THRIVE: Let’s do it!

After nearly 3 years between covid years where things were canceled in many cases, and modified in other cases, this year we get to do it! This year we get to be filled up and pour out our lives for the good of others and the glory of God! There are many who may try to manipulate through fear, worry, anxiety, and doubt but that’s not what or how God wants it! Today, let’s choose to live our lives in alignment with God’s plan to give us hope and a future! Let’s choose to live our lives in a way where we live life to the full! Let’s cast our care and anxieties on God because He cares for us! Let’s consider it pure joy when we face trials allowing perseverance to complete its work so that we can be complete and lacking nothing! Let’s live out today humbly trusting that God will lift us up in His due time! It’s time! Let’s do it!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. ‘

1 Peter 5:7

Prayer Of Salvation
"Oh Father God, I believe with all of my heart that Jesus died on the cross for my sake and has risen from the dead. Lord, I receive Your Word and I repent of my sins. I renounce the past. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. I receive my forgiveness. I receive the new birth, cleansed and washed in the Word and in the precious blood of Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit, in Jesus' name. Amen."

THRIVE: Even with everything that’s taken place, until it is over there is still more to do.

If you are reading this then you are here and as such you have things to do and get done. This is the day that the Lord has made and so let’s rejoice and be glad in it! God has prepared in advance good works for us to accomplish today and it is up to get it done! So let’s be about the work of the Father and getting done those good works! Let’s focus on the things He has for us to get done today including making plans for what is next. Let’s not try to go it alone but instead choose to work on things together! We were never meant to go it alone and hence why God gave us one another! We were never meant to go it alone and hence why God sent the Holy Spirit! God cares too much to leave us on our own and promises to never leave us nor forsake/abandon us! So today let’s make sure we lean into God and cast all our cares upon Him because He cares for us! Let’s choose to listen to the prompting and directing of the Holy Spirit in order to be able to accomplish all that God has planned for us! Let’s remember God’s plans for us are for good and not for evil, they are to give us hope and a future! Yes, in this world we will have troubles but we don’t have to worry or mope about it because we know that Jesus overcame the world! Yes in this world we will face trials too but don’t fret or worry about that because we know that we should consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because we know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. We know that when we let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. So today, let us choose to lean in on God and trust Him, pursuing His plans, His purposes, and His calling on our lives!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. ‘

THRIVE: It’s that time of the week and the hump in the week is feeling steeper, so let’s dig deeper in order to use it as a ramp to get us farther!

Can you believe it is the middle of the week again? Where does the time go? Yesterday my son finished his first year of high school and today my younger daughter finishes her senior year of classes. Today is the first day of the second 25 years of marriage as we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary yesterday. And there is still so much to get done. So today the focus is on accelerating up the hill, over the hump in order to use it as a ramp for getting more done and landing further ahead. It’s time to make it happen, no excuses, no delays, just get it done! As Knight Rider would say “turbo boost K.I.T.T.”.

It’s time to get ahead and get it done so we can be prepared. So let’s make today count! Let’s grab hold of what the definition of thrive really is:

Definition of thrive
intransitive verb
1: to grow vigorously : FLOURISH
2: to gain in wealth or possessions : PROSPER
3: to progress toward or realize a goal despite or because of circumstances -- often used with on // thrives on conflict

So today, let’s choose to thrive for the glory of God!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. ‘

1 Peter 5:6

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Just For Dads: Be A Positive Christian Role Model – Day 7

Let’s choose to live our lives humbly submitted to God! Let’s choose to live our lives with humility and allow God to lift us up at the right time rather than walking around with pride and arrogance and being brought down! Let’s ask Jesus into our hearts in order to receive a new heart and be able to live our lives in alignment and in relationship with God! Could today be your day for this new beginning? Could today be your day to live differently? Invite Jesus into your heart! Invite Jesus into your life and situation! Pursue Him with all you have and see God’s hand lead and guide you beyond anything you could ever ask or imagine!

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email.

THRIVE: Let’s get it done!

As I wake up this morning I see a list of todos in front of me with excitement and energy. As I look ahead and see how busy work is and how busy life is I am excited to see God’s hand at work across all the areas of my life. Be it work with planning and preparing, meeting and learning, driving and executing. Be it life with training plans, camp plans, college plans, family plans, travel plans, and graduation plans. Both are busy and as I like to joke with people it helps me stay balanced. So as we get today going, let’s be focused, putting first things first, seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness so that we can get it done in alignment and accordance with His perfect will and plan and purpose for our lives and allow God to help carry the load and get it done for His glory!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. ‘

Proverbs 18:21

Today’s post from Be The Dads is
UNCOMMEN: Dads 2 – Day 1

Are you ready to go beyond just being a hearer of the Word to being a doer for the Word? Are you ready to get your to-dos into to-dones? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your situation and ask Him for wisdom to help you live your life to the full as He desires? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and allow Him to lead and guide you through your day?

THRIVE: What will make it click and take off?

So you get to listen and try to absorb. You get to participate and ask questions. You get to see people in action. Now it is time to go deeper from knowledge to understanding so that this understanding comes will be the triggering mechanism to help things rocket off, finding the power to propel us forward and thrive for the glory of God! Understanding is so powerful as it can help us get to forgiveness when needed! Understanding is so powerful because it can help us respect and honor others better! Understanding is so powerful because it can bring joy and happiness! So today, let’s lean into what God has to say and make sure we don’t just know about God but rather we know God and live to understand Him intimately! Let’s lean into what God is speaking to us so that we aren’t just people who are hearers or readers of the Word but rather people who understand and become doers of the Word!

THRIVE: It’s time to get things started…

Let’s be people who live authentic lives and don’t try to make decisions or choices for others. Why should you limit them by thinking they will say no rather than hopefully thinking they will say yes? Why would you limit them because of your own doubts or fears? Why not share what God is and has done in and through your life rather than allow others to make the decision for themselves if they want to start their own personal relationship with God or not! It’s the beginning of a new workweek and this one feels different. It’s the beginning of a new workweek and it feels like wrapping up in some ways and getting started in others. So I give this day into God’s hands and ask Him to provide me the wisdom and discernment I will need to make it through this day. I give this day into God’s hands and ask Him to provide the protection and health I will need to make it through this day. This is the day that the Lord has made so I will rejoice and be glad in it! I will lean on God more than my own understanding! I will acknowledge God so that He can make my path straight! Thank You Jesus for not leaving me wondering but rather answering my prayer and making the decision clear. Thank You, Lord, for helping me to be able to evaluate and move forward in alignment with Your direction. You are amazing Lord and I am so excited for what is yet to come while at the same time looking to make the most of today which is the present, a gift from You. Help me Lord to live out my today in a way that will bring You the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’s name. Help me Lord to live out my today accomplishing the good works You have prepared in advance for me to do so that when I get them done people will see the good works and give the praise, the honor, and the glory to You, praising my Heavenly Father!

