THRIVE: Happy Father’s Day!

As the day begins and I consider all that today means there are so many things. Today is commissioning day where the team and I will be prayed for in preparation for the camps this summer. Today is a Sunday and so I will get to hear the preaching of the Word of God. Today is Father’s Day and I am blessed to have a great dad who has been a great role model for me. I reflect back to the moment when I had the aha moment about having a relationship with my Heavenly Father. To thrive requires relationship building! Be it building relationships through reconciliation! Be it building relationships through forgiveness! Be it building relationships through spending time together! All successful ministries come through relationships!

So today, let’s thrive and make the most of our day, accomplishing the good works God has prepared in advance for us to accomplish for our good and His glory!

Today’s verse of the day:

‘As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; ‘

Psalms 103:13

Are you needing compassion today? Are you needing to give it or receive it? Are you ready to accept it or offer it? Could today be the day to rekindle a relationship out of compassion? Could today be the day to strengthen or rebuild a relationship out of compassion? Could today be the day to start a relationship out of compassion?

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Just For Dads: Be A Positive Christian Role Model – Day 18

Are you needing compassion? Are you needing reconciliation? Are you needing forgiveness? Let’s get it started today by inviting Jesus into our hearts and our lives! Let’s get it started by allowing the Holy Spirit to clean out the negativity and gunk of the past so that we can receive and give compassion! Let’s get it started by allowing the Holy Spirit to clean out the negativity and gunk of the past so that we can receive and give reconciliation! Let’s get it started by allowing the Holy Spirit to clean out the negativity and gunk of the past so that we can receive and give forgiveness!

Let’s Pray!

Prayer Of Salvation
"Oh Father God, I believe with all of my heart that Jesus died on the cross for my sake and has risen from the dead. Lord, I receive Your Word and I repent of my sins. I renounce the past. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. I receive my forgiveness. I receive the new birth, cleansed and washed in the Word and in the precious blood of Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit, in Jesus' name. Amen."

THRIVE: Prioritize and Avoid the obstacles…

Can you believe we are there already? We’ve made it to the day many call humpday. The day people think is the obstacle or bump in the road to the weekend. To thrive based on the definition means we continue to grow vigorously, to flourish, to prosper no matter what situation we are facing – in spite of them or because of them. So a bump in the road shouldn’t stop us from thriving for the glory of God! Let’s make sure our priorities are right! Let’s avoid the obstacles that will prevent us from accomplishing the good works God has prepared in advance for us to accomplish! Let’s decide today what is important, what God has prepared for us to do, and go and get it done! Let’s be the mentor and manager we need to be! Let’s get the details hammered out and planned out! Let’s get the plans rolling! Let’s do it in a way that is helpful, not harmful! Let’s do it in a way that builds up rather than tears down!

This is the day that the Lord has made, so let us rejoice and be glad in it! Let’s live out the priorities God has given us! God first! Wife/Spouse second! Kids/Family third! everything else comes after this and so we need to live our lives in a way to honor this!

Is there anything getting in the way of completing what God has prepared? Do you know what to do or how to get through it, over it, or around it? Ask God for wisdom and discernment to help you! Ask the Holy Spirit to give you direction and instruction to get it done! Be bold and courageous and step up and step out to finish the good works God prepared in advance for you to accomplish today!

TODAY’S VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. ‘

Matthew 18:3-5

As we talk about obstacles a word that comes to mind is things that cause us to stumble. As I was grabbing today’s verse of the day the next topic spoke to our discussion for today and so before continuing I wanted to reflect on what it tells us about how to live our lives.

‘ “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come! If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell. ‘

Matthew 18:6-9

So what are you facing today? What is being asked of you? Are there obstacles you need to overcome? Are there asks of you? Invite Jesus into your heart to help you process it! Invite Jesus into your life to help you be an overcomer by going over, around, or through the obstacles that come your way! Invite Jesus into your situation so that you can be bold and courageous enough to finish the good works prepared in advance for you to accomplish!

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email.

THRIVE: Let’s build on what we’ve got!

What an incredible first week. Hit the ground running and got to learn and hear from the teams. What an incredible group of people who are passionate and care about delivering for our customers. What an incredible group of leaders with vision and purpose that will elevate and bring things to another level. There is still a lot to learn and a lot to do and so this week the plan is to build upon what we have and move forward in order to thrive for the glory of God!

