Do I really want this fruit?

Sermon by Pastor Dan

Galatians 5:23

‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law. ‘

Galatians 5:22-23

You can’t make a seed grow! All you can do is make the environment to help the seed grow! God has put the ability to grow into the seed!

Fruit is singular – not a multiple choice. It is the fruit of the Spirit.

‘The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things, there is no law. ‘

Galatians 5:19-23

You don’t stumble into good fruit – it has to be cultivated.

We stumble into the acts of the flesh. When the flesh is in charge it gets not good stuff.

There is a tension in us that is going on and have to be aware of!

There is a society that is built on the works of the flesh!

There are people unaware of the ways and fruit of the Spirit!

They aren’t stumbling into the ways of the flesh but they are justifying it and defending it!

We are called to something different and the tension is going on in our hearts!

The fruitful life is the best life! and proclaim it! A life filled with love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control is best!

The fruitful life is set to set us free and live in freedom from the works of the law as well as the ways of sin!

We cultivate our hearts so that the seeds of the fruit of the Spirit is ready for God to help it grow!

God’s love is limitless!

Joy of the Lord is limitless!

Peace of the Lord is limitless!

Everything from the Holy Spirit is limitless!

Spirit is like an artesian well that overflows with water limitless!

Patience that is limitless and abundant!

‘So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. ‘ Galatians 5:16

So as we chase after the Spirit the fruit of the Spirit are produced in our life!

‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. ‘ Galatians 5:22-23 https://my.bible.com/bible/111/GAL.5.22-23

Patience, Kindness, and goodness

Patience is a virtue – when you are out of it, it is a very unappealing things

Want circumstances that don’t require patience!

In King James – longsuffering

In NIV – forbearance

Not many people say/use longsuffering – short tempered though – long temper – don’t know when either will go off

if it is in limited supply it will run out, the question is when

God isn’t calling us to short supply or large supply but rather limitless supply!

Call is to walk in step with the Holy Spirit

So we need to come back to God when we are running out – not to get better at it but to invite God in as we need more of God and His Spirit in our lives!

What do I need to grow spiritually in life! You need to rid your life of hurry!

If you can’t rid your life of hurry then what else is there?

God is calling us to wait upon Him rather than trying to get your own schedule and timeline.

Let’s place ourselves so we can be more in step with God and His Spirit!

Showing kindness over fairness!

Goodness! Over used!

Good = God be with you — absent of flaw and defect

when in step with the Spirit it naturally flows – it grows in us

There are things we can do to guide us in this way

You need to close the door so that you aren’t letting things into your life so you can product good things in your life

Walk more in step with the Holy Spirit!

There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus!
