rob, kill, and destroy us. Sixth, we need to be seeking truth and justice, keeping ourselves from making up stories and being false witnesses or gossips. Seventh, let’s be people who live their lives to produce love, hope, truth, and unity, people who are trying to draw people together and towards God by the words we speak, the thoughts we think, and the way we live our lives keeping from sowing discord among others.

Are you with me? Are you willing to try and be doers of God’s Word? Are you willing to be ambassadors of peace? Are you willing to be salt and light? Are you willing to lead with love even when it is hard and you may not be in agreement with others? Will you put God first, loving God? Will you put people second, loving your neighbor as yourself? Just these two love commands will make such an impact to the world around you for the glory of God, in Jesus’ name.

Let’s choose the way that leads to life! Let’s choose to live our lives in a way that produces good fruit! Let’s choose to live in a way that will produce life!

With September in the rearview mirror how will you live out your today?
With September in the rearview mirror how will you live out your today? Another work week complete. Less than a week away from a new year beginning. Taking record of the lessons learned this year and how to use them to improve the year ahead that will start in a week. They say hindsight is 2020, let’s learn from it and not repeat the mistake nor increase the pain, let’s choose to be salt and light, being good stewards, and producing good fruits by the Spirit of God!

The 49 week challenge
Day 298

Want to join me in the challenge? Click Day 298 link to join me and sign up. It is never too late. The 49 week challenge has 6 days in which to notice a promise to trust, a command to obey, a truth to embrace, a warning to heed, or an encouragement to rest in and 1 day to reflect on what you’re learning and to share it with others, to think back over the week’s readings, to see connections between the various passages of the week. Each day we have time to talk to God and contemplate what is being said through His Word, and even more so on the 7th day.

How interested are you in what will happen today? How interested are you in what will be required of you today? How interested are you in what decisions you will need to make today? How interested are you in hearing from God today? How interested are you in accomplishing what God is calling you to do today? What if it were life and death decision? What if it were everlasting life and everlasting death decision? What if the decision that you make today will determine how you will spend the rest of eternity? Would it make a difference?

If you are interested in getting together or sharing the information together, please let me know through the comment section below, through email, or even through text messages.

Today’s reading
from GOD’S WORD–THE BIBLE:

My Notes:

  • Consider all that we have to be thankful for
  • Remember your calling
  • Remember the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline
  • Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
  • Be strong in grace
  • Entrust to reliable people who will teach others
  • Let’s live according to the rules
  • Let’s endure for Jesus!
  • Let’s be faithful to God!
  • Let’s be a worker who handles the word of truth
  • Let’s build our lives on God’s solid foundation!
  • Let’s decide to invite Jesus into our hearts and become His
  • Let’s be useful to God and be ready to do the good work He prepares in advance for us to accomplish.
  • Do not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.
  • Don’t be a gossip or troublemaker
  • Don’t be grumblers against God
  • Don’t be a grumbler against God’s plan and will
  • What would it take to get your attention? How severely would it have to be? Would it require the ground swallowing it or you up? Would it require a plague?
  • How long does it take for you to forget what God has done and you start grumbling?
  • God can take what the enemy meant for evil and turn it around and use it for good.
  • Don’t lose hope or faith in the midst of trials and troubles. Trust in God!
  • Remember the experiences of the past, the trials and troubles, and how God used it and turned it around for His glory and promised you Job 42:12
  • Lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge God who will make your path straight!

As day 298 begins, I would hate to miss giving the opportunity to anyone who hasn’t received Jesus into their lives as their Lord and Savior an opportunity to make the decision today and the blessing to get to live out the rest of the year in that power and that truth and that hope.

If you would like to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, why not join me in this prayer?

How to know when to go and when to stay, what to do and not do…

Over the years, I have learned how trying to force the decision rather than waiting for the answer never helps. I have also learned that trying to delay action after the decision has been communicated also causes complications. Be it when I was in a position where I was called to a higher role and delayed or argued the decision. Be it when I was in a rough situation at work and didn’t know what to do and then received the message to get out of the boat. Going along with God’s Word and God’s plan is always the right thing to do. Waiting on the Lord for Him to say “Go” or to say “Do” is always the right things.