Verse of the Day:

‘One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. ‘

Psalms 27:4

So are you ready for this day? Are you ready to find your purpose? Are you ready to find your calling? Are you ready to live out your today for the glory of God? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life and ask Him for wisdom and discernment? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life and ask Him for direction and purpose? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life so that you can be filled with His Spirit and overflow into the world around you? Are you wondering or wanting to have Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email or text.

Let’s Pray!

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven. At this moment I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Father, I take you at your word. I thank you that I can face death now that you are my Savior. Thank you for the assurance that you will walk with me through the deep valley. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

THRIVE: Choose to get started today!

This is the day that the Lord has made, so let us rejoice and be glad in it! Let’s not be paralyzed by fear of the future but instead let’s make the most of our today! Let’s keep focused on what we can do today because tomorrow is not promised! Let’s focus on today rather than worrying about tomorrow because tomorrow will have enough to worry about! So let’s choose to start thriving today! How about physically? Let’s start our workout routine we have stopped and been putting off! How out spiritually? Let’s start a bible reading routine so we can dig deeper into scripture and understand God’s Word and His Word for us today! How about mentally? Let’s look into what we need to know, to learn, to be ready and grow! How about emotionally? Let’s take inventory of the things that will help us grow and flourish emotionally! In the midst of all of this let’s combine them in a way that will help us to take new ground in spite of or because of our current circumstances around us!

TODAY! This is the day the Lord has made! Let’s work as unto the Lord! Let’s be good stewards! Let’s lean in on God because we can trust Him and we know that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it! Let’s persevere no matter what obstacles get in front of us, no matter what struggles we are facing, no matter what trials we must walkthrough, and no matter what troubles come our way because we know that Jesus is with us and that we can take heart because Jesus has overcome the world! Let’s choose unity over self and walk it out at the speed of health so that the relationships will end up better and stronger than ever before!

Happy Today!!
Be sensitive to the Spirit, so you can walk out today with wisdom and discernment!
So happy today... no special reason... I just choose to be.
Happy Today!
Assumption 1: You are alive
Assumption 2: No matter what happens
For all Todays = Happy!!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’

Matthew 6:34

Today’s post from Be The Dads is The Way of the Father: Lessons From My Dad, Truths About God – 5

We have been created on purpose, with purpose, and for a purpose! We have been uniquely created for this life and we get to choose if we will answer the call and be who God created us to be! We need to answer the call in order to thrive for the glory of God! Are you ready? Have you asked God about why He created you? Have you asked God why He created you with the gifts, skills, and talents He has given you? Have you asked God what He wants you to do? Are you ready to find out? Would you consider digging into God’s Word? Would you consider going through a book like The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren? Would you consider going through a book like The Cause within You: Finding the One Great Thing God Created You to Do in This World by Matthew Barnett. Why not get your journey started by inviting Jesus into your heart? Why not get started with allowing the Holy Spirit to be your comforter and your guide? Why not get started today?

THRIVE: When you don’t know what to do, do what you know to do.

When things don’t seem clear and you aren’t sure what to do, do what you know to do. God has given you directions so do that. God has given you wisdom so do that. God has given you hope so do that. God has a plan so do that. God has a purpose so do that. And in God’s timing, which is perfect, you will know what to do and then you can step up, step out, and do it. Be it at work! Be it at home! Be it somewhere in between! Let’s capture what God has for us to do today in the midst of the world being shaken and do it! Let’s capture what God has for us to do today so that we are doing the right things when the only thing left is unshakable and do it!

For me, that means I get to be the dad my wife needs me to be. For me, that means I get to be the dad my kids need me to be. For me, that means I get to focus on preparing for what is yet to come like scripts, decks, and videos that speak to men, youth, and kids about the importance and the responsibility of being the dads this world needs.

Verse of the Day:

‘Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. ‘

1 John 3:18

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Killing Sin – Day 2

Where are you today? Are you ready to lean in on God to be able to do what you know to do in the midst of uncertain times? Are you ready to lean in on God to be able to do what you know to do in the midst of shaky times? Are you not sure what to do? Are you not sure how to do it? The answer is to turn back to God and lean in on Him for wisdom and discernment, direction and instruction, so that in everything you do He will receive the praise, the honor, and the glory and it will be for your good.

If you pray today’s prayer with me feel free to let me know so I can pray with you and for you too. (If you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then you can always try email or text.

Let’s Pray!

Dear God
I admit I am a sinner and need your forgiveness; I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place paying the penalty for my sins. I am willing right now to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord. I commit myself to you and ask you to send the Holy Spirit into my life, to fill me and take control, and to help me become the kind of person you want me to be. Thank You Father for loving me. In Jesus' name.
Amen.

THRIVE: So there is a change in direction and so you provide input, …

The first day of the workweek is behind us. I grabbed the concept, the direction, the idea and produced recommendations to support it. So much change is taking place and yet with the final update published my final destination (from a reporting structure) is unclear. The good news is that my final destination (for eternity has been decided). So I lean into God for wisdom and direction! I lean into God for strength the press in and persevere. I lean into God to know what’s next and trust in Him for the perfect answer in the perfect timing and that He will help me walk through each day till the timing is right. In the new world, who can I talk to? In this new world even though I have a past and a history with people does this new change mean I have to hold back or stop reaching out to help? In this new world with so much decided and yet feeling like I am missing the why. When we consider what has been and is now taking place in this world, the words of the book of Hebrews comes to mind where it says:

‘At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”’

Hebrews 12:26-29

Even in looking up and looking at “everything that can be shaken will be shaken” another scripture showed up:

‘“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘

Haggai 2:6-7

Do you feel the shaking taking place in and around your life? What things do you need to let go of or give away? What things do you need to hold onto? Ever considered what things really matter and will last? It’s not the stuff! It’s the people! Even when we consider the gifts of God faith, hope, and love will last and the greatest of these is love. As we consider and contemplate this today will it change the way we choose to live out our today? No matter the struggles that come our way we need to remember that our struggles aren’t against flesh and blood but rather against powers and principalities of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. We can’t lose hope when we face these struggles but instead, we need to consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kinds remembering that it is building our faith and that when we persevere and allow perseverance to finish its work we will be complete and lacking nothing. Struggles aren’t for the few but rather Jesus even warned us that “in this world we will have troubles” but He also provides us with a word of hope and He says “but take heart for I have overcome the world“.

So it’s the second day of the workweek. There is an emergency to take care of. There is change and shaking taking place. So let’s not lose hope but instead persevere! Let’s not lose hope but instead put our trust in and lean on God! Let’s not lose hope but instead choose unity at the speed of health to ensure we can all make it through this together.

