Needing to pick up the pace? Needing to find that opening or opportunity to accelerate?
Do you know what to do when you are feeling stuck? Do you know what to do when you spot that opening or opportunity? How will you respond? How will you react? What will you do? What should you do?
Devotional, Psalm 9:1-6, Matthew 10:32-42, Matthew 11:1-15, Genesis 27, Genesis 28
Today’s devotional (Bible in One Year – Day 13) gives us these 3 pointers…
1. Expect opposition
Psalm 9:1–6; Matthew 10:32–36
2. Embrace sacrifice
Matthew 10:32 – 11:15
3. Enjoy the challenge
Matthew 11:1–15; Genesis 27:1–28:22
So let’s consider what happens when we try to accelerate.
If we are running or driving doesn’t there seem to be something that is trying to hold us back? some type of opposition? Similarly in life as we try to accelerate we will find there will be opposition. The opposition may be criticism. The opposition may be physical. Throughout the bible, we read of the opposition that people faced. We know David did and Jesus did, but Jesus told us that in this world we will have troubles, but that we can take heart because he overcame the world and as such we have His power to be overcomers. Jesus warned us that we will face trials of many kinds and that we are to consider it pure joy when we do as it will work in and thru us so that in the end we will be complete and lacking nothing! So rather than going out into the world and try to shake things up, why not walk out there with grace and love, speaking truth, so that we can accomplish God’s will of being peacemakers! Rather than retaliating for what people do to you, turn the other cheek! Break the cycle of violence! Break the cycle of retaliation!
Today’s devotional (Bible in One Year – Day 13) closed out this topic with the following reminder…
Millions of followers of Jesus around the world are facing physical persecution today simply because of what they believe. Some face opposition, repression and discrimination from governments at a national or local level.
You may not face opposition like this in your life, but you should expect some opposition – whether from a hostile media, friends and family who do not understand your faith, or work colleagues who disagree with what you stand for.
To be able to accelerate things will require sacrifice! We are to love Jesus most! We are to take up our cross daily and follow after Him! We need to pursue after what God’s planned and purposed for our lives! We are to be more than just generous givers, we are to be living sacrifices! Let’s live to serve for the glory of God!
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. –from Romans 12
Serve by giving a cool drink of water who is thirsty! Serve by showing an act of kindness! Serve by receiving from someone who wants to give! When we do it in the name of Jesus, not matter how big or how small, it will never return void!
Yes, in this world we will have troubles, but we aren’t to respond like the world by retaliating, but rather we are to respond in love showing grace and mercy to the world around us just like Jesus showed it to us! So don’t lose hope! Trust in God! Let Jesus be your focus and your purpose as you walk out today!
Some like challenges and others do not. To be able to accelerate, we need to take on the challenge and enjoy it! It’s not about accelerating in the world, but accelerating in the kingdom of God that is key! It’s about accelerating the world learning and hearing about the kingdom of God and who Jesus is! Let’s take hold of the sacrifice it will take and enjoy that challenge! Let’s take hold of the opposition we will face and enjoy the challenge! Let’s be passionate about our love for Jesus and share it with the world around us! Let’s be dynamic about how we tell the world about our love for Jesus and Jesus’ love for them! Let’s not just wait for an opportunity, let’s be proactive and look for opportunities to share the goodness of God with the world around us! Knowing that in this world we will have troubles, we know others are probably going thru something right now…how would Jesus have you share the good news with them? Don’t just sit back since we need to be forceful since if we aren’t moving forward we are moving backwards because everyone around us is moving! Let’s be forceful to know God’s blessings and share the good news with the world around us! God’s plans are for good! Jesus came not to condemn the world but that through Him it could be saved! God’s desire is that nobody should perish but that everyone will come to repentance and find eternal life with God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Let’s be incredible followers of Jesus so that in the end, we will hear from God “well done my good and faithful servants” as we enter into eternity with Him!
