In today’s reading our doctor continues to tell the story of Jesus. He speaks of the angel Gabriel coming and speaking to Mary to let her know she has been chosen to be the virgin mother of God’s son. He brings the news that his name is to be Jesus and that He will be called the son of God. God’s timing is perfect since He knew even before this encounter the questions Mary would ask to try and get a better understanding and in advance had already done a miracle in her relative Elizabeth. Today’s reading tells of that encounter. Timing is everything and God’s timing is perfect!
The Birth of Jesus Is Announced
26In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy God sent the angel Gabriel to a town in Galilee named Nazareth. 27He had a message for a young woman promised in marriage to a man named Joseph, who was a descendant of King David. Her name was Mary. 28The angel came to her and said, “Peace be with you! The Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you!” 29Mary was deeply troubled by the angel’s message, and she wondered what his words meant. 30The angel said to her, “Don’t be afraid, Mary; God has been gracious to you. 31You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God. The Lord God will make him a king, as his ancestor David was, 33and he will be the king of the descendants of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end!” 34Mary said to the angel, “I am a virgin. How, then, can this be?” 35The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and God’s power will rest upon you. For this reason the holy child will be called the Son of God. 36Remember your relative Elizabeth. It is said that she cannot have children, but she herself is now six months pregnant, even though she is very old. 37For there is nothing that God cannot do.” 38“I am the Lord’s servant,” said Mary; “may it happen to me as you have said.” And the angel left her.
God loves you right where you are at and too much to leave you there. He knows your questions and has answers ready for you. Don’t be afraid, God is a gracious God! Don’t be afraid, but accept what God has created you for. He created you on purpose for a purpose! Give your life into His hands and say “I am the Lord’s servant, may it happen to me as You have said Lord.” Let’s allow His will for our lives to be our will!
Let’s take a hold of the Lord’s Prayer as we begin this day so that in and through this day we may bring Him praise, honor, and glory in Jesus’ name. Let’s set time aside by ourselves to be filled up with God’s Word, God’s Spirit, and God’s will for our day and our lives! God’s Word is food for our soul, and similar to how we need to eat to live, we need to be in God’s Word to be filled. Allow God’s Spirit to fully immerse your life into God’s will. Let’s be living sacrifices and living testimonies of who God is to the world around us! I remember learning more about the Lord’s Prayer and stopping after each section…
Let’s lift Him up! Let’s give Him praise for all the things we are thankful and grateful for today. Let’s celebrate His greatness.
Let’s pray for His will in our lives to be done today! Let’s ask that His plans and His purposes for today be fulfilled. Let’s ask Him for wisdom for every meeting, encounter, interaction, activity, conversation we will have today so that He can be glorified. Call out the specific items and allow His Spirit to lead you and guide you throughout your day.
He knows what you are in need of, even before you ask. God’s Word tells us though that we have not because we ask not, so let’s ask Him for what we are in need of! Physical…Emotional…Relational…Financial… you know so ask.
Is there anything you need to get off your chest? Is there anything you have done or left undone that you need God’s forgiveness for? Give it up to Him! Are there others who rubbed you the wrong way or got your upset? Are there people in your life around you that you need to forgive? Then forgive them too. As God’s Word tells us that as we forgive others, He will forgive us!
Ask God for wisdom today! Ask Him for strength and courage to do what is right and to avoid the lies and the temptations of this world so that we will not be drawn away or out of His will.
So let’s praise Him and give Him the praise, the honor, and the glory as we close our prayer in Jesus’ name Amen!
We see this again in today’s reading in Paul’s writing where He prays that we will know what is the hope to which he has called you, how rich are the wonderful blessings he promises his people, and how very great is his power at work in us who believe. Paul writes…
15For this reason, ever since I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, 16I have not stopped giving thanks to God for you. I remember you in my prayers 17and ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you the Spirit, who will make you wise and reveal God to you, so that you will know him. 18I ask that your minds may be opened to see his light, so that you will know what is the hope to which he has called you, how rich are the wonderful blessings he promises his people, 19and how very great is his power at work in us who believe. This power working in us is the same as the mighty strength 20which he used when he raised Christ from death and seated him at his right side in the heavenly world. 21Christ rules there above all heavenly rulers, authorities, powers, and lords; he has a title superior to all titles of authority in this world and in the next. 22God put all things under Christ’s feet and gave him to the church as supreme Lord over all things. 23The church is Christ’s body, the completion of him who himself completes all things everywhere.
So let’s look to God today in all that we do! Today is the day that the Lord has made, let’s rejoice and be glad in it! He has a plan and a purpose for this day, so turn to Him and allow Him to enlighten your mind! Turn to Him and hold onto the rich blessings He promises and is giving to you. Jesus gave His all that we could have this relationship with God! So let’s put everything under the wisdom, the direction, the instruction, the plans, and the purposes of God! Let’s stick together as His body to this world!
And my reading today concludes in Psalm 119 where it says:
Obedience to the Law of the Lord
9How can young people keep their lives pure? By obeying your commands. 10With all my heart I try to serve you; keep me from disobeying your commandments. 11I keep your law in my heart, so that I will not sin against you. 12I praise you, O Lord; teach me your ways. 13I will repeat aloud all the laws you have given. 14I delight in following your commands more than in having great wealth. 15I study your instructions; I examine your teachings. 16I take pleasure in your laws; your commands I will not forget.