Verse of the Day:

‘She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. ‘

THRIVE: Workweek is over and still decisions to be made…

Let us take hold of the reality of what we have learned through the book of Exodus when it comes to THRIVING and allow God’s Word to help us as we look ahead and into the future of this life. We learned about risk-taking, getting out of the boat, and allowing God to do new things in our lives, God answers prayer, and God is near to His people. We learned that God’s deepest work can come out through our trials, troubles, and pain. We learned how we are closer to a breakthrough than we think even during what we are going through. Just like the turbulence right before breaking through the sound barrier, life can get bumpy right before the breakthrough. During the struggle, we need to trust God and His choice of us for this calling and purpose rather than thinking we are the wrong choice. We need to trust God even when we do not understand. We need to keep turning to God when we do not know what to do or where to go. We need to fight our way through the pain, fear, and unbelief. God is in control! Do not give up! Lean in, kneel, and call out to God. We have learned the importance of picking our battles. We need to choose to fight the fight of trust – that God is good even when our circumstances are not. We need to choose to fight the fight of perseverance – to keep going and not quit (do not give in to the doubts and fears the devil is trying to use to get you to quit). We need to choose to fight the fight for unity – to move forward at the speed of health. We learned the why! It is important to know why! Why did God put Egypt through the plagues? Because He wanted to answer Pharoah’s question “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.” Egypt had a god for everything, and the plagues demonstrated that God was over and of them because they were not real gods. We need to understand WHY. Could simplification be the answer? What does that say and what does that mean for and to you? We learned the importance of leaving the things behind us to move forward to the things God has for us. We learned the importance of leaving the mistakes and trials of the past behind us. We learned the need to let go of the struggles and pains of the past. We learned the importance to instruct our kids. We learned God is so for you – taking you right where you are and leading you into a new beginning. We cannot get stuck in the past and not step up and step out into what God has planned for us. We need to do what we have to do to get where God needs us to be. We learned that we need to wake up to the reality of what is taking place instead of getting stuck we need to act. We need to pray and call on God rather than absorbing or accepting failure around us. We need to be able to accept success and breakthroughs when it is right in front of us. We cannot allow the fear of the unknown or the future to become our master again. We learned how we must let God make the change and take hold of the reality that God is able to exceedingly, abundantly more than you can ask or imagine. We learned how God wants to forgive you so much He came after you. He did all the work himself. Just needed to accept the gift. Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved. We learned how God gave the cloud and the fire to comfort them. Do not let your heart be troubled. God has a change and a new way for you. God will stand between you and the enemy. We learned how today by faith in Christ you can be forgiven and start the journey with Him. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He will lead you and guide you. He will come behind you to watch your back. We learned that we need to do what God is telling us to do. We need to stop going backward. We need to stop surrendering when we are on the verge of a breakthrough. Start moving towards what God is calling you to. Dare to sow, to pray, to give your best. The things you can do so do it. We learned how God had the wind stack up the water into walls and dried the ground. Let us keep our eyes on the Lord and keep moving towards what He is showing us and telling us. Pharaoh woke up to a supply chain issue – he questioned why he let them go and just because one day their eyes may be opened to the reality of the situation, it does not mean that we should not be moving forward into the promised land and glory had prepared in advance for us to step into. God does not send you to hell, He opened the door to forgiveness and heaven, and we need to choose the final destination. You are the only one who can keep you from eternal life with God and forgiveness.

So, what is next for you? What will you decide? Are you ready to accept the change and move from surviving into thriving? Are you ready to receive what God has prepared in advance for you to do. Are you ready to accomplish the good works God has prepared in advance for you to do. Will you accept the calling? Will you step up and step out for the glory of God? The choice is yours! We have freewill and we can choose to be used by God or to abdicate our responsibility and calling. Remember the story of Esther and how she was called to save her people? Remember the story of when the people were praising Jesus and when told to tell them to stop, He answered that if they stopped the rocks would cry out

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. ‘

THRIVE: Do what you know to do when you don’t know what to do. Finish strong!

I am so grateful for a loving and caring God. I am so thankful that He knows what I need even before I can ask. I am so thankful that He loves me so much that He gave me His Word. I am so thankful that He loves me so much that He gave His one and only Son. I am so thankful that He loves me so much that He doesn’t want me to go it alone and so He not only give me one another but also His Holy Spirit to be my comforter and my guide. So, what to do when you don’t know what to do? You do what you know how to do and turn to God and ask for His wisdom and discernment, for His leading and guiding, so that you can move forward for the glory of His kingdom.

Can you believe it is the end of the workweek already? Let’s finish the week strong! Let’s give our day into God’s hand to help us navigate not only the information that will come our way but also the time we spend today with others, on projects, etc. Let’s choose to live today in a way that will glorify God! Let’s trust God knowing that whatever is going on it will be for His glory and our good! Let’s persevere as we move forward not giving up and not giving in to the lies or tricks of the devil. Let’s work for unity in health so that in and through it all God will be lifted up and glorified and others will see it and glorify our Father in heaven.

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. ‘

John 14:26

Today’s post from Be The Dads is Father Like The Father – Day 2

So are you ready to finish the week strong? Are you looking to figure out what to do? Are there many open questions? Is there uncertainty taking place? Let’s lean in on God! Let’s trust in God! Let’s not think we can figure it all out but instead turn to God and ask the Holy Spirit to help us! Let’s invite God into our life situation.

THRIVE: What to do when you don’t know what to do?

The short answer is: Do what you know to do.

Today, as I enjoy the weekend with my family the workweek, has finished and yet the news/answers didn’t come. So what is going to happen? Don’t know! What will we do? Don’t know! Where will we be? Don’t know! But I do know what my team does and so we will keep doing that to the best of our abilities in order to not only support the various teams across the company but also produce the best-localized content we can for our customers, shoppers, and visitors.

So are you having to deal with unknowns? Are you having to deal with uncertainties? Are you having to deal with changes? Are you having to deal with obstacles? Are you having to deal lack of clarity? Are you having to deal with a lack of direction? So what are you going to do?

Do what you know how to do! Invite God into the situation and do what you know how to do!

Today’s Verse of the Day:

‘Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. ‘

Proverbs 13:20

Today’s post from Be The Dads is The Daring Dad – Day 1.

So what are you dealing with today? Is God your go-to? Is God where you turn when you are facing uncertain times? Is God where you turn when you are facing challenging times? Is God where you turn when you are facing change? Are you ready to open that door to start a conversation and relationship with God so that not only can you be engaged to the world but allow God to engage with you in the midst of the trials, the troubles, the challenges, and the change? Let’s invite Jesus into our situation and walk it out with Him! God doesn’t want us to leave Him out of it but rather He desires to be with us, He is going before us, He is walking with us, He will never leave us nor forsake us, and so we just need to invite Him.

Let’s Pray!

Amen.

Today’s Reading from God’s Word:

Ever had someone do something or say something that made you blush?

What they said or did, did you blush because you were ashamed? What they said or did, did you blush because it was of a sexual or intimate nature? What they said or did, did you blush because it was about something private or personal? What they said or did, did you blush because it was embarrassing, humiliating, discouraging, or mortifying? What they said or did, did you blush because it was an unexpected compliment? What they said or did, did you blush because it was flirtatious? What they said or did, did you blush because they were teasing you? What they said or did, did you blush because they brought up an inside joke in front of other people?