Ever had a crazy year where you keep seeing things that don’t make sense? Ever had a crazy year where there was so much turmoil, trouble, challenge, and change? Ever had a crazy year where you were taken away from your comfort zone into a place of isolation, and then to add on it you were then put in a place that was even more isolating?

2020 has been such a year for me. I have leaned in on God because that is where my hope comes from. I have leaned in on God because that is where my help comes from. I have leaned in on God rather than my own understanding because my trust is in Him.

In a conversation yesterday, I said something to speak over a friend’s life and realized God was using it to help me stand firm and stand strong in the midst of the trials and the troubles. It took an act of God to bring me to this place and it will take an act of God for me to consider leaving it. It is almost the opposite statement that I give as an answer to people who ask me if I would ever go back to the previous company where I tell them I never say no but instead I say “it took an act of God to get me to leave the company and it will take an act of God to send me back to it”.

“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.”

In a time away you can learn what things are really most important in life. In a time away you cam evaluation your priorities and make sure that you are living your life in alignment with your true priorities. I remember way back when I had come to that junction in the road of needing to decide what my priority list was and how my life was showing or not showing that reality. Ever considered what your top 5 list looks like? Ever considered if you looked at how you spend your money and your time if they would agree with what you believe your top 5 list looks like? Imagine a list like this, and if we fill in the first 3 alone which can be challenging enough, what would you put in 4 and 5?

Sample Priority List:

  1. God
  2. Wife and Marriage
  3. Kids and Family
  4. ____________________
  5. ____________________

And then reflecting on this list, if an auditor came and reviewed your calendar and your bank account, would they find that you are living your life in alignment with your priorities?

COVID generated more family time and more alone time – did you learn anything from it? Are there any lessons learned that you will keep post COVID? Family dinners? Family Sunday brunches? Couple prayer time?

Let’s not just be stuck in the bad or the negative or the challenging parts but let’s also remember the positive, the good, and the opportunities parts too.

With September in the rearview mirror how will you live out your today?
With September in the rearview mirror how will you live out your today? What have you learned through 2020 and be able to put into practice going forward? They say hindsight is 2020, but let’s not get stuck looking in the rearview mirror and allow the present to become blurry and confusing. Let’s take those lessons and apply them in order to produce a hope and a future that God has prepared in advance for us to live. Let’s take those lessons and apply them in a way that will make our todays better than our yesterdays. Let’s take the lessons in order to make our vision for the future clearer.

Before jumping into today’s reading, let’s take a look at the verse of the day from the Bible App to see what it has to say:

‘ He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble yourself and walk humbly with your God? [Deut. 10:12, 13.]’

Micah 6:8

We see that in the Amplified version of the Bible, it calls out Deuteronomy 10:12-13 which says:

‘ And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you but [reverently] to fear the Lord your God, [that is] to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your [mind and] heart and with your entire being, To keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good?’

Deuteronomy 10:12-13

So as we prepare ourselves for today, let’s take hold of God’s Word and what it says to us and about us when it comes to living this life we have been given. God’s plan for us is for good and not for evil, it is to give us a hope and a future. God is good, all the time! All the time, God is good! God is love and we find the definition of live in 1 Corinthians 13! Let’s receive God’s instruction and direction in order to live out our today the right way.

Today’s reading from GOD’S WORD – THE BIBLE comes to us from:

My Notes:

  • Hebrews 9:4-5
    • ‘which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. Above the ark were the cherubim of the Glory, overshadowing the atonement cover. But we cannot discuss these things in detail now. ‘
      Hebrews 9:4-5
  • Numbers 17
    • ‘The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and get twelve staffs from them, one from the leader of each of their ancestral tribes. Write the name of each man on his staff. On the staff of Levi write Aaron’s name, for there must be one staff for the head of each ancestral tribe. Place them in the tent of meeting in front of the ark of the covenant law, where I meet with you. The staff belonging to the man I choose will sprout, and I will rid myself of this constant grumbling against you by the Israelites.” So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and their leaders gave him twelve staffs, one for the leader of each of their ancestral tribes, and Aaron’s staff was among them. Moses placed the staffs before the Lord in the tent of the covenant law. The next day Moses entered the tent and saw that Aaron’s staff, which represented the tribe of Levi, had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds. Then Moses brought out all the staffs from the Lord ’s presence to all the Israelites. They looked at them, and each of the leaders took his own staff. The Lord said to Moses, “Put back Aaron’s staff in front of the ark of the covenant law, to be kept as a sign to the rebellious. This will put an end to their grumbling against me, so that they will not die.” Moses did just as the Lord commanded him. The Israelites said to Moses, “We will die! We are lost, we are all lost! Anyone who even comes near the tabernacle of the Lord will die. Are we all going to die?”’
      Numbers 17:1-13
  • 1 Samuel 4
    • ‘And Samuel’s word came to all Israel. Now the Israelites went out to fight against the Philistines. The Israelites camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines at Aphek. The Philistines deployed their forces to meet Israel, and as the battle spread, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand of them on the battlefield. When the soldiers returned to camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why did the Lord bring defeat on us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the Lord ’s covenant from Shiloh, so that he may go with us and save us from the hand of our enemies.” So the people sent men to Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim. And Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. When the ark of the Lord ’s covenant came into the camp, all Israel raised such a great shout that the ground shook. Hearing the uproar, the Philistines asked, “What’s all this shouting in the Hebrew camp?” When they learned that the ark of the Lord had come into the camp, the Philistines were afraid. “A god has come into the camp,” they said. “Oh no! Nothing like this has happened before. We’re doomed! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? They are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness. Be strong, Philistines! Be men, or you will be subject to the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Be men, and fight!” So the Philistines fought, and the Israelites were defeated and every man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great; Israel lost thirty thousand foot soldiers. The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died. That same day a Benjamite ran from the battle line and went to Shiloh with his clothes torn and dust on his head. When he arrived, there was Eli sitting on his chair by the side of the road, watching, because his heart feared for the ark of God. When the man entered the town and told what had happened, the whole town sent up a cry. Eli heard the outcry and asked, “What is the meaning of this uproar?” The man hurried over to Eli, who was ninety-eight years old and whose eyes had failed so that he could not see. He told Eli, “I have just come from the battle line; I fled from it this very day.” Eli asked, “What happened, my son?” The man who brought the news replied, “Israel fled before the Philistines, and the army has suffered heavy losses. Also your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured.” When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell backward off his chair by the side of the gate. His neck was broken and he died, for he was an old man, and he was heavy. He had led Israel forty years. His daughter-in-law, the wife of Phinehas, was pregnant and near the time of delivery. When she heard the news that the ark of God had been captured and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she went into labor and gave birth, but was overcome by her labor pains. As she was dying, the women attending her said, “Don’t despair; you have given birth to a son.” But she did not respond or pay any attention. She named the boy Ichabod, saying, “The Glory has departed from Israel”—because of the capture of the ark of God and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband. She said, “The Glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured.”’
      1 Samuel 4:1-22
  • 1 Samuel 5
    • ‘After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. Then they carried the ark into Dagon’s temple and set it beside Dagon. When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord ! They took Dagon and put him back in his place. But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord ! His head and hands had been broken off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained. That is why to this day neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter Dagon’s temple at Ashdod step on the threshold. The Lord ’s hand was heavy on the people of Ashdod and its vicinity; he brought devastation on them and afflicted them with tumors. When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, “The ark of the god of Israel must not stay here with us, because his hand is heavy on us and on Dagon our god.” So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked them, “What shall we do with the ark of the god of Israel?” They answered, “Have the ark of the god of Israel moved to Gath.” So they moved the ark of the God of Israel. But after they had moved it, the Lord ’s hand was against that city, throwing it into a great panic. He afflicted the people of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumors. So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. As the ark of God was entering Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out, “They have brought the ark of the god of Israel around to us to kill us and our people.” So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and said, “Send the ark of the god of Israel away; let it go back to its own place, or it will kill us and our people.” For death had filled the city with panic; God’s hand was very heavy on it. Those who did not die were afflicted with tumors, and the outcry of the city went up to heaven.’
      1 Samuel 5:1-12
  • 1 Samuel 6
    • ‘When the ark of the Lord had been in Philistine territory seven months, the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners and said, “What shall we do with the ark of the Lord ? Tell us how we should send it back to its place.” They answered, “If you return the ark of the god of Israel, do not send it back to him without a gift; by all means send a guilt offering to him. Then you will be healed, and you will know why his hand has not been lifted from you.” The Philistines asked, “What guilt offering should we send to him?” They replied, “Five gold tumors and five gold rats, according to the number of the Philistine rulers, because the same plague has struck both you and your rulers. Make models of the tumors and of the rats that are destroying the country, and give glory to Israel’s god. Perhaps he will lift his hand from you and your gods and your land. Why do you harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh did? When Israel’s god dealt harshly with them, did they not send the Israelites out so they could go on their way? “Now then, get a new cart ready, with two cows that have calved and have never been yoked. Hitch the cows to the cart, but take their calves away and pen them up. Take the ark of the Lord and put it on the cart, and in a chest beside it put the gold objects you are sending back to him as a guilt offering. Send it on its way, but keep watching it. If it goes up to its own territory, toward Beth Shemesh, then the Lord has brought this great disaster on us. But if it does not, then we will know that it was not his hand that struck us but that it happened to us by chance.” So they did this. They took two such cows and hitched them to the cart and penned up their calves. They placed the ark of the Lord on the cart and along with it the chest containing the gold rats and the models of the tumors. Then the cows went straight up toward Beth Shemesh, keeping on the road and lowing all the way; they did not turn to the right or to the left. The rulers of the Philistines followed them as far as the border of Beth Shemesh. Now the people of Beth Shemesh were harvesting their wheat in the valley, and when they looked up and saw the ark, they rejoiced at the sight. The cart came to the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh, and there it stopped beside a large rock. The people chopped up the wood of the cart and sacrificed the cows as a burnt offering to the Lord . The Levites took down the ark of the Lord , together with the chest containing the gold objects, and placed them on the large rock. On that day the people of Beth Shemesh offered burnt offerings and made sacrifices to the Lord . The five rulers of the Philistines saw all this and then returned that same day to Ekron. These are the gold tumors the Philistines sent as a guilt offering to the Lord —one each for Ashdod, Gaza, Ashkelon, Gath and Ekron. And the number of the gold rats was according to the number of Philistine towns belonging to the five rulers—the fortified towns with their country villages. The large rock on which the Levites set the ark of the Lord is a witness to this day in the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh. But God struck down some of the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, putting seventy of them to death because they looked into the ark of the Lord . The people mourned because of the heavy blow the Lord had dealt them. And the people of Beth Shemesh asked, “Who can stand in the presence of the Lord , this holy God? To whom will the ark go up from here?” Then they sent messengers to the people of Kiriath Jearim, saying, “The Philistines have returned the ark of the Lord . Come down and take it up to your town.”’
      1 Samuel 6:1-21

