Yesterday I went to church and participated in an incredible service of worship, preaching, and seeing a portrayal of the Christmas story. As I consider this and prepare for what is yet to come, I turn to Jesus glorifying Him who came and demonstrated what love is, and in a dark world how to shine the light of love and hope! It was incredible to go to the service and get to see much of what we spoke of yesterday come up in respect to love, God’s love for us. So today as we prepare for the day, as I sit in a dark room with my monitors shining to give me light to read and see, I grab hold of a verse that was in the Bible app for today:
The people who walk in [spiritual] darkness Will see a great Light; Those who live in the dark land, The Light will shine on them.ISAIAH 9:2 (AMP)
As we get closer to Christmas, I reflect on the beginning of my walk with Jesus back in 2000 as I received an invitation to attend church in the mail and so my wife and daughter went with my in-laws. We’ve never been the same. God got a hold of my heart and we’ve walked through an incredible accelerated journey to help me get caught up (I like to call it my jetpack moment) as God not only transformed me when I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior, but I also got to experience water baptism, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, Cleansing Stream, be an actor in the Easter production (a disciple and then the angel at the tomb), became members, and the rest is history. I saw the great light who is Jesus, the light of the world! Getting to walk through so much with Him, I know that all things are possible with Him and through Him! I know that with God nothing is impossible! I remember considering writing a blog coming into 2005 that I was going to make private and share personal pics of the family with my extended family but one morning God spoke to me to make it public, and my response was if it is going to be public then I am going to need a new topic to which the response was, well what do you do every morning (which was read God’s Word as a devotional) and so He asked me to write what He speaks to me. And so the journey in 2005 with my reading at the time in the book of Revelation caused me to come up with the blog From 2005 to Eternity.
So have you had an encounter with Jesus yet? Have you had the experience of meeting the light of the world as Saul did? Are you ready to see a great Light? Are you ready to stop living in darkness? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life and allow the Light to shine on you?
‘Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord [and relentless in his search for believers], went to the high priest, and he asked for letters [of authority] from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any men or women there belonging to the Way [believers, followers of Jesus the Messiah], men and women alike, he could arrest them and bring them bound [with chains] to Jerusalem. As he traveled he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him [displaying the glory and majesty of Christ]; and he fell to the ground and heard a voice [from heaven] saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting and oppressing Me?” And Saul said, “Who are You, Lord?” And He answered, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” The men who were traveling with him [were terrified and] stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one. Saul got up from the ground, but though his eyes were open, he could see nothing; so they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. And he was unable to see for three days, and he neither ate nor drank. Now in Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias; and the Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he answered, “Here I am, Lord.” And the Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the street called Straight, and ask at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul; for he is praying [there], and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come in and place his hands on him, so that he may regain his sight.” But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many people about this man, especially how much suffering and evil he has brought on Your saints (God’s people) at Jerusalem; and here [in Damascus] he has authority from the high priests to put in chains all who call on Your name [confessing You as Savior].” But the Lord said to him, “Go, for this man is a [deliberately] chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel; for I will make clear to him how much he must suffer and endure for My name’s sake.” So Ananias left and entered the house, and he laid his hands on Saul and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came [to Damascus], has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit [in order to proclaim Christ to both Jews and Gentiles].” Immediately something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized; and he took some food and was strengthened. F or several days [afterward] Saul remained with the disciples who were at Damascus. ‘Acts 9:1-19
‘Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, “ I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” ‘John 8:12
Are you ready to be light in this dark world too?
‘ “You are the light of [Christ to] the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven. ‘Matthew 5:14-16
So as today begins let’s choose to pursue Jesus so that we don’t find ourselves in the dark and without the light! Let His light shine around you! Let His light shine in you! Let His light shine through you! Let His light shine out of you! Let’s be the dads who glorify God by pursuing Jesus!