What makes you blush? When was the last time you blushed? Do you realize that people who blush more easily are perceived as more trustworthy? Ever heard that people who blush more easily are more empathetic and generous? Ever heard how people who blush more have a higher rate of monogamy?

Ever considered what it says about you when you blush? Ever considered what it says about you when you make others blush? Is what you are saying appropriate? Is what you are hearing appropriate? Is it the right place or the right time for such topics or conversations?

Don’t Blush

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”’

Mark 8:38

Let’s get more context on what is being discussed in today’s verse. Let’s expand on this using the verses leading up to this point as well as the Amplified version.

‘Then Jesus and His disciples went out to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He asked His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” They answered Him, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.” And He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter replied to Him, “You [in contrast to the others] are the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed).” Then Jesus strictly warned them not to tell anyone about Him. And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must [of necessity] suffer many things and be rejected [as the Messiah] by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and must be put to death, and after three days rise [from death to life]. He was stating the matter plainly [not holding anything back]. Then Peter took Him aside and began to reprimand Him. But turning around [with His back to Peter] and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan; for your mind is not set on God’s will or His values and purposes, but on what pleases man.” Jesus called the crowd together with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]. For whoever wishes to save his life [in this world] will [eventually] lose it [through death], but whoever loses his life [in this world] for My sake and the gospel’s will save it [from the consequences of sin and separation from God]. For what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world [with all its pleasures], and forfeit his soul? For what will a man give in exchange for his soul and eternal life [in God’s kingdom]? For whoever is ashamed [here and now] of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”’

Mark 8:27-38

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • When you consider things to be ashamed of, do you ever think of God?
  • Have you actually found freedom from shame through Jesus?
  • You don’t want to be ashamed of your rescuer right?
  • Will you share what Jesus has done in, to, and through you?
  • Will you speak up and speak out or will you keep quiet?
  • What is the cause or the trigger of fear that keeps you from sharing the Good News of Jesus?
  • Will you exercise your faith in order to strengthen it and not allow it to be weak?
  • Will you exercise your faith so that rather than trying to please man you will choose to live a life that is pleasing to God?
  • Remember what happened to the religious leaders back in John?
    • ‘Nevertheless, even many of the leading men believed in Him [as Savior and Messiah], but because of the Pharisees they would not confess it, for fear that [if they acknowledged Him openly] they would be put out of the synagogue (excommunicated); for they loved the approval of men more than the approval of God. ‘ — John 12:42-43
  • So will you be more focused on pleasing God who created you on purpose, with purpose, and for a purpose or will you be focused on pleasing the people who walk into your day?
  • Will you choose to speak up and speak out when you are with others?
  • Will you look for excuses and try to rationalize why you shouldn’t speak up?
  • Will you choose to speak the truth in love? Or keep quiet?
  • Do you realize when it is time to speak vs when it is time to keep quiet?
  • Are you being quiet out of obedience to the Holy Spirit or out of the fear of man?
  • Remember how words have power? So we need to be wise when we choose to speak vs keeping quiet.
  • Let’s consider God’s Word for times to be quiet:
    • ‘For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. ‘ 1 Peter 3:10
    • ‘Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues. ‘ — Proverbs 10:19
    • ‘Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue. ‘ — Proverbs 11:12
    • ‘Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.’ — Proverbs 17:28
    • ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. ‘ — Galatians 5:22-23
  • So is it out of self-control that you are keeping quiet rather than fear?
  • Remember how Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us! He is right there as much as the person is and so we can’t or shouldn’t use the excuse that the other person was there.
  • Jesus is with us in every conversation, every place, and every situation!
  • So before we speak or keep quiet, let’s seek wisdom from God and allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide and direct us!
  • Let’s remember and reflect on what Jesus had done for us so that we can be like Joshua and be bold and courageous!
  • Remember how lost we were and how Jesus found us!
  • Remember how we were wandering in the darkness and Jesus was the light!
  • Remember how we were condemned to spend eternity apart from God and how Jesus has given us eternal life!
  • Remember how were were prisoners without hope and how Jesus set us free!
  • Let’s focus on what Jesus has done in and through us so that we are filled up to overflowing and can pour into the lives of the people God brings across our path!
  • Not sure what to do? Ask Jesus!
  • Not sure what to say? Ask Jesus!
  • It takes but a moment to get the answer!
  • Don’t be ashamed of Him or blush because of Him!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • When have you been bold for Christ, and when have you been ashamed?
  • How will reflecting on His grace and His presence help you be bold?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“You do not have to be a theologian or a Bible scholar to share your faith and teach a class of small children. If we wait until we know evertyhing before we start sharing we will never share because no one knows all the mysteries of God.”

Ziglar, Zig

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you today? What do you know? What do you share? What would you need to know? Don’t be embarrassed by God! Share what He is and has done in and through you! Share because you care where others will end up! Share what you do know! Share your testimony of how you were before you met Jesus, when you met Jesus, and how your life is different since you met Jesus! Do you realize the benefits of a relationship with Jesus? Are you ready to start your journey? Are you ready to strengthen your journey? Are you ready to solidify your destination and destiny? Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father
I come to you in prayer asking for the
forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my
mouth and believe with my heart that
Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the
Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven.
and have Eternal Life in the Kingdom of
Heaven. Father, I believe that Jesus rose
from the dead and I ask you right now to
come in to my life and be my personal
Lord and Savior. I repent of my Sins and
will Worship you all the day's of my Life!
Because your word is truth, I confess with
my mouth that I am Born Again and

Let’s not grow weary in doing good!

Ever found how life can get busy? Ever found how your emotions can get in the way of moving forward? Ever found that you can get tired while doing good? Ever found that you can get discouraged if you aren’t seeing fruit from doing good? Ever found that others may say or do things to try and get you to stop doing good? Let’s consider what God’s Word says about doing good and plant our feet on that.

It is interesting the number of posts I found about the Bible verses on “doing good” like:

Let’s start with the one that motivated my title today and check out a few others too:

  • And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. — Galatians 6:9
  • Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. — Psalm 37:3
  • In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. — Matthew 5:16
  • For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. — Ephesians 2:10
  • What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. — James 2:14-17
  • So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. — James 4:17
  • So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. — Galatians 6:10
  • As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good. — 2 Thessalonians 3:13
  • Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. — Hebrews 13:16

So as you go out today, how much of what you think, say, and do is in your control? Well, God’s Word tells us that in as much as we have the opportunity, let us do good to everyone! So are you ready or getting prepared for this new day so that in every opportunity you will do good to everyone? Will it be easy? Nope, but nobody ever said life would be easy, but Jesus did say it would be worth it. Will we face troubles that try to hold us back and stop us from doing good? Jesus tells us that in this world we will have troubles but that we can take heart because He has overcome the world! Will we have trials to deal with and that will try to stop us from moving forward and doing good? God’s Word tells us to consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kinds because we know that the testing of our faith produces perseverance and that when perseverance has completed its work we will be mature, complete, and lacking nothing! So be it trouble that tries to knock you off track and keep you from doing good or a trial that tries to keep you from keeping that can do good attitude, don’t lose hope but instead put your trust in Jesus and persevere so that in and through it all we can do good that will bring praise, honor, and glory to God!