As day 284 begins, I would hate to miss giving the opportunity to anyone who hasn’t received Jesus into their lives as their Lord and Savior an opportunity to make the decision today and the blessing to get to live out the rest of the year in that power and that truth and that hope.

If you would like to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, why not join me in this prayer?

What needs to be done to be ready for the year ahead?

Last day before work starts up. New year underway. What needs to be planned for? What needs to be prepared for? What do you need to be ready for? It’s go time! No more waiting! No more delay! No more sitting on the sidelines! It’s go time! It’s time to get fit! It’s time to get healthy! It’s time to set a plan! It’s time to get the projects itemized and aligned! It’s time to set schedules! It’s time to define rules! It’s time to make a difference! Let’s be ready!

So let’s praise God for what He has done! Let’s praise God what He is doing! Let’s praise God for what He is about to do! Let’s praise God for the favor He has provided! Let’s praise God fro the courage He has provided! And with this let’s complete the work He has given us to do!

Do you see the people God has brought around you? Do you see how God has brought you people who have been gifted to help in the work ahead of you? Do you see how God provided people who can provide wisdom and discernment? Do you see how God provided people who can provide expertise and skills to get it done? Do you see how God provided people who were gifted with talents that will help you get the work done? Appreciate them! Thank God for them! Come together in unity to complete the work has prepared in advance for you to do!

Ever been so aware of something ahead that when you look at different parts you see them coming together at the same time? 8 days left in my annual bible reading. The end of this coincides with the scheduled week of prayer and fasting. So what’s next? Building my relationship up with God as that is step 1 in receiving clarity in my heart! What things need to be accomplished — work, camp, travel, blessings, teach, raise, … God’s never early, and never late, God’s timing is perfect!