Today we’ll take the lessons learned, the existing tools, and wisdom and discernment from God to press forward boldly and courageously to accomplish the purpose and plans of God in and through this day. Today we’ll take the solid foundation that is Jesus as the rock on which to build our lives and put on the full armor of God be ready to stand up for what is right and step into what God has purposed and planned! Today we’ll finish the good works that God has prepared in advance for us to accomplish so that when others see it they will glorify and worship our Father in heaven. Let’s choose to live out our today in a way that we can thrive for the glory of God!

Thrive!
Living for the glory of God!

Verse of the Day:

‘for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. ‘

Romans 3:23-24

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Kill the Noise – Day 6

Are you ready to build your life upon Jesus? Are you ready to receive Him as your Lord and Savior? Are you ready to be able to put the past where it belongs, behind you? Are you ready to press towards the goal that is before you so that you can live your life in a way that will bring God the praise, the honor, and the glory? Are you ready to accomplish the good works God has prepared in advance for you today?

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email or text.

THRIVE: How do you use what you have been given?

Do you use it to make your life better? Do you use it to serve others? Do you use it to help others? Do you use it to try and make a difference? Do you use it to try and glorify God? Do you use it to be generous? Do you use it to refresh others? Do you use it to build up? Do you use it to tear it down? Do you use it to encourage? Do you use it for good? Do you use it for evil?

Do you realize where what you have has come from?

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

James 1:17

Will you choose to use what you have been given to thrive? Will you choose to use what you have been given to thrive for the glory of God?

Do you realize why God has given it to you?

‘Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. ‘

2 Corinthians 9:10-11

So what have you been given? Do you realize the difference between the seeds and the bread? Do you realize that the seeds are for planting and not for eating? Do you realize the bread is for eating? So let’s take what we have and use it for the right reasons and the right purposes. Let’s choose to be people who are generous. Let’s lean in and trust God so that He can help us both be ready and be obedient in living our lives so that we can thrive for His glory!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. ‘

Proverbs 11:25

Today’s post from Be The Dads is The Daring Dad – Day 2.

So are you ready to use what you have for the greater good? Are you ready to accept what you have been given as a gift from God? Every good and perfect gift comes from God. Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life so that He can provide you the wisdom and guidance you need to use what you have to its full potential? Are you ready to be generous on every occasion? Are you ready to be led and guided by the Holy Spirit? Could today be the beginning of a new way and a great way for you to live?

Let’s Pray!

Dear God
I admit I am a sinner and need your forgiveness; I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place paying the penalty for my sins. I am willing right now to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord. I commit myself to you and ask you to send the Holy Spirit into my life, to fill me and take control, and to help me become the kind of person you want me to be. Thank You Father for loving me. In Jesus' name.
Amen.

Today’s Reading from God’s Word:

Think before you speak! Words have power!

No matter what you are facing today, you can choose your words in a way that make a positive impact. No matter what comes your way, you can choose your words in a way that will make things better. No matter what gets said to you, you can choose to respond in a way that won’t drag you down and could turn things around.

Words have power! Will you choose words that will build up or tear down? Will you choose words so that they won’t corrupt you nor the situation but rather choose words that will build up and encourage? Will you choose words carefully so that when the day of judgment comes you won’t have a list of careless words you need to account for? Will you choose words that speak life rather than death? Will you choose words that will encourage one another and build one another up? Before you speak, will you allow the words to be run through the filter that is Jesus so that you will have the wisdom needed, you will receive the teaching and and direction you need, and so that you can be thankful at the end of it? Will you encourage one another because it is today? Will you pause before you speak and then make sure to be gracious and speak words seasoned with salt in order ensure you can answer each person as you should? Will you consider how to choose words that will stir up one another to love and do good works? Before you speak, check your heart and make sure it is in a good place for from the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. Is there anything in your heart that needs to be taken care of to prevent something negative, hurtful, or destructive from coming out of your mouth? Is there someone you need to forgive in order to uproot a root of bitterness? Is there someone you need to forgive in order to uproot a root of hatred? a root of anger? or others? Even with good intentions if we aren’t in the right frame of mind we might not be able to control our tongues and hence drive right off the road through our conversations.

So think before you speak! Make sure that you aren’t allowing emotions to derail the conversation. Make sure that you aren’t allowing hurts from the past to be put on people who don’t deserve them or that will make things worse for yourself. Let’s choose our words wisely! Let’s choose good words rather than corrupt ones! Let’s choose words that can teach, train, and enlighten! Let’s choose words that can give and demonstrate grace and mercy! Let’s choose words that will bring joy to God rather than hurt, wound, or cause pains!