This is the day that the Lord has made, so let’s rejoice and be glad in it! Let’s do it! (it = good)

Get Busy

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.’

Titus 3:8

Let’s try to grab some additional context by starting at the beginning of this chapter and using the Amplified version for some additional insights:

‘Remind people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready and willing to do good, to slander or abuse no one, to be kind and conciliatory and gentle, showing unqualified consideration and courtesy toward everyone. For we too once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various sinful desires and pleasures, spending and wasting our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. But when the goodness and kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared [in human form as the Man, Jesus Christ], He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we have done, but because of His own compassion and mercy, by the cleansing of the new birth (spiritual transformation, regeneration) and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out richly upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that we would be justified [made free of the guilt of sin] by His [compassionate, undeserved] grace, and that we would be [acknowledged as acceptable to Him and] made heirs of eternal life [actually experiencing it] according to our hope (His guarantee). This is a faithful and trustworthy saying; and concerning these things I want you to speak with great confidence, so that those who have believed God [that is, those who have trusted in, relied on, and accepted Christ Jesus as Savior,] will be careful to participate in doing good and honorable things. These things are excellent [in themselves] and profitable for the people. But avoid foolish and ill-informed and stupid controversies and genealogies and dissensions and quarrels about the Law, for they are unprofitable and useless. After a first and second warning reject a divisive man [who promotes heresy and causes dissension—ban him from your fellowship and have nothing more to do with him], well aware that such a person is twisted and is sinning; he is convicted and self-condemned [and is gratified by causing confusion among believers]. ‘

Titus 3:1-11

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Ever heard that faith without works is dead?
  • Are you ready to take a stand?
  • Will you stand for something before you start to fall for everything?
  • Will you decide to be bold and courageous in your faith by being a doer?
  • Are you ready to take action in alignment with God’s commands?
  • Are you ready to love? sincerely?
  • Are you ready to forgive? those who hurt you?
  • Are you ready to help? the weak?
  • Are you ready to associate with others? outside of your group? status? club?
  • Are you ready to study? the scripture?
  • Are you ready to give? give generously?
  • Are you ready to speak up and speak out? words that will build others up?
  • Are you ready to reach out? to those in need?
  • Are you ready to do the good works God is calling you to do?
  • Are you ready to take action?
  • Are you ready to take that risk?
  • Are you ready to see God do amazing things because of your obedience and faith?
  • Are you ready to to do the right thing at the right time for the right reason?
  • Are you ready to move forward in order to try to do the above and learn from the experience in order keep growing and moving forward?
  • Are you ready to be a part of someone else’s life being touched, changed, transformed by the love of Jesus?
  • Are you ready to be that hand reaching out?
  • Are you ready to speak up for Jesus?

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • What commands can you take action to obey today?
  • What can you expect from God and from yourself when you move ahead?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

Feelings follow actions. So when you don’t really want to or feel like doing what needs to be done – do it and then you will feel like doing it.

Zig Ziglar

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you today? Are you ready to be doing good? Are you ready to do good even when you don’t feel like it? Are you ready to do good even when you are facing trials or troubles? Are you ready to do good whenever you get the opportunity? Are you ready to do good in every opportunity for everyone? Let’s be doers of the Word! Need some help? Why not invite God into the situation? Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father

forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my
mouth and believe with my heart that

Definition of doubt as found in answer on Bing for define fear

It is interesting to see that fear comes up in the definition of doubt and doubt comes up in the definition of fear. Fear shows up in the definition of doubt when you speak of doubt as a verb. Doubt shows up in the definition of fear when you speak of fear as a noun.

So as we consider these two and the similarities and the differences, we find that fear can be a good thing but doubt is not. A healthy fear keeps you aware, ready, and can even save your life. Doubt on the other hand causes a gap, a void, a hesitation that stops you in your tracks. A healthy fear can keep you from getting hurt. A healthy fear can help you stay in touch with reality. A healthy fear can notify you of danger. A healthy fear can point out when something is out of place. Doubt isn’t helpful at all! Doubt doesn’t provide you with any good. Doubt causes you to become disheartened, dejected, downcast, and even cause depression. Doubt tries to undermine you. Doubt tries to sap you of your joy and your energy. Doubt tries to corrupt what is good, what is true, what is right. Doubt tries to pervert reality. These lies and deception cause self-doubt. Doubt tries to kill your dreams!

So how will you bring positive to the situation? How will you choose to prioritize and live your life so that there is a healthy fear but not allow doubt to rob you of your hope, your joy, and your future? Where will you turn for hope, encouragement, and love? Where will you go to get filled up with love and from the fountain that can keep you full? Are you ready to live life to the full like God’s plan for you is defined?

Let’s reflect on this reality through God’s Word before we jump into today’s devotional:

‘But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’

Matthew 6:33-34

‘Delight yourself in the Lord, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart. ‘

Psalms 37:4

‘I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.] ‘

Philippians 4:13

‘The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]. ‘

John 10:10

‘For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the L ord , ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. ‘

Jeremiah 29:11

‘You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.’

Psalms 16:11

‘Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, ‘

Colossians 3:23

‘Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit [your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance, and patience] be known to all people. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]. ‘

Philippians 4:4-7

‘Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, “ I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” ‘

John 8:12

‘ “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.”’

Matthew 11:28-30

So let’s turn to God for wisdom and discernment. Let’s trust in God in awe and wonder. Let’s take hold of His truth and His promise so as to be able to live our lives according to His plans and live our lives to the full!

No Doubt Allowed

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. ‘

James 1:6

Let’s expand on this a bit and use the Amplified version to get better context:

‘ James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, T o the twelve [Hebrew] tribes [scattered abroad among the Gentiles] in the dispersion: Greetings (rejoice)! Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind. For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides]. ‘

