Worship…

Worship as a lifestyle

As we head into the weekend and the beauty of fresh snow is across the field, the idea of purity, untouched, and worship came to my mind. Ever heard the phrase “white as snow“? Ever reflected on where you heard it or where it came from? Ever considered this verse in the Bible:

‘“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord , “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.’

Isaiah 1:18-20

Ever considered how it would be or could be possible to have such a transformation? Ever considered what it would take for this to happen? Ever considered the sacrifice paid by Jesus in order to cleanse us of all unrighteousness – removing the crimson stain of sin and replacing it with the purity and cleansing of His ultimate sacrifice on the cross?

Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow.
-- Isaiah 1:18
Isaiah 1:18
Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
-- Psalms 51:7

Ever compared snow first thing in the morning before people or animals get to trample through it? The purity? The beauty? The untouched snow?

Ever reflected with awe and wonder the magnificence of God’s hand on this world? Ever focused on the awe and wonder of God’s love and sacrifice? Ever considered how much God loves you to the point of wanting and willing to give you another chance? Don’t you think He is worthy of our worship and praise? Don’t you think we should live out our lives as living sacrifices to God in order that by the words we speak and the actions we take He will receive the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name?

What or Who do you worship? Is it God or do you have an idol that you worship? Do you live in awe and wonder of what God has been and is able to do in and around and through your life? Will you consider as you start this day how you can worship God? Will you worship God in Spirit? Will you worship God in Truth? Will you choose to worship God rather than some idol? The decision is yours and that decision will have an impact on both your life and those around you. So who will you choose to worship today?

Spirit and Truth

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY: John 4:23-24

‘But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”’

POINTS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL:
  • Do you realize that God is omnipresent and so He is everywhere and so we that means we can talk to Him and walk with Him everywhere we go?
  • Do you realize that God wants us to have a relationship with Him rather than going thru the motions of rituals and routines and so we should be able to share every moment of our lives in conversation and interaction with Him?
  • Do you realize that God wants us to be friends with Him and as such to be able to share every part of our lives with Him rather than trying to compartmentalize the parts we let Him in vs the areas we don’t?
    • ‘No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. ‘
      John 15:15
  • Do you realize that you can’t put God in a box? He is bigger than that!
  • Do you realize what it takes to have a relationship? Let’s choose a relationship with God over rituals and routines, only being able to worship Him in certain places or certain times or in certain ways!
  • Let’s choose to get on track with God and use the rails of the Spirit and Truth to direct us forward!
  • Let’s live in relationship with God by worshipping Him in Spirit!
  • Let’s live in relationship with God by worshipping Him in Truth!
  • Let’s go beyond starting a relationship with Jesus and being saved!
  • Let’s continue our relationship with Jesus and be sanctified!
  • Let’s choose to go beyond our worldly and fleshly ways and move towards our spiritual ways for God is Spirit!
  • For some there is an emptiness in their hearts and they keep trying to fill it with different things and find it doesn’t work or fix the hole. Jesus is the piece we need to fill the hole in our hearts!
  • Without God in our hearts there is an emptiness, there is a gap, there is a hole where our eternity can’t be found. So we need to invite Jesus into our hearts to help that pull towards eternity with God.
    • ‘He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.’
      Ecclesiastes 3:11
  • It is more than just a spiritual experience, it is a relationship with God!
  • It goes beyond a feeling or some may have heard it said as it is more than a feeling!
  • So let’s not be drawn away from God!
  • Let’s walk out our lives daily with God!
  • It’s not about an experience or a philosophy, it is about a relationship with Jesus!
  • Don’t allow the devil to trick you into thinking you are all that or have it all together and allow pride to slip into the situation!
  • Let’s come to God in humility!
  • Let’s walk out our day sensitive to the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit!
  • Hear that still quiet voice? How will you respond?
  • Feel that prompting to act? How will you respond?
  • Will you be obedient to the still quiet voice and do what God is asking of you?
  • Will you be obedient to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and be God’s hands extended to the people around you?
  • Don’t be robbed by pride! Don’t be robbed by selfishness!
  • Let’s live humbly and with a servants heart to both God and those He has brought into our lives to serve!
  • Let’s choose to walk with our Friend God and worship Him as living sacrifices in Spirit and in Truth!

DISCUSSION TOPICS FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
Which are you more attracted to, spiritual experiences or biblical truth?
  • Biblical truth – God’s Word is alive and speaks truth to me daily. He knows what I need each day and is able to speak right into my very situation, exactly what I need to hear.
  • God experiences – having Him be able to lead and guide me through the prompting of the Holy Spirit makes it so that when I send a quick note to someone that they came to mind, I get to see how God purposed for it and can work it to speak life and hope and love into the lives of others.
What would a strong blend of both look like in your life?
  • A powerful day where living with and for God would cause my light to shine for others to see and glorify my heavenly Father. A powerful day where I am about my Father’s work.

QUOTES FROM TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

Many times Christians state their love for the Lord and their willingness to die for Him. I will make no pretense of knowing the Lord’s will in your life, but I do feel that in most cases the Lord is far more interested in our living for Him than He is in our dying for Him.

Today’s reading from Tanakh:

  • Exodus 32
    • It is not good for people to be alone. It is not good for people to be without a spiritual leader.
    • Left to their own ways they are tempted to worship or create idols rather than convene with God.
    • We need to not allow peer pressure to cause us to buy in or get sucked into the tricks and lies.
    • We need to be filled regularly and walk with God continuously or else we can be led astray and start doing the wrong things for the wrong motives.
    • Will you turn back to God before it is too late in order to be forgiven?
    • Will you turn back to God before it is too late and allow Him to clean that crimson stain of sin and make it white as snow?
  • Exodus 33
    • Are you willing to go into God’s promises and leave God behind?
    • Will you choose to stay with God rather than walk into an experience or situation alone?
    • Will you only go if God will go with you?
    • Will you choose to meet with God?
    • Will you choose to walk out our life in God’s favor?
    • Will you go forward only if and when God will lead you?
    • Will you stay as long as God doesn’t choose to move?
    • Will your favor with God be evident in the way you live and your life goes?

Where are you at today? Are you looking for guidance? Are you wondering where to turn? Are you at the end of your rope and needing help? Are you ready for some help? Are you ready to turn to God and ask? seek? knock? Let’s pray together.

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven. At this moment I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Father, I take you at your word. I thank you that I can face death now that you are my Savior. Thank you for the assurance that you will walk with me through the deep valley. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
