Does it matter who “everyone” is? You deserve another chance right? So what about your friends, don’t they deserve another chance too? What about your enemies, don’t they deserve another chance too? Is there anyone who shouldn’t get another chance?
Are you facing giants today? What will you do with your second chance? None of us are perfect! None of us are free from mistakes! There is hope, so receive it! Don’t give up! Press on! Want another chance? Don’t ask to make life easier, ask God to make you stronger! Do you need direction in your life so you know which way to go? You are not alone and were never made to try and go thru this life alone! Be transformed! Be a new creation! Be born again! There is not ifs, there are whens, so be prepared! Are you ready? Are you getting prepared? Will you give others a second chance before it is too late? Will you ask for another chance before it is too late? Is your heart in the right place? Is there anything polluting it that needs to be given up to God? Do you know what side you are on? What will it take for you to choose? Will you decide to choose before it is too late? Who are you? You are a somebody! You do matter! You are valued! So will you ask for another chance when you need one? Will you give another chance when they need one? Will you show humility and ask? Will you show grace and give? Second chances…
Like we read in Galatians…
1Brothers, if someone is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him with a spirit of gentleness. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. 2Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the Law of Christ.
–from Galatians 6
Imagine being Jonah…Imagine knowing all the he knew about the people of Nineveh…Imagine then after all that God wanting to send you to warn them of the impending doom if they stay in their ways…Imagine how God would use Jonah and how God can you use to point people back to God so that they can have another chance…Would you do it? Would you forgive? Would you help others to forgive? Would you help others to be forgiven?
Let’s check out today’s reading from Jonah 4…
Jonah’s Anger at the Lord’s Mercy
1This change of plans greatly upset Jonah, and he became very angry. 2So he complained to the Lord about it: “Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people. 3Just kill me now, Lord! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen.”
4The Lord replied, “Is it right for you to be angry about this?”
5Then Jonah went out to the east side of the city and made a shelter to sit under as he waited to see what would happen to the city. 6And the Lord God arranged for a leafy plant to grow there, and soon it spread its broad leaves over Jonah’s head, shading him from the sun. This eased his discomfort, and Jonah was very grateful for the plant.
7But God also arranged for a worm! The next morning at dawn the worm ate through the stem of the plant so that it withered away. 8And as the sun grew hot, God arranged for a scorching east wind to blow on Jonah. The sun beat down on his head until he grew faint and wished to die. “Death is certainly better than living like this!” he exclaimed.
9Then God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry because the plant died?”
“Yes,” Jonah retorted, “even angry enough to die!”
10Then the Lord said, “You feel sorry about the plant, though you did nothing to put it there. It came quickly and died quickly. 11But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, not to mention all the animals. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?”
–from Jonah 4
How will you consider the people around you? How will you shine light into their dark world? How will you show God’s grace and mercy to them today? Don’t we all deserve another chance? God’s Word tells us…
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
–from Romans 3:23
So shouldn’t the sacrifice of Jesus be something for everyone? Shouldn’t the sacrifice at the cross be more than enough for everyone to get another chance if they want it? But what if they don’t realize that it is available to them? Will you tell them about it? Will you offer them another chance through the promises and power of Jesus Christ our Lord? If not you then who? If not now then when? If not Jesus then what else can you offer them? If not right here and right now then where else could it be? God has put you in such a place for such a time as this! Don’t run from your Nineveh! Run to God’s plan and God’s purpose in and thru your life!
Is there anyone you need to forgive today? God has a better plan for your life! Will you appreciate what God has for you? Will you be thankful and grateful? Will you be the difference and make the difference in the lives of people God has put around you? God’s love is so great that if you need another chance and you will turn back to Him, He will give you another chance! Choose forgiveness!
You would want another chance! Will you give someone else another chance?