James 1:1-8

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • James shared how we will face trials and how we can consider it pure joy through the process, walking it out with God.
    • ‘Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing. ‘
      James 1:2-4
  • Jesus shared that we are going to face troubles in our lives but that we can take heart because we trust in Him.
    • ‘I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]’
      John 16:33
  • There is benefit to trusting God in the midst of trials and troubles.
  • There is benefit to trusting God in the midst of challenging and difficult times!
  • Problems, Trials, Troubles test our faith!
  • It is in the crucible times when things heat up we develop endurance and perseverance!
  • It is in the crucible times that our faith is built up as we lean in and trust God rather than our own understanding!
  • In these times our faith expands and matures!
  • In these times we grow spiritually!
  • Through these times our trust in God gets stronger!
  • It prepares us to be able to trust God through it all!
  • So rather than trying to go it alone, we need to seek God’s wisdom and direction!
  • Let’s ask God for wisdom and discernment so as to be able to understand the process and the purpose!
  • Let’s invite God into our situation so that we can get the purpose, the plan, and walk through the process!
  • Let’s not doubt but rather ask for wisdom that He promises to give us abundantly and without fault!
  • Let’s trust God and ask Him confidently!
  • Are you like me when I start to doubt when trouble rears its head?
  • Have you ever doubted your abilities? your understanding? other people’s motives? the path forward? or even God’s goodness?
  • Let’s put our focus on God instead of the problem!
  • Let’s remember our God is bigger than our problems!
  • Let’s stop trying to figure it all out on our own and instead turn to God quicker, sooner, earlier, so that we can lean on Him, we can cast our cares on Him, we can receive His wisdom abundantly!
  • Let’s grab a hold of our anchor, our rock who is Jesus Christ so that we won’t be getting tossed and turned like the waves!
  • Let’s build our lives on the rock who is Jesus Christ rather than the sand so that when the waves and wind come our ways, we have solid footing!
  • So let’s ask in faith, humbly admitting to God that we don’t have the answers and what we need is Him!
  • Let’s turn to God for wisdom so that we have a plan, a process, and a purpose and don’t need to get ourselves wrapped in the paralysis that is doubt or caused by doubt!
  • Let’s trust in God’s perfect timing and will and way to answer the problem and situation that we are facing!
  • Let’s trust in God so much that we ask rather than demand in our prayers!
  • Let’s trust in God so much that we ask confidently, trusting that He will answer!
  • Let’s be ready to turn to God’s Word for wisdom and encouragement during the wait!
  • Let’s act when God says GO!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • Describe situations when you felt confused and needed God’s wisdom. Did you ask “in faith”?
  • How would you explain what it means to ask for God’s wisdom without doubting?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“God’s laws work all of the time, not just some of the time, and they work whether you believe in them or not.”

Confessions of a Happy Christian
By Ziglar, Zig · 1978

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you at today? Are you living a life of healthy fear? Are you living a life in awe and wonder of God? Are you allowing the enemy of your soul to try and rob you of joy and peace by replacing it with doubt? Are you ready to trust God at His Word? Are you ready to turn to God and invite Him into your very situation? Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father
I come to you in prayer asking for the
forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my
mouth and believe with my heart that
Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the
Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven.
and have Eternal Life in the Kingdom of
Heaven. Father, I believe that Jesus rose
from the dead and I ask you right now to
come in to my life and be my personal
Lord and Savior. I repent of my Sins and
will Worship you all the day's of my Life!
Because your word is truth, I confess with
my mouth that I am Born Again and
Cleansed by the Blood of Jesus! In Jesus

Don’t Kid Yourself

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. ‘

James 1:22
POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Are you a good listener?
  • Are you a good understander?
  • Are you a good implementer?
  • Are you a good planner?
  • Are you a good doer?
  • Sitting in a class doesn’t make you a student.
  • Sitting in a garage doesn’t make us a car.
  • Sitting in a church doesn’t make us a Christian.
  • Have you had an encounter with Jesus? Have you been transformed and started a real relationship with Him?
  • How often to you go and hear something but later when asked about it you realize you weren’t listening very well?
  • How often do you go and hear something committed to learning and obeying and finding that you listened and have something you can now apply?
  • Being committed to obeying opens the door to sharpen our minds.
  • Being committed to obeying opens the door to being able to put the truth into action.
  • Are you ok with just knowing what you are supposed to do?
  • Are you ok with being able to apply that knowledge in the world around you?
  • Do you prefer to be a hearer or a doer?
  • Are you ready to absorb the truth in order to allow it to transform your life?
  • Are you ready to absorb the truth in order to allow your response to life to change?
  • Are you ready to commit to doing what you learn about the truth?
  • Are you ready to do what you are being called to do?
  • Are you ready to take that knowledge and apply it in the world you live today?
  • Let’s decide to be doers of the Word today rather than just hearers of it!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • Are you a doer or only a hearer? Explain your answer.
  • Have you made the decision to represent Christ? How does (or will) that decision change how you listen to truth?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“The last temptation is the greatest treason: to do the right deed for the wrong reason.”

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you at today? What is your view of the truth? What is your reason or as I’ve heard some say “raison d’être“? Are you living out your life as a doer of the Word? Are you living out your life as a hearer of the Word? Have you decided to receive Jesus into your heart? Have you chosen to go beyond hearing and reading about Jesus to starting a real relationship with Him? Could today be your day? Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father
I come to you in prayer asking for the
forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my
mouth and believe with my heart that

Shhh… Did you hear that? Let’s listen…

Ever taken time to sit quietly and listen? Ever taken time to listen after you pray? Ever made quiet time to be able to hear from God? Can you find a place that is quiet enough for God to speak through a still small voice? Or will it take a big booming voice to get your attention and your obedience? Let’s consider Elijah’s experience for a moment:

‘Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord .” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord , but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.’

I Kings 19:11-12

I remember the still small voice that day after day after day while I was driving to and from work telling me that I needed to step up and become president of my home owners association and I kept coming up with answers, reasons, and excuses why I wasn’t qualified enough to do it. You ever had such an experience where you think you know better than God and so you decline the opportunity for something so big, so amazing, so incredible because you have reasons, explanations, and excuses why you aren’t qualified or able to be obedient and do what God is asking and telling you to do? If you want to see change, you want to experience revival then you need to be obedient to what God is saying to you like we read in Acts 1:1-5.

‘The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” ‘

Acts 1:1-5

If you want to see change, you want to experience revival then you need to be a seeker of what God is doing like we read in Acts 1:12.

‘Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.’

Acts 1:12-14

If you want to see change, you want to experience revival then you need to surrender to what God is doing like we read in Acts 2.

‘When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.’

Acts 2:1-4

If you want to see change, you want to experience revival then you need to wake up and walk out what God has given you to do like we read in Acts 3.

‘Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God. Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.’

Acts 3:1-10

Did you hear that? Stop and let things get quiet and listen for the still small voice to help you right where you are at today. Take hold of that instruction, that direction, that correction, that comfort. Meditate on it and measure it up against the Word of God! Then get ready and walk it out.

I know in my story, I resisted the still small voice in the call to become president and it required a big booming voice for me to stop making excuses and to accept and receive God’s calling on my life. And I don’t regret it and it has helped me grow and trust God more and more each day. God is good! God’s plan for us is good! God’s plan is to give us a hope and a future! So when He calls us to it, He will get us through it! Will you have the faith to trust? Will you have the faith to believe? Will you find a place where you can listen carefully to what God is asking you to do?

Shhh… Let’s get quiet and listen to hear what God has to say. Let’s be obedient! Let’s be seekers! Let’s surrender our thoughts, our worries, our fears to God and cast our cares on Him because He cares for us! And then let’s get moving with God, not on our own nor in our own strength, trusting and following God’s instructions and directions, and He will help us accomplish His will, just like He did when He called me to step up and step in to being president of a homeowners association of over ten thousand people and has many times since. He gave me instructions and directions to be able to manage executive staff, hiring staff, hiring an accounting company, working with the insurance company, handling security, and so much more. Even when I was getting to the last chance to obey, He gave me the choice to choose to be president or to be nothing, the choice was mine to make. God is faithful! Put your trust in Him!

