Where to find certainty in uncertain times…

Where to find certainty in uncertain times…

After just over a day with limited internet and the expectation after an early morning chat with the carrier, it is supposed to still be a day filled with uncertainty around internet connectivity. It appears for now that I have enough to be writing this post and will hopefully be able to complete it too. Ever considered all that is and has and will take place before 2020 is in the rearview mirror? Ever felt uncertain in the midst of everything that is going on? Ever tried to navigate these uncharted territories before? Ever stopped to take account of the situation as it stands right now? Ever stopped to take inventory of the lessons learned through this time? Ever considered if there has been anything firm or certain in the midst of the fluidity and uncertainty of things? Be it health with things like the pandemic. Be it safety in the midst of things like natural disasters. Be it safety in the midst of things like riots. Be it hope in the midst of political events. Have you been able to take hold of the good too? I know the news tends to highlight the bad news but what about the breakthroughs and positive things that have taken place. What about the peace agreements that have occurred? What about the ingenuity in the medical field that is helping reduce the number of deaths in the midst of a pandemic? What about the creativity of entrepreneurs and corporations as they learn how to navigate a world where people are needing or being kept at a distance? What about the number of people who have started turning back to God? Have you been able to find certainty in the midst of uncertain times?

Through it all having Jesus as my rock, my foundation, and my cornerstone have helped me each day as I get started to be able to make it through the trying, challenging, and uncertain times. My faith for what I hope for and my certainty for what I have not yet seen helps me press in and press on. My faith helps me to share the hope that is within me with my kids and family, no matter what else is going on. My hope is built on God! No matter what happens here and now in this temporary time on earth, my hope and my certainty comes from knowing I will get to spend eternity in heaven with God thanks to Jesus. It is by faith that I can get up every morning in the midst of the uncertainty of today. It is by faith that I can move forward in planning for activities and adventures that are yet to come. Faith is what brings peace to a crazy situation. Faith in Jesus allows for a storm to be called or for me to be calmed in the midst of a storm. Even when I don’t see it yet, my hope and faith allow me to continue to press in and press forward. I know I wrote out my post for yesterday in a book and will need to make time, maybe on the weekend to post it online, but that post spoke of faith. Hebrews 11 is a chapter that hammers home the power and the purpose and the need for faith. Grabbing the first 3 verses from yesterday’s reading for reflection and taking the AMPC translation to add context to the verses, we read:

‘ NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. For by [faith–trust and holy fervor born of faith] the men of old had divine testimony borne to them and obtained a good report. By faith we understand that the worlds [during the successive ages] were framed (fashioned, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose) by the word of God, so that what we see was not made out of things which are visible.’

Hebrews 11:1-3

As I was looking for an image for today’s post I found the following quote:

“Certainty in Uncertain Times”… To be certain means to be sure, definite, fixed, proven to be true, inevitable, settled, incapable of failing. Certainty and faith go hand-in-hand. The more certain you are, the more faith you have… The more faith you have, the more certain you become. However, on the opposite end of the spectrum lies uncertainty. Uncertainty breeds fear, and fear feeds uncertainty. Uncertainty and fear also go hand-in-hand.

Certainty In Uncertain Times

Let’s pause before we jump into today’s reading and consider the truth in the midst of the lies and fear being driven by uncertainty. Let’s pause and take hold of the truth of who God is and all that He has set in place to give us certainty in the midst of uncertainty.

Find confidence in the midst of uncertainty by remembering that we are God’s!

With September in the rearview mirror how will you live out your today?
With September in the rearview mirror how will you live out your today? The lies and deception in the rearview mirror that you can forgive and leave it back there without turning back and trying to pick up that pain and those offenses. Let’s learn from that and focus on what is ahead of us and the truth that in the midst of isolation and focus you are able to still make a difference in this world. Let’s take the truth of God’s Word and press in and press on shining our light so that in and through our lives, others will be touched for the glory of the kingdom of God through Jesus Chris our Lord and Savior.

The 49 week challenge
Day 289

Want to join me in the challenge? Click Day 289 link to join me and sign up. It is never too late.

The 49 week challenge has 6 days in which to notice a promise to trust, a command to obey, a truth to embrace, a warning to heed, or an encouragement to rest in and 1 day to reflect on what you’re learning and to share it with others, to think back over the week’s readings, to see connections between the various passages of the week. Each day we have time to talk to God and contemplate what is being said through His Word, and even more so on the 7th day.

How interested are you in what will happen today? How interested are you in what will be required of you today? How interested are you in what decisions you will need to make today? How interested are you in hearing from God today? How interested are you in accomplishing what God is calling you to do today? What if it were life and death decision? What if it were everlasting life and everlasting death decision? What if the decision that you make today will determine how you will spend the rest of eternity? Would it make a difference?

If you are interested in getting together or sharing the information together, please let me know through the comment section below, through email, or even through text messages.

Today’s reading from GOD’S WORD – THE BIBLE comes to us from:

My Notes:

  • There is power in generational faith that if full and overflows into the next generation
  • There is power when God’s love overflows from generation to generation allowing each generation to draw closer to God and trust Him more
  • We need to live by faith and not by sight.
  • Will you have enough faith to seek a blessing from God?
  • Will you have enough faith to turn to God when things are looking dim?
  • Will you have enough faith to seek to be drawn to God.
  • God’s will is greater than our will, His ways are higher than our ways
  • So in the midst of uncertainty, let’s find certainty through faith in God
  • Let’s be lead by Jesus for the rest of our lives here so that we can spend eternity with Him in heaven in the future
  • God has prepared in advance the good works we are to do – and so we can have faith even before we head out for today that there will be good works we will need to accomplish today.
  • Trust God and see His hand work in and through your life.
  • The battle belongs to the Lord and so don’t think you need to get it all done in your own strength, instead you need to do it in obedience to God.
  • Let’s be obedient like Israel was who walked around the wall and because of their obedience God gave them the city.

As day 289 begins, I would hate to miss giving the opportunity to anyone who hasn’t received Jesus into their lives as their Lord and Savior an opportunity to make the decision today and the blessing to get to live out the rest of the year in that power and that truth and that hope.

If you would like to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, why not join me in this prayer?

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven. At this moment I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Father, I take you at your word. I thank you that I can face death now that you are my Savior. Thank you for the assurance that you will walk with me through the deep valley. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
