The get setup to protect you! They get setup to keep you safe! They are necessary for healthy relationships and life! God provided such guidance and boundaries to His people after leaving Egypt and prior to entering Canaan in hopes of keeping them from hurting themselves or setting themselves up for trouble. God is Love! God so loves the Word that He gave His only Son that whosoever would believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life! God cared at the beginning and warned Adam and Eve, God cared in the middle when He warned the Jewish people, and still cares today because His desire is that nobody would perish and that everyone would come into repentance and relationship with Him. Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world, He came to save it! He have His all! This weekend we celebrate Psalm Sunday – Jesus’ triumphant entry. Friday we celebrate Good Friday and as I was telling my kids yesterday at the time, people following Jesus probably didn’t think it was that good and those who wanted Him dead probably did. But Friday isn’t the end of the story, next Sunday is Easter, the day He rose from the grave, defeating death once and for all, providing a way for us to be reconciled to God and completing His purpose for coming to the earth! He took all the guilt and shame and pain for everything humanity had done wrong! He nailed it to the cross even though He didn’t deserve it! And then overcame it by defeating death and now sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for those who have decided to trust in Him! Does that mean life will be easy? No! It just means that we can have hope, no matter the situation and no matter the circumstance! We can consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kinds! We can face troubles that come our way overcomers, because He overcame this world! We don’t have to fear, because we know where we will spend eternity! We don’t have to worry about tomorrow because we can come to Him with prayer and petition and know that He hears us!
So where are you at today? Have you chosen to ask Jesus into your heart? Have you received Him as your Lord and Savior? Are you trying to live within the healthy boundaries He has setup? Have you started to live to the higher calling so as to be better than average?
The choice is yours and it sits in your hands! The choice is yours and it will make a difference in eternity! It’s beyond just now! It’s beyond words! It’s a matter of the heart!
Will you ask Jesus into your heart? before it is too late? It’s a great time of year to reflect on it and make a choice! Just ask Him. If I can help, leave me a comment. We need to be plugged into a Bible believing, a Bible preaching church! Where the Word of God is the standard!
There isn’t an official prayer because it is something personal, but if you are like me it is good to have an example or template to follow, so here are a few to help in case you need them.
Today’s reading speaks to God’s telling Moses how to instruct the people on how and why to live according to His commandments rather than the way of man, be it from the past in Egypt or the future in Canaan – God’s Way is the best way!
1Adonai said to Moses: 2“Speak to Bnei-Yisrael and say to them: I am Adonai your God. 3You are not to act as they do in the land of Egypt, where you used to live. Nor are you to act as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you, nor are you to walk in their customs. 4You are to obey My ordinances and keep My statutes and walk in them—I am Adonai your God. 5So you are to keep My statutes and My ordinances. The one who does them will live by them. I am Adonai.
Incest Forbidden6“None of you is to come near anyone who is his close relatives to uncover their nakedness. I am Adonai. 7“You are not to uncover the nakedness of your father or your mother. She is your mother. You should not uncover her nakedness. 8You are not to uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife, for it is your father’s nakedness. 9You are not to uncover the nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home or elsewhere. 10You are not to uncover the nakedness of your son’s daughter, or of your daughter’s daughter, for theirs is your own nakedness. 11You are not to uncover the nakedness of the daughter of your father’s wife, conceived by your father, since she is your sister. 12You are not to uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister, for she is your father’s direct relative. 13You are not to uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s direct relative. 14You are not to uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother by approaching his wife, for she is your aunt. 15You are not to uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law, for she is your son’s wife. You are not to uncover her nakedness. 16You are not to uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife, because that is your brother’s nakedness. 17You are not to uncover the nakedness of both a woman and her daughter. You are not to take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness, for they are direct relatives. That is wickedness. 18You are not to marry your wife’s sister, to be a rival, uncovering her nakedness, while her sister is still alive.
