How many miracles would it take for you to believe? What if you had an encounter with an angel?
Luke 1:38 38″I am the LORD’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
Luke 1:30-35 30But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The LORD God will give him the throne of his father David, 33and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” 34″How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
Matthew 1:20 20But after he had considered this, an angel of the LORD appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
Luke 1:56 56Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.
Luke 1:28 28The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The LORD is with you.”
Matthew 2:13 13When they had gone, an angel of the LORD appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”
What if you were visited by a group of really smart people? What if there was a star leading people to you? This happens to be today’s reading…
The Visit of the Wise Men
1Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” 3When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; 4and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:
6 “‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for from you shall come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.'”
7Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. 8And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” 9After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. 10When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. 11And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. 12And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.

What if there was a sky filled with angels singing?
Luke 2:8-12 8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the LORD appeared to them, and the glory of the LORD shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the LORD. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
At which point might you believe that the impossible is possible?
Luke 18:27 27Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
Matthew 19:26 26Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Mark 10:27 27Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”
Matthew 17:20 20He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Philippians 4:13 13I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Mark 9:23 23″‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
Today’s devotional from The Global Impact Bible on the theme of the Bible’s impact on scientific discovery brings us the topic of Christmas and the Calendar. We read about how Christmas celebrates the arrival of Jesus (Matthew 1:19, Luke 2:7). We read about how the exact birthday of Jesus cannot be established with certainty, but we see multiple reasons for why that date was selected. We read about how the illuminated codex from the fourth century called the Chronography of 254 noted December 25th. We also read about how March 25th was the traditional date of the visitation of the angel and his announcement of the pregnancy (Luke 1:26-38). We read how it also may be related to the Roman celebration on December 25th where they believed that their sun deity was reborn as the days begin to get noticeably longer. They could have replaced that pagan day with a celebration of the true God, and celebrate the birth of Jesus. We learn about the fourth century Christian saint Nicholas of Myra (in present day Turkey). We learn about how some Christians even celebrate the visitation of the three wise men on January 6th.
So do you believe? Will you believe? What did it take for you to believe? What would it take for you to believe? What will it take for you to believe?
For those who prayed this for the first time or as a recommitment to God, I celebrate with the angels in heaven that you made the greatest decision of your life. Will you leave a comment so that I know and pray for you? Will you leave a comment or question so we can have a conversation? Look for a local church that is a Bible believing, Bible preaching church that will be able to come alongside you and help you in this journey called life.
I thank You Lord for the good report from camp. I thank You Lord for this new day as I prepare to bring part of my family to the airport for a team trip and ask Lord you be with them and their team with traveling mercies and protection from the heat and from injuries. I pray Your protection over my family Lord as we come and go and ask that You will help us to complete the work You have for us to do. Help us Lord to live out our lives so that You will be glorified in all that we do. I give this day into Your hands as we prepare the last few things for the weekend ahead so that in and through it all You will receive the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