Listen Carefully

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.’

Isaiah 30:21

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Can you focus when there is background noise?
  • Can you listen when there is music playing?
  • What if it was a quiet voice?
  • Are you able to turn out that sound like it is white noise?
  • Are you able to focus on what you are doing and not be bothered by the background sounds?
  • What if that sound was the voice of the Holy Spirit, are you running the risk of missing what He is saying?
  • Are you so focused on what is in front of you that you are missing out on what He is trying to tell you?
  • Is that part of the problem with what is going on in this world today? Are too many people tuning God out?
  • We read throughout history about the times where the people of Israel had grown tired of God’s repeated pleas and turned Him out.
  • God didn’t quit though.
  • He persisted in speaking to them to show them the areas of their lives that needed help and that they needed to turn away from and turn back to Him for.
  • Remember what love is from 1 Corinthians 13? Remember how God is love from 1 John 4?
    • ‘He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.’ — I John 4:8,16
    • ‘Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. ‘ — I Corinthians 13:4-8
  • We may tune God out but He never tunes us out!
  • Let’s take hold of today’s memory verse and how the Holy Spirit speaks a word behind us to gently nudge us in a direction and remind us a truth from God’s Word.
  • Let’s take hold of today’s memory verse and how the Holy Spirit never shouts and never demands but rather always let’s us chose for ourselves.
  • As I learned when I resisted the instruction to forgive, my choice not to forgive came with pain and heartache.
  • Is the voice of the Holy Spirit being drowned out by the noise of our culture?
  • Is the voice of the Holy Spirit being drowned out by the hectic pace of life?
  • Is the voice of the Holy Spirit being drowned out by the demands at work or at home?
  • Is the voice of the Holy Spirit being drowned out by the todo lists?
  • Is the voice of the Holy Spirit being drowned out by the stresses of life?
  • Are you ready to find some quiet time in order to be able to hear from the Holy Spirit?
  • Are you ready in the midst of the day to pause just long enough to feel that gentle nudge and hear that soft word?
  • Will it take realizing what you are missing for you to make adjustments in how you live your life?
  • Will you make the time to be able to hear from Him?
  • Will you make the time and invite the Holy Spirit into that time to be able to speak into your life?
  • Will you make practicing listening a part of your life?

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
  • If you aren’t listening enough to the Spirit, what are you missing?
  • What can you do today to carve out time to listen?

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

Never try to explain God until you have obeyed Him.  The only bit of God we understand is the bit we have obeyed.

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So where are you at today? Are you ready to pause? Are you ready to listen? Are you ready to listen carefully? Are you ready to understand? Are you ready to obey? Are you ready to seek? Are you ready to surrender? Are you ready to go and do what God is asking and calling you to do? Let’s pray:

How can you bless someone?

Do you realize the importance of acknowledging others? Do you realize the importance of expressing how valued others are? Do you realize the importance of telling someone you appreciate them? Do you realize the importance of telling someone they did good? Do you realize the importance of celebrating victories with others? Do you realize the importance of celebrating milestones with others? Do you realize that you have a part to play in making sure that everyone in the group is appreciated for the work they do?

So what can you do about it? How can you bless someone today? Now that you know you can’t say you didn’t. Some may think that ignorance is bliss because if you don’t know something then you don’t have to worry about it. Worry changes nothing but prayer changes everything! God doesn’t want us to worry, God wants us to cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us! With all the technology, all the social media, all the broadcast technology that is taking place, it can be a choice to not know. When you think of the word ignorance what comes to mind? Is it any of these words?

incomprehension, unawareness, unconsciousness, inexperience, innocence, unfamiliarity with, lack of enlightenment about, lack of knowledge about, lack of information about, cluelessness, nescience, lack of knowledge, lack of education, unenlightenment, benightedness, lack of intelligence, unintelligence, stupidity, foolishness, idiocy, denseness, brainlessness, mindlessness, slow-wittedness, thickness, dimness, dumbness, dopiness, doziness

So why not turn to God and ask Him for wisdom and discernment? Why not turn to God rather than trying to stick your head in the ground in order to avoid the world? Why not turn to God for health and protection rather than avoiding the opportunity to accomplish His will and plans for your life? Take time to hear from God so that you know the what, the why, the how, the who, the where, and the when and then step up and step out boldly and with courage knowing that God has you protected to get it done His way!

So now that you know how important it is to bless someone, what will you do today? Will you be on the watch to catch someone doing something that you can recognize them for? Will you be on your guard to find something good that your team, your family, and your friends have done? Will you take a half hour to express it?

You are blessed in order that you can be a blessing to others! God blesses you so that you can bless others!

Ignorance is no excuse

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

‘If you say, “Surely we did not know this,” Does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?’

Proverbs 24:12

As I read this and want to learn more, I took a look at the Amplified translation and it goes like this:

‘ If you [profess ignorance and] say, Behold, we did not know this, does not He Who weighs and ponders the heart perceive and consider it? And He Who guards your life, does not He know it? And shall not He render to [you and] every man according to his works?’

Proverbs 24:12

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Don’t make an excuse about it!
  • Will you take accountability for what you have or haven’t done?
  • Will you take responsibility for your mistakes?
  • Will you stop blaming or pointing fingers at others?
  • Don’t make up stories to try and make it look like you didn’t have a choice!
  • God is gracious!
  • God is forgiving!
  • God is also omniscient and omnipresent, so nothing goes unseen!
  • God didn’t miss or not see what happened! God didn’t miss or not know your thoughts!
  • God knows what we know!
  • God knows what our motives are!
  • God is able to take all of that knowledge into consideration when evaluating our responsibility, our guilt, and our accountability!
  • We each will get to give an account for our choices and actions!
  • We each will get to be before the throne of God who is just and gracious and have to deal with the evaluation of our behaviors that will either be rewarded or not!
  • What is your conscience telling you to do?
  • How did you respond when your conscience told you to do or not do something?
  • What does the scripture tell you to do?
  • How did you respond when the scripture told you to do or not do something?
  • Are you reading God’s Word? Are you meditating on God’s Word? Are you living in alignment and accordance to God’s Word?
  • How did you respond when your Christian friends told you to do or not do something?
  • Are you spending time with them or other friends instead?
  • How did you respond to the Holy Spirit when He told you to do or not do something?
  • Will you listen?
  • What would it take for you to listen to such godly guidance?
  • Will you take accountability for what you have done?
  • Will you avoid making up excuses?
  • For Christians, the day of reckoning will evaluate our deeds and motives as believers and have to give an account and no excuse will work!
  • For Christians, the day of reckoning isn’t about the judgment of heaven or hell.
  • Let’s do our part to be able to hear on that day “Well done, good and faithful servant
  • Let’s enter into the joy of God!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
Why is it so easy to make excuses instead of taking responsibility?
  • Redirects the judgment
  • Tries to show that there wasn’t a choice
  • Don’t want to take the blame
What needs to change so that standing before Christ will be a joy for you?
  • Stay grounded in Jesus through His Word in Scripture, Christian friends, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit
  • Decide to be accountable and take responsibility now for what we have done and turn back to God and ask for forgiveness!
  • Decide to ask God before you act and then obey
  • Decide to do what God says through the Bible and the Holy Spirit

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“What you get by reaching your destination is not nearly as important as what you will become by reaching your destination.”