So let’s continue to prepare! Let’s hear God’s Word and be doers of God’s Word! Faith without actions is dead!

Let’s close together today with today’s reading from the New Testament!

Warning against Prejudice

1My friends, as believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, you must never treat people in different ways according to their outward appearance. 2Suppose a rich man wearing a gold ring and fine clothes comes to your meeting, and a poor man in ragged clothes also comes. 3If you show more respect to the well-dressed man and say to him, “Have this best seat here,” but say to the poor man, “Stand over there, or sit here on the floor by my feet,” 4then you are guilty of creating distinctions among yourselves and of making judgments based on evil motives.
5Listen, my dear friends! God chose the poor people of this world to be rich in faith and to possess the kingdom which he promised to those who love him. 6But you dishonor the poor! Who are the ones who oppress you and drag you before the judges? The rich! 7They are the ones who speak evil of that good name which has been given to you.
8 You will be doing the right thing if you obey the law of the Kingdom, which is found in the scripture, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” 9But if you treat people according to their outward appearance, you are guilty of sin, and the Law condemns you as a lawbreaker. 10Whoever breaks one commandment is guilty of breaking them all. 11 For the same one who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not commit murder.” Even if you do not commit adultery, you have become a lawbreaker if you commit murder. 12Speak and act as people who will be judged by the law that sets us free. 13For God will not show mercy when he judges the person who has not been merciful; but mercy triumphs over judgment.

Faith and Actions

14My friends, what good is it for one of you to say that you have faith if your actions do not prove it? Can that faith save you? 15Suppose there are brothers or sisters who need clothes and don’t have enough to eat. 16What good is there in your saying to them, “God bless you! Keep warm and eat well!”—if you don’t give them the necessities of life? 17So it is with faith: if it is alone and includes no actions, then it is dead.
18But someone will say, “One person has faith, another has actions.” My answer is, “Show me how anyone can have faith without actions. I will show you my faith by my actions.” 19Do you believe that there is only one God? Good! The demons also believe—and tremble with fear. 20You fool! Do you want to be shown that faith without actions is useless? 21 How was our ancestor Abraham put right with God? It was through his actions, when he offered his son Isaac on the altar. 22Can’t you see? His faith and his actions worked together; his faith was made perfect through his actions. 23 And the scripture came true that said, “Abraham believed God, and because of his faith God accepted him as righteous.” And so Abraham was called God’s friend. 24You see, then, that it is by our actions that we are put right with God, and not by our faith alone.
25 It was the same with the prostitute Rahab. She was put right with God through her actions, by welcoming the Israelite spies and helping them to escape by a different road.
26So then, as the body without the spirit is dead, also faith without actions is dead.

–James 2

What does it take to get your attention?

Ever notice how different people may be oblivious to what is taking place around them? For some they are immediately aware. For some they take a little prodding or poking before they realize there is something going on. For some it takes a monstrous event to get their attention.

Ever noticed how even when some people’s attention has been gotten, it still takes more for them to get or become engaged into the situation? Ever noticed that sometimes people can compartmentalize their life so much that they can ignore certain pieces? Ever found that some may realize but are just looking to escape the situation rather than address it?

What about you? Are you aware of what is going on around you? How crazy do things need to get before you will do something or get involved? Or will you? If you learned today that things were going off the rails, would you do something? How would you respond? What choice would you make? Would you do something before it was too late?

What does it take to get your attention?

Today’s reading continues in Isaiah…

Downfall of Jerusalem and Judah

1For behold! The Lord, Adonai-Tzva’ot, takes from Jerusalem and from Judah supply and support, every supply of bread and every supply of water, 2mighty man and man of war, judge, and prophet, fortune-teller and elder, 3captain of 50 and man of rank, counselor, crafty magician and cunning charmer. 4I will set children as their rulers. Capricious ones will govern them. 5The people will oppress one another— each one by his fellow, each one by his neighbor. The child will be insolent to the aged, and dishonorable to the honorable. 6When a man takes hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying: “You have a cloak, you be our ruler! This ruin is under your charge.” 7In that day he will protest, saying: “I’m no healer! In my house is no bread or cloak. Don’t make me a ruler of people!” 8For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah is fallen. For their tongue and their actions are against Adonai, defying the eyes of His glory. 9The expression of their faces bears witness against them. They display their sin like Sodom— they do not hide it. Oy , their souls! For they brought evil on themselves.

