ISAAC NEWTON ON TRUE RELIGION…(The Bible’s Impact on Scientific Discovery [July 27])

Science and religion are not in opposition. Science and religion are connected and are revelations. We see God through His creations. We see God in nature. We see God in physics. We see God in math. We see God in biology. God is revealed throughout this world in all of His creations.

Today’s reading comes to us from 1 John 5

Overcoming the World

1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Testimony Concerning the Son of God
6This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7For there are three that testify: 8the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. 9If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. 10Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

That You May Know

13I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
16If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. 17All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
18We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.
19We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
20And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 21Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

Today’s Today’s devotional from The Global Impact Bible on the theme of the Bible’s impact on scientific discovery brings us the topic of Isaac Newton on true religion. We know how Isaac Newton is one of the world’s greatest scientists and today’s devotional reminds us how he is known as the father of modern physics including the deeper understanding of gravity and even the development of one of my favorite math subjects calculus. Today’s devotional goes beyond the science to let us know that he was also an incredible writer about the Bible and religion. We learn how he used part of today’s reading in summarizing the Bible where he wrote:

We are, therefore, to acknowledge one God, infinite, eternal, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, the creator of all things, most wise, most just, most good, most holy. We must love him, fear him, honour him, trust in him, pray to him, give him thanks, praise him, hallow his name, obey his commandments, and set times apart for his service, as we are directed in the third and fourth Commandments, for this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments, and his commandments are not grievous. 1 John, v. 3. And these things we must do not to any mediators between him and us, but to him and alone, that he may give his angels charge over us, who, being our fellow-servants, are pleased with the worship we give to their God. And this is the first and the principal part of religion. This always was, and always will be the religion of God’s people, from the beginning to the end of the world.

So what do you believe? What are you clinging to? What is truth to you? Will you receive the hope, the love, and the truth of Jesus Christ into your life? This last month has been powerful in how it has spoken about the overwhelming victory that is our through Christ from Romans 8:27

Let’s pray…

Salvation Prayer Example

For those who prayed this for the first time or as a recommitment to God, I celebrate with the angels in heaven that you made the greatest decision of your life. Will you leave a comment so that I know and pray for you? Will you leave a comment or question so we can have a conversation? Look for a local church that is a Bible believing, Bible preaching church that will be able to come alongside you and help you in this journey called life.

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for an incredible time at camp and getting to pour love, and truth, and love into the lives of our campers. I pray Lord that the seeds, even is only the size of a mustard seed will germinate and will be watered and start to grow so that in and through You Lord they will find strength and peace, wisdom to persevere. I pray Lord, Your protection over each and every one of the of them. I pray Lord that You will send Your angels and Your people into every situation so that they will continue to hear of Your love and that they won’t lose hope nor allow despair to take hold. Help them Lord to keep breaking the chains of the enemy and pulling out the roots of the weeds that try to come into their lives. Grant us as staff peace as well and help us to remember them and pray for them. You are awesome Lor and You did an incredible work in both the lives of the campers and the staff this year. I lift them all up to You today and ask that You will be with each of them every step of every day so that they may take hold of our memory verse “Overwhelming victory is ours through Christ” – Romans 8:37. I ask all this Lord so that in and through it all You will receive the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