What do you have to say today? Do you remember what the Bible says about speaking today? Check this out:

But continually encourage one another every day, as long as it is called “Today” [and there is an opportunity], so that none of you will be hardened [into settled rebellion] by the deceitfulness of sin [its cleverness, delusive glamour, and sophistication].

Hebrews 3:13 AMP

Let’s do everything in our power to make today a Happy Today!

The Bible gives us one more tip as much as it depends on us that says:

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Romans 12:18

So, just in case you didn’t know it, it is TODAY!

In case you didn’t know it, what you say and how you respond DEPENDS ON YOU!

So let’s make today great! Let’s choose our words wisely! Let’s make a difference to each life we come in contact with today, to each person God brings along our path, so that in and through it all God will receive the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’s name!

Words You Can Build On

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. ‘

Ephesians 4:29-30

Let’s expand on this a bit to ensure we capture the full context and capture the Amplified translation too.

‘ Therefore, rejecting all falsity and being done now with it, let everyone express the truth with his neighbor, for we are all parts of one body and members one of another. [Zech. 8:16.] When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down. Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him]. Let the thief steal no more, but rather let him be industrious, making an honest living with his own hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need. Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God’s own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin). Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind). And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.’

Ephesians 4:25-32

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Words have power!
  • Words have power to heal and to destroy!
  • Words have power to build up and to tear down!
  • Corrupt words have the power of a sledge hammer to crush people! Words of condemnation! Name calling!
  • Gossiping words have the power to destroy and corrode! Ruins relationships! Ruins confidence!
  • We learn through Paul’s words how we need to cut out these harmful, hurtful, destructive words from our vocabulary and behavior!
  • We learn through Paul’s words how we need to replace these negative words with words that will build up, heal, and be helpful!
  • We can’t control what others do or say but we can control ourselves and our responses!
  • Let’s choose today to raise the bar on how we speak to meet God’s bar!
  • Let’s choose today to up level our conversations so that when we speak we are speaking out of love and holiness for each person!
  • Let’s choose to up level our words to speak affirmation to others based on the good we find in them!
  • Let’s choose to up level our words to speak celebrate others for their successes!
  • Let’s choose to up level our words so that when we face people who have hurt us that we choose our words in order to bring reconciliation and restoration rather than destruction and condemnation!
  • Let’s make sure our motives are pure!
  • Let’s check our hearts and ask God to search it and cleanse it so that when we speak there won’t be any of that old bad stuff coming out of our mouth because of what is left behind in our hearts.
  • Let’s choose to speak in a way that has impact for the good!
  • Let’s choose our words so that they both impact our relationship with others as well as our relationship with God!
  • Let’s check our words with the Holy Spirit before we allow them out of our mouth and discover we ended up grieving the Holy Spirit.
  • Let’s choose words that will make God smile today!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • What negative, harmful language do you need to stop using?
  • Think of three or four common conversations in which you often use crushing or corrosive language, and plan positive statements for each one.

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

If it is painful for you to criticize your friends, you are safe in doing it. But if you take the slightest pleasure in it, that’s the time to hold your tongue.

Alice Duer Miller

“When you exercise your freedom to express yourself at the lowest level, you ultimately condemn yourself to live at that level.”

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you at? Are you able to control your words? Are you able to speak truth in love? Are you able to speak life and encouragement? Do you need help in this area? Do you need to check your heart and look to bring health and healing there? Could today be turning point? Could day be your day? Let’s pray:

What is the treasure you seek?

Is it a treasure you can bring with you everywhere you go? Is it a treasure that will last forever? Is it a treasure you can store somewhere safe where thieves can steal and rust cannot destroy? Is it a treasure that will make a difference every day? Is it a treasure that will help you every day of your life? Is it a treasure that will make your life better? Is it a treasure that will help you improve your life and the lives of those around you? Is it a treasure that will never run out? Is it a treasure that will refill?

Have you found it? Are you treasuring it?