The Judge Arises

10Say to the righteous, he will be well, eating the fruit of their deeds. 11Oy , the wicked! It will be bad for him, for the dealing of his hands will be done to him. 12My people! Children are their oppressors and women rule over them. My people! Your guides mislead you and destroy the way of your paths. 13Adonai arises to contend a case, and stands to judge the people. 14Adonai will enter into judgment with the elders of His people and with the princes: “You have devoured the vineyard. The plunder of the poor is in your houses. 15What do you mean by crushing My people and grinding the face of the poor?” says Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot. 16Moreover Adonai says: “Since the Daughters of Zion are proud, and walk with outstretched necks and seductive eyes, walking and mincing as they go, making a jingling with their feet, 17therefore Adonai will smite with a scab the forehead of the Daughters of Zion. Adonai will expose their secret parts. 18In that day Adonai will strip the finery of anklets, headbands, crescents, 19pendants and bracelets, veils, 20headdresses, armlets, sashes, perfume vials, amulets, 21rings and nose-jewels, 22festal robes, capes, cloaks, purses, 23lace scarves, fine linen, turbans and veils. 24Now it will come to pass: Instead of sweet spices there will be rottenness; instead of a sash, rags; instead of curled hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing, sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty. 25Your men will fall by the sword, and your warriors in battle. 26Her gates will lament and mourn. Desolate, she will sit on the ground.

–from Isaiah 3

Do things have to get really bad? Do things have to get really good? Can things stay the same? We don’t have forever to make a choice! We don’t have forever to decide! Are you in or are you out? What if today is the last day, will you have chosen and know where you are going or will you have put it off and now will miss out?

1Seven women will grab hold of one man in that day, saying: “We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel. Only let us be called by your name— take away our reproach!”

Zion’s End-Time Glory

2In that day the Branch of Adonai will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land excellent and appealing for Israel’s survivors. 3So it will come to pass that whoever is left in Zion and whoever remains in Jerusalem will be called holy—everyone who is recorded among the living in Jerusalem. 4After Adonai has washed away the filth of the Daughters of Zion and has purged the blood of Jerusalem from her midst by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning, 5then Adonai will create over the whole area of Mount Zion and over her convocations, a cloud by day, and smoke and shining of a flaming fire by night. For over all, glory will be a canopy. 6Then there will be a sukkah for shade by day from the heat, and for refuge and for shelter from storm and from rain.

–from Isaiah 4

Will you live a life that will be a good return on investment? Will you be taking the gifts and talents you have been given and multiply them? Will you just dig a hole and put them there? We are supposed to take what we have been given and multiply it like a good steward! For the earth is the Lord’s and everything it, so we just need to be good stewards with what we have been given!

Song of the Vineyard

1Let me sing of my beloved, a song of my beloved, about His vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard in a very fertile hill. 2He dug it out and cleared its stones, planted it with a choice vine, built a tower in the midst of it, and even cut out a winepress. He expected it to yield good grapes, but it yielded worthless grapes. 3So now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah, please judge between me and my vineyard. 4What more was there to do for my vineyard that I have not done? Why then, when I expected it to yield good grapes, did it yield worthless grapes? 5So now, I will make known to you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down the fence, and it will be trodden down. 6I will lay it waste: it will not be pruned or hoed, but briers and thorns will come up. I will also command the clouds not to rain on it. 7For the vineyard of Adonai-Tzva’ot is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah the planting of His delight. He looked for justice, but behold, bloodshed, for righteousness, but behold, a cry!