Other Forbidden Relations19“You are not to approach a woman to uncover her nakedness while she is in the impurity of her niddah . 20You are not to lie sexually with your neighbor’s wife and defile yourself with her. 21“You are not to give any of your children in sacrifice to Molech, and defile the Name of your God. I am Adonai. 22“You are not to lie with a man, as with a woman—that is an abomination. 23You are not to lie with any animal to defile yourself with it, nor is any woman to give herself to an animal, to lie down with it—that is a perversion. 24“Do not defile yourselves in any of these things, for in all of these ways the nations which I am casting out before you were defiled. 25The land has become defiled, so I will punish its iniquity, and the land will vomit out its inhabitants. 26You, however, are to keep My statutes and My ordinances, and do none of these abominations, neither the native-born, nor the outsider dwelling among you. 27“For all these abominations were done by the men of the land who were before you, and the land became defiled. 28If you defile it, the land will vomit you out as it vomited out the nation that was before you. 29For whoever does any of these detestable things, the souls that do them are to be cut off from the midst of their people. 30Therefore you are to keep My charge, so that you do not practice any of these detestable customs that were practiced before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them. I am Adonai your God.”–from Exodus 18
Holiness Code1Adonai spoke to Moses saying: 2“Speak to all the congregation of Bnei-Yisrael and tell them: You shall be kedoshim, for I, Adonai your God, am holy. 3“Each one of you is to respect his mother and his father, and keep My Shabbatot. I am Adonai your God. 4“Do not turn to idols, or make molten gods for yourselves. I am Adonai your God. 5“When you bring a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to Adonai, you are to offer it so that you may be accepted. 6It is to be eaten the same day you offer it, and the next day. But if anything remains until the third day, it is to be burned with fire. 7If it is eaten at all on the third day, it is disgusting. It will not be accepted. 8Rather, anyone who eats it will bear his iniquity, since he has profaned what is holy to Adonai, and that soul will be cut off from his people. 9“When you reap the harvest of your land, you are not to reap to the very corners of your field, nor are you to gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10You are not to pick the remnants of your vineyard, nor are you to gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. Instead, you are to leave them for the poor and for the outsider. I am Adonai your God. 11“You are not to steal. You are not to lie. You are not to deceive one another. 12“You are not to swear by My Name falsely, and so profane the Name of your God. I am Adonai. 13“You are not to oppress your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of a hired servant are not to remain with you all night until the morning. 14“You are not to curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God. I am Adonai. 15“You are to do no injustice in judgment. You are not to be partial toward the poor nor show favoritism toward the great, but you are to judge your neighbor with fairness. 16“You are not to go up and down as a talebearer among your people. You are not to endanger the life of your neighbor. I am Adonai. 17“You are not to hate your brother in your heart. Instead, you are to firmly rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. 18You are not to take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am Adonai. 19“You must keep My statutes. You are not to crossbreed different kinds of animals. You are not to sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor are you to wear a garment woven of two kinds of material. 20“If a man lies sexually with a woman who is a slave girl, pledged to be married to another man, but not ransomed or given her freedom, they are both to be punished. But they are not to be put to death, because she was not free. 21He is to bring his trespass offering to Adonai, to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting—a ram for a guilt offering. 22The kohen is to make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before Adonai for his sin that he committed, and the sin that he committed will be forgiven him. 23“When you come into the land and have planted all kinds of trees for food, you are to consider their fruit as forbidden. Three years it will be forbidden to you. It is not to be eaten. 24Then in the fourth year all its fruit will be holy, for giving praise to Adonai. 25In the fifth year you may eat its fruit. So it will yield its increase to you. I am Adonai your God. 26“You are not to eat any meat with the blood still in it, nor are you to use enchantments, or practice sorcery. 27“You are not to round off the hair on the sides of your heads, nor are you to mar the edge of your beard. 28You are not to make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead or make any tattoo marks upon yourself. I am Adonai. 29“Do not defile your daughter, to make her a prostitute, so that the land does not fall into prostitution, and become full of wickedness.30“You are to keep My Shabbatot, and reverence My Sanctuary. I am Adonai. 31“Do not turn to those who are mediums or to soothsayers. Do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am Adonai your God.32“You are to rise up in the presence of the gray-haired and honor the presence of the elderly. So you will fear your God. I am Adonai. 33“If an outsider dwells with you in your land, you shall do him no wrong. 34The outsider dwelling among you should be to you as the native-born among you. You should love him as yourself—for you dwelled as outsiders in the land of Egypt. I am Adonai your God. 35“You must not be dishonest in judgment—in measurements of length, weight or of quantity. 36You are to have honest balances, honest weights, honest bushel-measure and an honest gallon. I am Adonai your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. 37You must observe all My statutes and all My ordinances—do them. I am Adonai.”–from Exodus 19
So what are you going to do? How will you choose to live? Will you live within healthy boundaries? Will you refuse to allow the bad things inside your healthy boundaries? Will you choose to go it God’s Way? Consider how Jesus even calls us to a higher calling! So that God is lifted up!