Today’s reading starts with Proverbs 7…

Treasure Torah’s Teaching

1My son, keep my words and treasure my mitzvot within you. 2Keep my mitzvot and live, my teaching as the apple of your eye. 3Bind them on your fingers, write them on the tablet of your heart. 4Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call understanding your relative. 5They will keep you from a seducing woman, from the foreign woman with her seductive speech. 6For at the window of my house I looked out through my lattice. 7I saw among the naïve, I noticed among the youth, a young man lacking understanding, 8crossing the street near her corner, walking in the direction of her house, 9in the twilight of the evening, in the darkest hours of the night. 10All of a sudden, a woman meets him, dressed as a prostitute and with a cunning heart. 11She is loud and defiant. Her feet never stay at home— 12now in the streets, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks. 13So she grabs him and kisses him and with a brazen face says to him: 14“I had to sacrifice fellowship offerings; today I paid my vow. 15So I’ve come out to meet you, to seek your presence eagerly— and I found you! 16I have spread my couch with tapestry of dyed Egyptian linens. 17I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. 18Come, let’s drink our fill of love till morning! Let’s delight ourselves with love. 19For my husband is not at home— he’s gone on a long journey. 20He took a bag of money with him— he won’t come home until full moon.” 21With her persistent pleading she entices him, with smooth talk she seduces him. 22Suddenly he follows her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a stag bounding toward a trap, 23till an arrow pierces its liver. Like a bird darting into a snare, he never considered his own soul! 24Now then, sons, listen to me, pay attention to the words of my mouth. 25Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray onto her paths. 26For many are the victims she has brought down, and numerous are all her slain. 27Her house is a highway to Sheol, leading down to the chambers of death.

–from Proverbs 7

Seek wisdom! Ask Jesus into your heart! Allow your faith to build! Store up and invest in eternity! God’s way is so much great and better and higher than anything we could ever do on our own!

Wisdom Appeals at the Gates

1Does not wisdom cry out, and understanding lift her voice? 2On the topmost heights along the way, at the crossroads, she takes her stand. 3Beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud: 4“To you, O men, I call out! My cry is to all mankind! 5O naïve ones, learn prudence! Fools, gain understanding! 6Listen, for I speak excellent things, and my lips utter right things. 7For my mouth speaks truth, and my lips detest wickedness. 8All the words of my mouth are righteous, Nothing in them is perverse or crooked. 9All of them are straightforward to the discerning, and right to those who find knowledge. 10Receive my instruction instead of silver and knowledge rather than choice gold. 11For wisdom is better than jewels, nothing you desire compares with her. 12“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and acquire knowledge with discretion. 13To fear Adonai is to hate evil. I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and a perverse mouth. 14Counsel and sound wisdom are mine. I have understanding and power. 15By me kings reign and princes decree justice. 16By me princes govern, and all nobles who judge righteously. 17I love those who love me. Those who earnestly seek me find me. 18With me are wealth and honor, enduring riches and righteousness. 19My fruit is better than refined gold, my harvest better than choice silver. 20I walk in the way of righteousness, along paths of justice. 21I endow substance to those who love me and fill their treasuries.

Wisdom Before Creation

22“Adonai brought me forth, the first of His way, before His works of old. 23From eternity I was appointed from the beginning, before the world began. 24When there were no depths, I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water. 25Before the mountains were shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth. 26He had not yet made the land, the fields, or the first dust of the earth. 27 When He set the heavens in place, I was there. When He inscribed the horizon on the face of the ocean, 28when He established the skies above, when He securely fixed the fountains of the deep, 29when He set the boundaries for the sea, so that the waters never transgress His command, when He laid out earth’s foundations— 30then I was the craftsman beside Him, I was His daily delight, always rejoicing before Him, 31 rejoicing in His whole world, and delighting in mankind. 32“So now, children, listen to me! Blessed are those who keep my ways. 33Heed discipline and be wise, and do not neglect it. 34Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my doorposts. 35For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from Adonai. 36But whoever fails to find me harms his life— all who hate me love death.”

–from Proverbs 8

Let’s live our lives in love! Loving God and loving others! Let’s allow God’s love to flow through us into the lives of those around by showing them grace!

Be Gracious to Your Servants

1A Song of Ascents. To You I lift up my eyes— You enthroned in the heavens. 2Behold, as the eyes of slaves to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a slave-girl to the hand of her mistress— so our eyes look to Adonai our God, till He shows us favor. 3Show us favor, Adonai, show us favor! For we have endured much contempt. 4Our soul has had enough of the scorn of those at ease, the contempt of the proud.

