What are you depending on?

Money? Trusting a system?

Are you getting stuck on something or in something? Out of pride? Because of $$$?

Consider how the system works and are you a part of it? Are you living the system or do you live and work differently? Are you trapped in that system?

Consider your attitude and your responses, your actions and your reactions because if you live the way of the world rather than the way of the Spirit you will get caught up and have to deal with the judgment that will come from this behavior. If you aren’t sure, turn to God and ask Him to give you eyes to see and ears to hear and wisdom to know areas of your life that need to change to save you from the coming judgment.

Make sure to be focusing on God’s way, worshiping Him so that You are in alignment with His way and His will and staying under His protection. Take time to talk with God. Let Him hear the desires of your heart in prayer. Spend time in His Word to hear what He has to say.

Coming Out of Babylon

by Os Hillman

…”Come out of her, My people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.”  (Revelation 18:4)

“Therefore in one day her plagues will overtake her” (Rev. 18:8a)

“Woe! Woe, O great city, O Babylon, city of power! In one hour your doom has come!” (Rev. 18:10b)

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Mt. 22:37)

For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.

Psalm 34:7 (NLT)

Biblical Truth:

In obedience to God the angels of the Lord watch over those who worship Him, they serve and protect against the power of evil.

Day 29: Prayer is the key to everything

by Steve Jamison

“Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good. He must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” (I Peter 3:10 )

Day 202 of 349

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this new day and for all that will be in it. I praise You for the incredible
hope and truth that I can build upon through my faith and trust in Jesus. I thank You Lord that You have great plans for me and I pray Lord for Your wisdom today as I look into everything that I have put before me so I know what needs to be done, what would be nice to get done, and what could get done. Help me Lord to prioritize and get the right things accomplished today that will give You praise, honor, and glory. May You Lord be lifted up in my thoughts, my words, and my actions so that in and through them all, You will receive all the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Put your hope and trust in the right place and in the right things.

What happens when you put your trust in the wrong things? Your trust gets broken and your hope for it shatters. What happens when your trust is broken? The things you thought were real vanish, the things you thought were important waver, the things you thought were foundational become shaky. What happens when your hope is shattered, the enemy of our soul starts to attack you with guilt and shame.

I looked to the Lord, and he answered me. He saved me from everything I was afraid of. Those who look to him beam with joy. They are never put to shame.

Psalm 34:4-5 (NIrV)

Biblical Truth:

We find comfort and joy in God through prayer; he is able to deliver us from all our fears.

So where can you put your hope and your trust? My hope comes from the Lord! Trust in the Lord with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your strength and in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.

Looking for comfort and peace? Turn to God in prayer and speak to Him about what is on your mind. He is so much bigger and so much greater than anything we will ever face. Let’s overcome fear with faith and love.

Ever wonder why? What is the reason? What is the purpose? Why am I here?

If we make the main thing the main thing, then we come to realize that the main reason we are here is to have a deep relationship with God. To fellowship with Him in and through every area of our lives. Spending time with Him and talking to Him about everything. Let’s make sure that the important things are top priority rather than letting the urgent things use up our time and resources.

Knowing Versus Doing

by Os Hillman

“I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection….” – Philippians 3:10

Closing question:

Are you taking the time to get to know Him today?

So where will your help and hope come from?

14You will be secure under a government that is just and fair. Your enemies will stay far away. You will live in peace, and terror will not come near. 15If any nation comes to fight you, it is not because I sent them. Whoever attacks you will go down in defeat. 16“I have created the blacksmith who fans the coals beneath the forge and makes the weapons of destruction. And I have created the armies that destroy. 17But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!Isaiah 54:14-17

My helps comes from the Lord!

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. – John 16:33

Day 201 of 349

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this new day and for all that You are going to do in and through it. This is the day that You have made so I will rejoice and be glad in it. You see what is in my heart Lord, You know what is going on in my head so I lift them up to You Lord and
ask that Your wisdom and Your vision and Your patience and Your peace and Your truth and Your love all filled me up to overflowing today. As I turn to Your Word for direction, I stop and spend time to hear from You. It is all about fellowship with You Lord and so I need You to speak to me throughout the day. It is all about fellowship so I pour out my heart to You today Lord asking for wisdom and that Your peace that goes beyond all understanding overflow that I may walk through this day with a good attitude that shines for Your honor and Your glory. Help me today Lord in all that I think, say, and do to bring You all the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Know what you are up against!

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood….”Ephesians 6:12

  • It’s a battle against unity!
  • It’s a battle against love!
  • It’s a battle against hope!
  • It’s a battle against doing good!
  • It’s a battle against excellence!
  • It’s a battle against commitments!

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” John 10:10

Are you being tormented with fear? Overcome it with love.

“16We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 17And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. 18Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 19We love each other because he loved us first. 20If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? 21And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their Christian brothers and sisters”1 John 4:16-21

Are you living a life that will give God the glory? Live with honor.

“Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.”1 Peter 2:12

The way to overcome when circumstances prevent you from accomplishing what you committed to is to over communicate. Show them that your motivation is to do what is right and then work with them to get to the right conclusion.

Spiritual Warfare

by Os Hillman

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood….” – Ephesians 6:12

“live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us” – 1 Peter 2:12

Os closes with this thought (visit his site and read all that he has to say)

“Ask God today to show you where the enemy is seeking to make you ineffective.

We wage a spiritual war that is not flesh and blood. We must fight this war with spiritual weapons applied to practical daily living.”

Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

Psalm 33:18-19 (KJV)

Biblical Truth:

God watches over those that worship Him and place their hope in His love. He is able to sustain us and keep our souls safe for eternity.