Zig Ziglar

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

So are you ready to express it? Are you ready to make the decision? Are you ready to get it done?

Where are you at today? Are you looking for guidance? Are you wondering where to turn? Are you at the end of your rope and needing help? Are you ready for some help? Are you ready to turn to God and ask? seek? knock? Let’s pray together:

forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my

Do you realize the similarity of response between when God calls and Nike?

When calls you to something you should just do it. When God calls you to do something you should just do it. I know from my own experiences that isn’t always an easy task because the call may not be easy to do. I know from my own experiences that if God calls you to it and you don’t think you are qualified to do it, you should trust God and just do it as I have learned God doesn’t call the qualified but He qualifies the called. I know from my own experiences that if God asks you to do it then it is for your good and His glory! So like the Nike slogan, when God calls you to do something, you should just do it. I remember resisting and coming up with so many reason why I shouldn’t and couldn’t because I wasn’t qualified and it took an ultimatum from God (“you will be president or nothing, you choose!”) for me to accept it, whereas I could have started earlier and avoided the back and forth on the subject. So are you ready to be what God created you to be? Are you ready to do what God is calling you to do? Are you ready to fulfill the purpose God created you for? The choice is yours! He won’t force you to do it! Are you ready and willing to just do it if God calls you to it? What if it were to begin by helping someone who is poor? who is in need? who is needing a hand up? What if God prompts you today on your journey to help, will you just do it?

What goes around comes around

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY: Psalms 41:1

‘Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.’

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Ever heard of “the law of the harvest“?
  • Ever heard of the saying “what goes around comes around”?
  • Ever heard of the saying “you reap what you sow”?
  • Ever seen it happen when you get angry or frustrated and snap at people and then they snap back?
  • Ever seen it happen when you come to the help of someone in need who later is able to come and help you?
  • Consider what today’s verse says and how by doing something for someone who would be unable to pay you back will have God looking to help you out.
  • Imagine the blessings of God because we were generous to that person on the corner in need, that family with bills pilling up in need, helping someone who is unable to reciprocate but is in need.
  • God sees what we do, even when nobody else does and when we do what He asks, He blesses that and multiplies both the blessing to the others and the blessing over our lives.
  • Remember what Jesus said on this topic in Luke 14?
    • ‘ Jesus also said to the man who had invited Him, When you give a dinner or a supper, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, lest perhaps they also invite you in return, and so you are paid back. But when you give a banquet or a reception, invite the poor, the disabled, the lame, and the blind. Then you will be blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied), because they have no way of repaying you, and you will be recompensed at the resurrection of the just (upright).’ — Luke 14:12-14
  • God loves it when we give to those who are unable to pay us back!
  • Let’s be aware of those around us!
  • Let’s be aware of those in need!
  • Don’t be so sheltered that you can’t help!
  • Don’t be so sheltered that you would mock them!
  • Let’s see them through God’s eyes and respond how God asks of us in the moment!
  • Let’s consider their circumstances so that we can truly care for them!
  • Let’s care enough to do something!
  • When God calls you, just do it!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
Consider the poor. Who are they? What are their lives like?
  • Moms, Dads, Kids
  • Families
  • Homeless
  • Unemployed
  • Living in tents, under bridges, in the woods, in their cars
What is one thing you can do to care for one of them?
  • Stop, talk, and give
  • Find an organization that focuses on them who can help with their needs (like Union Gospel Mission)
  • Find an organization that focuses on meeting their needs locally and then around around the world.

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

God’s boomerang of blessing occurs when we do something for someone else who can do absolutely nothing for us in return.”

Are you ready to just do it? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and your life to be your Lord and Savior? Are you ready to be transformed from the inside out for the glory of God?

Where are you at today? Are you looking for guidance? Are you wondering where to turn? Are you at the end of your rope and needing help? Are you ready for some help? Are you ready to turn to God and ask? seek? knock? Let’s pray together

What makes you do it?

If someone asked you “why do you do it?” or “why did you do it?” or “what makes you keep doing it?”, how would you answer? Is there a motive behind why you do what you do? Is there a purpose behind why you do what you do? Is there a plan behind why you do what you do?

Was it something in the past? Was it someone from the past? Was it through some inspiration? Was it triggered by some event?

Ever heard people say “the devil made me do it”? Ever heard people say “it’s because I love…”? Ever heard people say “it is because of an encounter with Jesus”? Ever heard people say “it is something on my heart”? Ever heard people say “it is because I like to serve”?

When you consider motivators people have, they tend to get bucketed into groups like money and rewards, desire to be the best, helping others, power and fame, recognition, and passion.

So how about you? What do you do? How do you do it? When do you do it? What makes you do it?

Christ in you

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY: Galatians 2:20

‘I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. ‘

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • It’s not about a self-help program
  • It’s not a workout routine to help us get results
  • It’s a process from the inside out when we invite Jesus into our hearts.
  • When we invite Jesus into our hearts we are saved
  • When we live our lives with Jesus in our lives we live out the process of sanctification.
  • As we live with Christ in us, we need to allow Him to increase and us to decrease as we become more and more like Jesus.
  • Let’s take hold of the new perspective of life and death that Jesus provides us
  • Let’s put our old ways to death, nailing the sins to the cross
  • Let’s allow Jesus to transform us and our hearts day by day
  • We need to make a decision, choose every time a moment of choice appears that we can choose life or death and choose Christ over our own selfish desires.
  • Don’t lose hope or give up because you miss the mark, just reset and get back on track asking God to forgive you and start moving forward from where you are now
  • Let’s allow God’s character to fill us up with love, humility, and hope.
  • Let’s remember the promise and the power of the resurrection.

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

Describe what it means for Christ to live in you.

  • We invite Jesus into our hearts, and we start to live our lives putting God’s will first and leaning on the Holy Spirit to help lead and guide us and to resist the temptations of the devil in order to live lives that will be pleasing and glorifying to God.

What’s your responsibility for change, and what’s Christ’s responsibility to change you?

  • We need to realize when and take responsibility when selfish motives and actions come up and nail them to the cross, considering them dead – the old is gone and the new has come
  • Let’s replace those selfish thing with God honoring thoughts and behaviors
  • We need to pick life over death
  • We need to pick eternity with God rather than eternity apart from God.

QUOTE(S) FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

People who are crucified with Christ have three distinct marks:
1. they are facing only one direction,
2. they can never turn back, and
3. they no longer have plans of their own.

Aiden Wilson Tozer

When your number one goal in life is to die to yourself and put God first, you can rest assured you have a goal that will last a lifetime.”