Judgment for Injustice

8Woe to those who join house to house and merge field to field, until there is no room, and you will live alone in the midst of the land! 9In my ears, Adonai-Tzva’ot has said: “Surely many houses will be desolate— even grand and fine ones— with no occupants.” 10Ten acres of vineyard will yield six gallons, and an omer of seed will yield one ephah. 11Woe to those who rise up early in the morning— so they may pursue liquor, who stay up late at night, until wine inflames them! 12Harp and lyre, tambourine and flute, and wine are at their banquets. They do not notice Adonai’s activity nor see the works of His hands. 13“Therefore My people are in captivity for lack of knowledge. Their honorable men are famished and their multitudes parched with thirst. 14Therefore Sheol has enlarged its gullet and opened its measureless mouth— down goes her glory, her tumult, her uproar, and the revelry in her. 15So humanity will be bowed down mankind will be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty humbled.” 16But Adonai-Tzva’ot will be exalted through justice, and the Holy God consecrated through righteousness. 17Then lambs will graze as if in their own pasture, and nomads will eat in the ruins of the wealthy. 18Oy to those that drag iniquity along with cords of deceit, and sin as if with a cart rope! 19They say: “Let Him hurry up and hasten His work, so we may see it! Let the plan of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come, so we may know it!” 20Oy to those who call evil good and good evil, who present darkness as light and light as darkness, who present bitter as sweet, and sweet as bitter! 21Oy to those who are wise in their own eyes, and clever in their own sight! 22Oy to those who are heroes at drinking wine, and valiant at mixing drinks, 23who justify the wicked for a bribe, and deprive the innocent of justice! 24Therefore, as a tongue of fire consumes straw, and as chaff collapses into the flame, so their root will be like rot, and their blossom will go up like dust. For they have rejected the Torah of Adonai–Tzva’ot, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. 25Therefore Adonai’s anger is kindled against His people. When He has stretched out His hand against them and struck them, the hills trembled, and their carcasses were like refuse in the streets. For all this His anger is not turned away, yet His hand is still outstretched. 26He will lift up a banner to nations far off, and will whistle for them from the ends of the earth. Look! Swiftly, speedily they come! 27None will be weary and none stumble among them; none will slumber or sleep; no belt will be loose at the waist; no strap of sandals be broken. 28Their arrows are sharp and all their bows bent; their horse hooves will be like flint and their wheels like a whirlwind. 29Their roaring will be like a lion. They will growl like young lions— yes, they will roar, seize their prey and carry it away safely— and there will be none to rescue. 30They will roar against them like the roaring of the sea. If one looks to the land, behold, darkness and distress! The light is darkened by the clouds.

–from Isaiah 5

Consider the little you have to offer! You may think you have nothing, but what do you really have? Even the little you have when you give it up to God can be used and multiplied for the glory of God! Will you help others out of your abundance? Will you help others out of your lack? Will you take the little you have and give it up to God? Be it a little oil? Be it a your lunch? Be it a two fish and a few loaves? Do you realize what God can do with it? Will you trust Him if He or when He asks? There is a purpose! There is a plan! Don’t miss out!

Do You Still Not Understand?

1In those days, there was another large crowd with nothing to eat, and Yeshua called the disciples. He said to them, 2“I have compassion for the crowd, because they’ve stayed with Me for three days now and have nothing to eat. 3If I send them home hungry they’ll pass out on the way, for some of them have come from very far away.” 4His disciples answered Him, “How can anyone satisfy these people with bread here in a wasteland?” 5“How many loaves do you have?” Yeshua was asking them. “Seven,” they said. 6He directed the crowd to recline on the ground. After taking the seven loaves and giving thanks, He broke them and began giving them to His disciples to serve; and they served them to the crowd. 7They also had a few small fish and, after offering a bracha for them, He commanded these to be served as well. 8They ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the broken pieces left over—seven baskets. 9About four thousand were there, and Yeshua sent them away. 10Right away, He got into the boat with His disciples and went to the area of Dalmanutha. 11The Pharisees came and began to argue with Him, demanding a sign from heaven, to test Him. 12Sighing deeply in His spirit, Yeshua said, “Why does this generation demand a sign? Amen, I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.” 13Leaving them, He got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.