–from Psalms 123

Let’s use our words for good! Words have power! Words have the power to build up and to tear down! Let’s use them to build up others and teardown strongholds! Ever heard sayings about your mouth? “Loose lips sink ships”, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.“… Today’s reading speaks to taming the tongue and the dangers of the tongue…

Dangerous Tongue

1Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers and sisters, since you know that we will receive a stricter judgment. 2For we all stumble in many ways. If someone does not stumble in speech, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well. 3And if we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we guide their whole body as well. 4See also the ships—though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5So also the tongue is a small member—yet it boasts of great things. See how so small a fire sets a blaze so great a forest! 6And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is a world of evil placed among our body parts. It pollutes the whole body and sets on fire the course of life—and is set on fire by Gehenna. 7For every species of beasts and birds, reptiles and sea creatures, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9With it we bless our Adonai and Father, and with it we curse people, who are made in the image of God. 10From the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, these things should not be. 11A spring doesn’t pour out fresh and bitter water from the same opening, does it? 12My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree produce olives, or a vine produce figs? Neither can salt water produce fresh water.

Gentle Wisdom from Above

13Who among you is wise and understanding? By his good conduct let him show his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. 14But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil practice. 17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, not hypocritical. 18And the fruit of righteousness is sown in shalom by those who make shalom.

–from James 3

So, let’s not go it alone! Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken. God has much for us to do! Let’s team up and go out there and take back the ground the devil is trying to steal from us! Let’s stand up for something rather than falling for everything! Let’s go and bring back a good report of how God was able to work in and through us! Let’s go and exhibit what it is like to be a good neighbor! Let’s show the love of God and our love for people! Let’s live each day to make a difference!

Yeshua Sends Out the Seventy

1Now after these things, the Lord assigned seventy others and sent them out by twos before Him into every town and place where He Himself was about to go. 2And He was telling them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, beg the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest. 3“Go forth! Look, I am sending you as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4Do not be burdened with a money belt, travel bag, or shoes; and do not greet anyone along the way. 5Whatever home you enter, first say, “Shalom be on this home.” 6If a son of shalom is there, your shalom will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. 7And remain in this same home, eating and drinking the things they offer, for the worker is deserving of his wage. Do not keep moving from house to house. 8“Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what they set before you. 9Then heal the sick in that town, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10But if you enter a town and they do not welcome you, then go out into its streets and say, 11‘Even the dust of your town sticking to our feet, we wipe off as a witness to you. But know this! The kingdom of God has come near.’ 12I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than for that town. 13“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have turned long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14Yet it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the Judgment than for you! 15And you, Capernaum? You won’t be lifted up to heaven, will you? No, you will go down as far as Sheol. 16The one who listens to you hears Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me, and the one who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”

Returning with a Good Report

17Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Master, even the demons submit to us in Your name!” 18And Yeshua said to them, “I was watching satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19Behold, I have given you authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20Nevertheless, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names have been written in the heavens.” 21In that very hour, He was overjoyed in the Ruach ha-Kodesh and said, “I praise You, Father, Master of the universe, that You have hidden these things from the wise and discerning and revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was pleasing to You. 22All things have been handed over to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.” 23Then turning to the disciples, He said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! 24For I tell you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you are seeing yet did not see, and to hear what you are hearing yet did not hear.”

Who Is My Neighbor?

25Now a certain Torah lawyer stood up to entrap Yeshua, saying, “Teacher, what should I do to gain eternal life?” 26Then Yeshua said to him, “What has been written in the Torah? How do you read it?” 27And he replied, “You shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” 28Yeshua said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live.” 29But wanting to vindicate himself, he said to Yeshua, “Then who is my neighbor?” 30Yeshua replied, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho. He was attacked by robbers, who stripped him and beat him. Then they left, abandoning him as half dead. 31And by chance, a kohen was going down that road; but when he saw the man, he passed by on the opposite side. 32Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the opposite side. 33But a Samaritan who was traveling came upon him; and when he noticed the man, he felt compassion. 34He went up to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on olive oil and wine. Then setting him on his own animal, he brought him to a lodge for travelers and took care of him. 35The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him. And whatever else you spend, upon my return I will repay you myself.’ 36Which of these three seems to you a neighbor to the one attacked by robbers?” 37And he said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” Then Yeshua said to him, “Go, and you do the same.”

At Home with Miriam and Martha

38Now while they were traveling, Yeshua entered a certain village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39She had a sister called Miriam, who was seated at the Master’s feet, listening to His teaching. 40But Martha was distracted with much serving; so she approached Yeshua and said, “Master, doesn’t it concern you that my sister has left me to serve alone? Then tell her to help me!” 41But answering her, the Lord said, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and bothered about many things; 42but only one thing is necessary. For Miriam has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

How are you feeling in your heart?

There are a lot of things that happen because of what you feel in your heart. When you have a glad heart you have a happy face. When you have a broken heart your spirit feels crushed.