Day 27: But You Promised!

by Larry Murrell

9Then Jacob prayed, “O God of my grandfather Abraham, and God of my father, Isaac—O Lord, you told me, ‘Return to your own land and to your relatives.’ And you promised me, ‘I will treat you kindly.’ 10I am not worthy of all the unfailing love and faithfulness you have shown to me, your servant. When I left home and crossed the Jordan River, I owned nothing except a walking stick. Now my household fills two large camps! 11O Lord, please rescue me from the hand of my brother, Esau. I am afraid that he is coming to attack me, along with my wives and children. 12 But you promised me, ‘I will surely treat you kindly, and I will multiply your descendants until they become as numerous as the sands along the seashore—too many to count.’”Genesis 32:9-12

2This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not lie—promised them before the world began.Titus 1:2

Day 28: Prayer

by Dan Metteer

“And the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, ‘Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.’” – John 2:9-10

Do you have eyes to spot the miracles taking place in your life?

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this day and for all that will be in it. I praise You God for
everything you have and will do in my life. Give me eyes to see and celebrate Your hand in my life. Give me ears to hear where You want me to be and want me to go. Grant me wisdom to step out be everything You have created me to be and are calling me to do. Lord, may this be a great day for Your glory I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Today’s Reading: Discipleship Journal’s Book-at-a-Time Reading Plan

Day 200 of 349

Why do you need to suffer?

God is more concerned with our character than our comfort.

2Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. – James 1:2-4

If I consider suffering the pains of lies and disloyalty and what could be learned, I realize it taught the power and freedom that comes through forgiveness.

If I consider the internalization of the pain creating bitterness and anger, sadness and sickness and what it took to break free, it was God’s truth that forgiveness removes the weight and the burden so that and frees us to live a life that is blessed and shines the truth of the cross.

16“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.17God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.John 3:16-17

14“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.15But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. – Matthew 6:14-15

Don’t get eaten from the inside out, rather use God’s book of wisdom and live so that when it rains and when it shines, your life will shine and show how even in your suffering there is fruit being produced in and through your life.

What fruit is being produced from your life? Is it the Fruit of the Spirit?

22But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! – Galatians 5:22-23

The more suffering you are going through, the closer you need to draw to God so that you can learn and hear from Him. You don’t have to do it alone. You don’t have to go it alone. God has a plan that is bigger and better than we could ever ask or imagine. So as I consider the readings and devotionals of today, I grab onto the hope and truth that comes from a relationship with God. I remember and consider what I am allowing into my heart and mind. What do I listen to on the radio? What do I watch on TV? What do I read online or in books? Are they things that build me up or things that tear me down? Are they things that worship God or dishonor God? Spend time with God today and listen to His prompting. His ways will always be better and for our good.

TGIF closed with the following:

“If you find yourself in a time of suffering, now is the time to press into God. Let your roots grow deeper. Whenever there is a famine, tree roots are forced to drive deeper into the soil to find water. These times are designed to create such a deep-rooted faith that our natures will be changed forever.” – Os Hillman

Fruitful Suffering

by Os Hillman

…”It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”– Genesis 41:52

Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

Psalm 33:8 (KJV)

Biblical Truth:

Worship and glorify Him who created the heavens and the earth.

Day 27: Prayer

by Cheryl Jamison

“Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments.”Psalms 119:164

“In Him we live and move and have our being,”Acts 17:28

Heavenly Father,
I thank You Lord for this new day and all that will be in it. I lift up Your healing touch as sickness has entered the camp and I
ask that You touch each of our bodies to restore health back into our bodies. May this day glorify You Lord. May my thoughts, my words, and my actions shine Your light into this world in a way that lift You up and gives You all the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Don’t give up, it is totally worth it in the end.

I read the end of the book and I know who wins and who my hope is in.

5Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. Psalm 62:5

2My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!Psalm 121:2

I read the reason why Jesus came and it was a good reason.

16“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.17God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. 18“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. John 3:16-18

What are you focused on?

19“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.20Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.21Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.Matthew 6:19-21

33Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.Matthew 6:33-34

Where are you storing up your treasure?

20Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.Matthew 6:20

12Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. 14If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.1 Corinthians 3:12-15

Godly Rewards

by Os Hillman

“You have said, ‘It is futile to serve God. What did we gain by carrying out His requirements and going about like mourners before the Lord Almighty? But now we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly the evildoers prosper, and even those who challenge God escape.’” – Malachi 3:14-15

Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in His presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored His name. “They will be Mine,” says the Lord Almighty, “in the day when I take up My treasured possession. I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not” – Malachi 3:16-18

2“But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture. – Malachi 4:2

Os closes the devotional with this statement:

“God rewards faithful obedience. It often requires patience, suffering, and perseverance. Be of good cheer; He will reward you if you faint not.”

How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.

Psalm 31:19 (NLT)

Biblical Truth:

Treasures are stored up in the coming world for those who trust God and rely on His grace. He protects those in this world who love Him as a testimony to those around them.

Heavenly Father,
I thank You Lord for this new day and for all that will be in it. I praise You Lord for the incredible blessing of my family and my church and my friends. I thank You Lord that You are for me and not against me. Help me I pray as I step forward so that my steps are in alignment with Your will. Help me Lord as I step out  that my foot will land where You desire and that my
faith and trust in You will be lifted up because of my obedience to You. Give me eyes to see and ears to hear. Grant me wisdom for every situation and conversation. May You be glorified in and through it all I pray in Jesus’ name. I lift up my life and this day to You and ask that in and through it all You will receive all the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
