Ever found something that makes the Bible’s teaching clearer to you? Ever found how math and science don’t contradict the Bible but reinforce what the Bible has to say?
For me the one example that helped me believe in miracles was the idea of greater dimensions. Consider we have 3-D right – so we have length, width, height. Now God must exist in a dimension higher than 3. Some say that the fourth dimension is time. Well, we know that God knows the beginning and the end and so He must be outside of that dimension too. So He is at least in the 5th dimension but very possibly higher.
Now consider being god over a piece of paper (2-D) and you draw a stick man but the hand isn’t exactly how you would have liked since they don’t match. Being in the 3rd dimension, we can take our eraser and come in (90 degrees to the paper) and erase the hand that needs to be redrawn. The stick man is wondering what is going on as his hand has disappeared. You then draw it back to your expectations and the stick man is amazed as his hand has been miraculously healed and restored. Using this and knowing God is at least in the 5th dimension, He is able to come in at 90 degrees and we won’t see Him, we will just experience the miracle.
Those who can’t believe in the Word of God because of math, science, or other reasons may want to reconsider. God created everything and so math, science, and other higher learning were created to help us learn more and better understand God. He is revealing Himself to us through it all. It’s a gift from God! We may never understand it all till we get to meet Him face to face, but we need to believe, trust, and follow Him. His ways are not our ways, His ways are higher and better. There is a time. There is a purpose. There is a plan. So will you take hold of God’s timing? Will you take hold of God’s purpose in and through your life? Will you take hold of God’s plan and live it to its full? So let’s make the most of every situation. Let’s be living out the fruit of the Spirit in everything we do today through love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Let’s allow God to pour out of us and into the lives of all those God brings into our lives today.
Today’s reading comes to us from Ecclesiastes 3…
A Time for Everything
1For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
2 a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
The God-Given Task
9What gain has the worker from his toil? 10I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. 11He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. 12I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; 13also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.
14I perceived that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it. God has done it, so that people fear before him. 15That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.
From Dust to Dust
16Moreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice, even there was wickedness, and in the place of righteousness, even there was wickedness. 17I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work. 18I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts. 19For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity. 20All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return. 21Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of the beast goes down into the earth? 22So I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his work, for that is his lot. Who can bring him to see what will be after him?
–from Ecclesiastes 3
Today’s devotional from The Global Impact Bible on the theme of the Bible’s impact on scientific discovery brings us the topic of Galileo, Science, and the Bible. We learn about Galileo being know for his study of sunspots and for discovering Jupiter’s moons. We also learn that his study of the solar system aligned him to Copernicus’ model of the Earth rotating around the Sun rather than everything rotating around the Earth which created similar conflicts to what Copernicus had. This view cause many religious leaders, scientists, and astrologers to oppose Galileo’s ideas. Galileo viewed it more that he wasn’t contradicting the Bible but rather how science is able to illuminate an understanding of the Bible. We learn how Galileo quotes from today’s reading from Ecclesiastes 3:11…
‘He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. ‘ — Ecclesiastes 3:11
when he wrote:
Indeed, we also have it from the mouth of the Holy Spirit that “God has delivered the world to their consideration, so that man cannot find out the work which God has made from the beginning to the end (Ecclesiastes, chapter 3); so one must not, in my opinion , contradict this statement and block the way of freedom of philosophizing about things of the world and of nature, as if they had all already been discovered and discussed with certainty. — Above quote from The Global Impact Bible page 901 – Ecclesiastes 3 – (found something similar in letter to Duchess Christina)