Today’s reading concludes in John speaking of the preparation for Jesus – let’s check it out…
Miriam Anoints the Messiah1Six days before Passover, Yeshua came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Yeshua had raised from the dead. 2So they prepared a dinner there for Yeshua. Martha was serving, and Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him. 3Then Miriam took a pound of very expensive oil of pure nard and anointed Yeshua’s feet, and she wiped His feet dry with her hair. Now the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. 4But Judah from Kriot, one of His disciples, the one who was about to betray Him, said, 5“Why wasn’t this oil sold for three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor?” 6Now he said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief. Since he had the moneybox, he used to steal from what was put in it. 7Therefore Yeshua said, “Leave her alone! She set it aside for the day of My burial. 8You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have Me.” 9Now a large crowd of Judeans knew He was there and came, not only for Yeshua but also to see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead. 10So the ruling kohanim made plans to kill Lazarus also, 11because on account of him many of the Jewish people were going and putting their trust in Yeshua.
Israel’s King Has Come12The next day, the huge crowd that had come up for the feast heard that Yeshua was coming to Jerusalem. 13So they took palm branches and went out to meet Him, shouting, “‘Hoshia-na! Baruch ha-ba b’shem Adonai! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!” 14Finding a young donkey, Yeshua sat on it, as it is written, 15“Fear not, Daughter of Zion! Look! Your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”16His disciples did not understand these things at first. But when Yeshua was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that the crowd had done these things for Him. 17So the crowd, which had been with Yeshua when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, kept on telling everyone about it. 18It was also for this reason that the crowd came out to meet Him, because they heard that He had performed this sign. 19So the Pharisees said to each other, “You see that you can’t do anything. Look, the whole world has taken off after Him!”
Fallen Seed Produces a Harvest20Now there were some Greeks among those who were going up to worship at the feast.21These came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in the Galilee. “Sir,” they said, “we want to see Yeshua.” 22Philip comes and tells Andrew; Andrew and Philip come and tell Yeshua. 23Yeshua answers them, saying, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified! 24Amen, amen I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it produces much fruit. 25He who loves his life will lose it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it forever. 26If any man serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there also will My servant be. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. 27“Now My soul is troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But it was for this reason I came to this hour. 28Father, glorify Your name!” Then a voice came out of heaven, “I have glorified it, and again I will glorify it!” 29Therefore the crowd that was standing there and heard it was saying that it had thundered. Others were saying, “An angel has spoken to Him.” 30Yeshua responded, “This voice hasn’t come for My sake, but for yours. 31Now is the judgment of this world! Now the prince of this world will be driven out! 32And as I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all to Myself.” 33He said this to show the kind of death He was about to die. 34The crowd answered Him, “We’ve heard from Scripture that the Messiah remains forever. How can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”
Choose Either the Light or the Darkness35Therefore Yeshua said to them, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness will not overtake you. The one who walks in darkness doesn’t know where he is going. 36While you have the light, believe in the light so that you may become sons of light.” Yeshua spoke these things, then left and hid Himself from them. 37But even though He had performed so many signs before them, they weren’t trusting in Him. 38This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet, who said, “Adonai, who has believed our report? To whom has the arm of Adonai been revealed?” 39For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah also said, 40“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they might not see with their eyes nor understand with their hearts and turn back, and I would heal them.” 41Isaiah said these things because he saw His glory and spoke of Him. 42Nevertheless many, even among the leaders, put their trust in Him. But because of the Pharisees, they were not confessing Yeshua, so they would not be thrown out of the synagogue; 43for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God. 44Yeshua cried out, “Whoever puts trust in Me believes not in Me but in the One who sent Me! 45And whoever beholds Me beholds the One who sent Me. 46As light I have come into the world, so that everyone who trusts in Me should not remain in darkness. 47“If anyone hears My words but doesn’t keep them, I do not judge him; for I came to save the world, not to judge the world. 48The one who rejects Me and doesn’t receive My words has a judge; the word I spoke will judge him on the last day. 49For I did not speak on My own, but the Father Himself who sent Me has commanded Me what to say and speak. 50And I know that His commandment is life everlasting. Therefore what I say, I say just as the Father has told Me.”–from John 11
This translation with the Jewish naming is interesting as it also provides a different angle or perspective. It comes from Messianic Jewish Family Bible Society.
