Imagine hundreds of years earlier someone saying what was to come. Imagine the amount of effort it would take for every one of the to come true. Imagine how the world would have to change for it even to be possible. Imagine the scenario where it comes to reality. This morning’s reading about Jesus’ birth brought this idea to mind. It’s amazing how through Jesus Christ 44 prophesies were realized. If we focus on the team of today which was Jesus’ birth, it fulfilled 11:
|Prophecies Concerning His Birth||
Born of the Seed of Woman
Born of a Virgin
Son of God
Seed of Abraham
Son of Isaac
Tribe of Judah
Family Line of Jesse
House of David
Born at Bethlehem
Presented with Gifts
Herod Kills Children
So very interesting and what do we read in today’s reading about Jesus’ birth…
1At that time Emperor Augustus ordered a census to be taken throughout the Roman Empire. 2When this first census took place, Quirinius was the governor of Syria. 3Everyone, then, went to register himself, each to his own hometown. 4Joseph went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to the town of Bethlehem in Judea, the birthplace of King David. Joseph went there because he was a descendant of David. 5He went to register with Mary, who was promised in marriage to him. She was pregnant, 6and while they were in Bethlehem, the time came for her to have her baby. 7She gave birth to her first son, wrapped him in cloths and laid him in a manger—there was no room for them to stay in the inn. –Luke 2:1-7
It required the Emperor to make an order that would generate an uncomfortable journey in order that God’s will be fulfilled. But this isn’t the end of the story, let’s keep reading…
8There were some shepherds in that part of the country who were spending the night in the fields, taking care of their flocks. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone over them. They were terribly afraid, 10but the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. 11This very day in David’s town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord! 12And this is what will prove it to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13Suddenly a great army of heaven’s angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God:
14“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!”
15When the angels went away from them back into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us.” 16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and saw the baby lying in the manger. 17When the shepherds saw him, they told them what the angel had said about the child. 18All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said. 19Mary remembered all these things and thought deeply about them. 20The shepherds went back, singing praises to God for all they had heard and seen; it had been just as the angel had told them. –Luke 2:8-20
Imagine the aww and the wonder, the wow and the amazement. Getting past the fear and getting into the joy of the moment. Getting to be a part of fulfilling something that was spoken of so many years earlier.
God’s plans are better than our plans, His ways are higher than our ways, and if we are willing, He is able to do in us and through exceedingly more than we could ever ask or imagine!
To think it was all done out of the love of God the Father!
14For this reason I fall on my knees before the Father, 15from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives its true name. 16I ask God from the wealth of his glory to give you power through his Spirit to be strong in your inner selves, 17and I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love, 18so that you, together with all God’s people, may have the power to understand how broad and long, how high and deep, is Christ’s love. 19Yes, may you come to know his love—although it can never be fully known—and so be completely filled with the very nature of God. 20To him who by means of his power working in us is able to do so much more than we can ever ask for, or even think of: 21to God be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all time, forever and ever! Amen. –Ephesians 3:14-21
So let’s invite Jesus into our hearts! Let’s allow the love of God to live in and through us! Let’s be a light to the dark world around us so that Jesus can be glorified in and through us!
Let’s get involved in His great plans! Not sure what to do? Turn to God’s Word for wisdom and guidance! His Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path!
41Show me how much you love me, Lord, and save me according to your promise.
42Then I can answer those who insult me because I trust in your word.
43Enable me to speak the truth at all times, because my hope is in your judgments.
44I will always obey your law, forever and ever.
45I will live in perfect freedom, because I try to obey your teachings.
46I will announce your commands to kings and I will not be ashamed.
47I find pleasure in obeying your commands, because I love them.
48I respect and love your commandments; I will meditate on your instructions.