13 A glad heart makes a happy face;a broken heart crushes the spirit.

Proverbs 15:13

Depending on what your heart is filled with that is what overflows and comes out of your mouth. If your heart is filled with good things, you tend to be speak positive and encouraging things. If your heart is filled with negative things, you tend to speak destructive and negative things. Its not what you eat that makes you unclean, it is what comes out of your mouth. Be careful what comes out of your mouth for words have power. They have the power to build up and to tear down. They have the power hurt and the power to heal.

Check your words at the door and live a life that exemplifies Ephesians 4:29

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Ephesians 4:29

The right word at the right time can soothe anger, create good will, provide comfort, bring encouragement, lift ones spirit, breakdown strongholds, tear down walls, and so much more. Use words for good. Use words to enlighten, improve moral and knowledge for someone. You now know where the saying comes from “if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all.”

I see it as a parallel to Proverbs 17:28

Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.

Proverbs 17:28

Fear Not, Just Believe… Fearful to Fearless

Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 2:1 (NLT)

Biblical Truth:

Do not rely on your own self sufficiency, but be strong and determined in your faith and love for God and Christ.

Today’s Devotional: SMILE!

(Non-Bold or Indented, Italic words are copy/paste from the devotional by Joyce Meyers)

One of my daily reminders that is titled “Be Encouraged! God knows what you are going through.” has a part about dressing up.

Dress Up! The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. “The Lord does not at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7

Another great way to look better is to be kind, but that is a story for another day. 🙂 I’ve heard it another way, being kind is the way to get a face lift without a scalpel.

Smiling has other benefits too… It burns more calories than frowning. It’s contagious, give it a try and see how many others around you start to smile (they may not even know why). It brightens a room.

Everyone knows how to smile. It’s one of the greatest gifts God has given us. A smile makes people feel good, and people look so beautiful when they smile. When the joy in your life is obvious, it rubs off on others. But when you keep God’s joy locked inside you and don’t allow it to show on your face, you’re depriving those around you of a pleasant and refreshing experience.

Do you realize the impact of your joy on the world around you? At home? At work? At church? At the grocery store? and everywhere in between? Do you realize the impact it has on your own circumstances? So fill your heart with JOY! Let your heart then overflow into every aspect of your life.

Most people really don’t understand how expressing joy will change their circumstances and, perhaps, the lives of others. Living your life with the joy of the Lord will chase off negative, depressing circumstances. And when we have His joy deep down inside of us, we can’t help but put it on display by smiling!

Smiling isn’t something to shrug off. It isn’t some goofy thing you do to your face. Smiling is an expression of the joy inside of you because you have been transformed. Allowing Jesus into Your heart and giving Him permission to clean up house (your heart house) and get rid of all the years of junk that was left to pile up in there. Let your face show how you have let God move in and be a part of your life.

I never would have thought that smiling was such a serious matter, but God has shown me how revolutionary a simple smile can be. Expressing joy through the calm delight of smiling brings good things into your own life and shares the joy and light of the Lord with others, so smile!

Prayer Starter:

Lord, remind me to smile daily! You’ve given me great joy, and I want to display it and brighten the lives of others!

The song was missing when I woke up, but it just hit me as I was typing in my last two lines. “He’s living on the inside, roaring like a lion.” Let our smiles show people that God’s not dead!

Today’s Reading: Discipleship Journal’s Book-at-a-Time Reading Plan

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for your Word and the truth that is revealed through Your Holy Spirit that speaks life and
hope, direction and correction, instruction and wisdom. Lord, forgive me I pray for the words I have used and I pray that You will help me to keep my mouth shut unless I plan to use them in a way that is glorifying to You. Help me Lord to fill my heart to overflowing with the incredible hope and love that I have found in You. Help me Lord to be the man of God who You created me to be as a husband, as a father, as a son, as a friend, as an employee, as a follower, as a leader, and as you continue to mold me and shape me into the person You desire me to be. Thank You Lord for the testimonies I have because of Your wisdom and grace. Thank You Lord for the hope that comes through the truth spoken through Your Word into my heart. Lord, let today be a great day that glorifies You. Let my words be words that help build up and encourage others. Let me words be words that shine the hope and truth of who You are. There is nobody greater than You Lord. I know and trust in You for I know Lord that no matter what the enemy has planned for evil, You will take it and turn it around and use it for good so that I can share the testimony of a life transformed again with others that point them back to You. May my thoughts, actions, and words today bring You praise, honor, and glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