The Un-Seeing Disciples

14Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and they had only one loaf in the boat. 15Yeshua was warning them, “Watch out! Beware of the hametz of the Pharisees and the hametz of Herod.” 16They began to discuss with each other that they had no bread. 17And Yeshua, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you discuss that you have no bread? You still don’t get it? Don’t you understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18Having eyes, don’t you see? And having ears, don’t you hear? And don’t you remember? 19When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets of leftovers did you pick up?” “Twelve,” they say to Him. 20“When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many baskets of leftovers did you pick up?” “Seven,” they say to Him. 21He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”

Eyes that Need Opening

22They come to Bethsaida. Some people bring a blind man to Yeshua and beg Him to touch the man. 23Taking the blind man by the hand, Yeshua brought him outside the village. After spitting on the man’s eyes and laying His hands on him, Yeshua asked the man, “Do you see anything?” 24The man looked up and said, “I see men! They look like trees walking about.” 25Then Yeshua put His hands on the man’s eyes again. The man looked intently, his sight was restored, and he began to see everything clearly. 26Yeshua sent him straight home, saying, “Don’t even enter the village!” 27Now Yeshua and His disciples went out to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way He asked His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28They told Him, “John the Immerser; and others Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.” 29Then He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered Him, “You are the Messiah!” 30And He warned them not to tell anyone about Him.

Revealing the Mission

31Then He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and ruling kohanim and Torah scholars, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32He was speaking openly about this. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33But turning around and looking at His disciples, He rebuked Peter. He said, “Get behind Me, satan! You are not setting your mind on the things of God, but the things of men.” 34Then He called the crowd, along with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wants to follow after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and keep following Me. 35For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the sake of the Good News will save it. 36For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? 37For what could a man give in exchange for his soul? 38For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this unfaithful and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels!”

–from Mark 8

Do not be afraid, God is with you. Joshua 1:9–my 3 year old son is walking around quoting this. (Praise be to God)

Today’s Reading: Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this new day and for all that is within it. I praise You for the incredible things You have allowed me to be a part of by Your great and mercy. I lift this day up to You and ask that the Joy of the Lord be my strength, for this is the day that You have made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. I praise You for my family, my friends, the work You have provided for me to do for Your glory at work and at church and everywhere in between. Bless my family and the Watoto children who are getting to spend the day with us today. Help us to bless them I pray, in Jesus’ name. And Lord we will give You all the praise and the honor and the glory, in Jesus’ name Amen.

Are you being solutionary? Are you doing things that provide revolutionary new solutions for people around you? Are you making a difference today? Don’t be shy. Don’t be afraid. God tells us that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Another translations puts as awesomely and wonderfully made. Let’s consider what we are doing and what we are thinking, what problems we are looking to solve and why God has called us into this place. We each have a divine purpose, so let’s follow after God and bring SOLUTIONARY answers and bring praise and honor and glory to God throughout this world.

Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ." And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas.

But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here too. Jason has harbored them, and these are all acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king-Jesus." And they troubled the crowd and the rulers of the city when they heard these things. So when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.

Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men. But when the Jews from Thessalonica learned that the word of God was preached by Paul at Berea, they came there also and stirred up the crowds. Then immediately the brethren sent Paul away, to go to the sea; but both Silas and Timothy remained there. So those who conducted Paul brought him to Athens; and receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to him with all speed, they departed.

To some He is the UNKNOWN GOD. Will we step up and make Him known to this generation? Not just locally, but around the world? Will you support ministries in your community, in your state/province, in your country, and around the world? Will you help those who are called to go out and preach? We have all been given the command by Jesus to go out and preach the Good News, the Gospel. (Mark 16:15)

Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols. Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there. Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, "What does this babbler want to say?"

Others said, "He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods," because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.

And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, "May we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak? For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we want to know what these things mean." For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing.

Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription:

TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.
Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising. Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."

And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, "We will hear you again on this matter." So Paul departed from among them. However, some men joined him and believed, among them Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

How are you working? Are you a light in your work place? Do people want to work with you? Are you carrying your load? Are you shining for Jesus in the way you work, the way you speak, and the way you act? When you know people are looking and even when you don’t think they are? People are watching you, what are they seeing?

After these things Paul departed from Athens and went to Corinth. And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla (because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome); and he came to them. So, because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked; for by occupation they were tentmakers. And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.

When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to them, "Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles." And he departed from there and entered the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue. Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.

Fear Not, Just Believe. Do not be afraid, God is with us. Do what God calls you to do.

Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, "Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city." And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

WORSHIP

Indignation has taken hold of me
Because of the wicked, who forsake Your law.
Your statutes have been my songs
In the house of my pilgrimage.
I remember Your name in the night, O LORD,
And I keep Your law.
Psalm 119:53-55

WISDOM

He who loves pleasure will be a poor man;
He who loves wine and oil will not be rich.
