Where are you focusing your thoughts, your words, and your actions?

God doesn’t want us
to be focusing
on being victims,
but rather
to walk in the spirit of
love, and self-discipline
He has provided us.

7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:7

He reveals in His Word that He came that we would have life to the full.

10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

John 10:10

God’s Word also tells us we aren’t to be walking in cowardice and fear, but rather

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

Don’t be someone who thinks they are supposed to live a life of suffering that produces in you a victim mentality.

Yes, in this world we will have troubles, but Jesus overcame the world so we are to have hope, joy, peace, love. God isn’t glorified when we are suffering, he is glorified when we have a good attitude during our suffering.

HE wants us to be VICTORIOUS!

“So why would we choose to remain bitter, angry and wounded or depressed?”

As I remember a year ago, the way to get beyond being bitter, angry, wounded, and depressed was through the power of forgiveness. It got me beyond being a victim to becoming a victor in a very quick process. God took care of my heart which freed me to walk into the new and improved things that God had for me. My attitude changed even though what I walked into hadn’t but the output and the outcome was encouraging and stopped the downward spiral. I would never have asked to go through it, however, having gone through it though, I have been prepared to speak life, hope, and truth into the lives of so many of my friends who were being down and depressed. It has prepared me for those battles.

So let’s get excited about our future and realize that going through something with God means that we will come out the other side victoriously that cannot be taken away from us.

God Isn’t Glorified Through Our Suffering

2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

Colossians 3:2

Prayer Starter: (from today’s devotional)

God, I need Your help to overcome a victim mentality. I choose to set my mind on things above so that I can have the right attitude. With Your thoughts and truth inside me, I know I can overcome.

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this day and for the permanent reminder each year at this time of how You took me from the deepest valley and pulled me back up. Lord, the fact that You provided the release, the freedom, and the truth through the son 7×70 and then by speaking to me the freedom that come through forgiveness. Lord tax time will always bring back this reminder and help me to walk in the truth You have spoken into my life. Lord as I step out today, may the thoughts I have, the words I use, and the actions I take bring You all the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Fearful to Fearless

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.

Proverbs 12:25 (ESV)

Biblical Truth:

Anxiousness and fear are disabling to our heart and spirit. The prescription is a good word from God, obtained through prayer and put to use in faith.

Feeling down? Feeling sick? Don’t give up hope.

God can and cares about
emotional healing
as well as
physical and spiritual healing.

In the reading from Isaiah 61, we learn about how Jesus came to heal our wounds, to bind up our broken hearts, and to give us beauty instead of ashes and the oil of joy instead of mourning. May read the scripture and know God wants to heal our bodies and our soul, but some forget or don’t consider that He is also interested in healing our hearts and minds. In other words our emotional state is important to God too. Our emotions make up a big part of who we are and how we live and God knows that and is ready and able to help healing broken hearts, heal the thought pattern that is destructive, and so much more.

I know when I went through that deep valley, God continued to speak to me to try to encourage me what to do, and to even get the right songs on the radio to speak to me daily so that I would turn back and be healed. Sometime our own stubbornness keeps us from letting it go and giving it up to God. Sometimes we want to hold onto the bitterness and anger because of what others have done rather than to give it up to God and letting Him who cares so much about us take care of that heavy burden. He cares so much and if we get to the point where we stop trying to do it all in our own strength and turn back to God, He can heal us – mind, body, and soul, and take care of what we are in need.

Lord, You are so awesome and have done so much in me, thru me, and for me that I have to give You all the praise, the honor, and the glory. You showed me the truth of the power of forgiveness. You showed me the the truth and the hope that comes from giving up the big things into Your hands and the freedom that comes in and thru that. Praise be to God.

The world is full of people who are suffering from emotional pain today. In this world we will have troubles and things like abuse, rejection, abandonment, betrayal, disappointment, judgment, criticism or other negative behaviors by others can create incredible emotional pains. The reality is that in many cases emotional pain is more devastating than physical pain because it isn’t visible like a broken leg or a broken arm, along with the fact in many cases people feel they have to hide it and pretend it isn’t real. We need to make sure we don’t just take part of the sayings we remember, but grab onto the full context and allow the Bible to help interpret the Bible. God’s Word says:

33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

It doesn’t stop with the fact that there will be trials and sorrows. We need to remember that when we receive Jesus into our lives, the Holy Spirit moves into our hearts and lives in us and just like Jesus had the power to overcome the world, that power is now living in us. So we need to get a hold of that and allow God to speak truth into our lives and to give up those pains and trials into His hands so that we become overcomers through Christ who lives in us.

If you have an emotional wound in your life, you need to know that Jesus wants to heal you. Don’t make the mistake of thinking He is interested only in your spiritual and physical life. Take your wounds to Him. Jesus wants to heal you everywhere you hurt!

(notes from today’s devotional)

Sickness Isn’t Only Physical!

1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me,
for the LORD has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted
and to proclaim that captives will be released
and prisoners will be freed.

Isaiah 61:1

Prayer Starter: (from today’s devotional)

Lord, thank You for caring about every part of me, including my emotions. Any emotional pains and wounds that I have, I bring to You. I know that You can heal and restore me.

Heavenly Father,
I thank You Lord for this new day and all that will be in it. I thank You Lord that You were able to take a day that looked too big and provided grace and wisdom to allow me to walk through it in a way that would glorify You. Lord, as I look to You as my source, my wisdom, my guide, I put all my hope and trust in You. I look for Your truth that You speak into and over me. Lord, as I look to today, I give it up into Your hands. I ask that You would give me the wisdom I need for every situation I face. I pray for Your provision for every need be it time, wisdom, resources so that in all I say or do or think, it would point back to You and give You the reward, the glory. Lord, there are so many people in this world who need to know You. There are so many people who are afraid to trust You out of fear of losing something because of the lies of the devil. Help me Lord to share with others today in a way where they will realize that having Jesus in my life is so much bigger and so much better than anything else. Help me Lord to share with others today the hope and truth about how much there is to gain because of having a relationship with Jesus. Most of all Lord, help me to live a life today that will bring You praise, honor, and glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Fearful to Fearless

The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.

Proverbs 10:27 (TNIV)

Biblical Truth:

The hopes of the wicked turn to disappointment, but the hopes of the righteous are joyful and eternal. Our life on earth is content and gratifying because of the love of the Lord.

Do you realize He isn’t out there somewhere, but is right here with us?

Immanuel or Emmanuel or Imanu’el
(Hebrew עִמָּנוּאֵל "God [is] with us" consists of two Hebrew words:
אֵל (’El, meaning ‘God’) and
עִמָּנוּ (ʻImmānū, meaning ‘with us’);

Are you walking in the joy that God desires each of us to be walking in?

Are you walking with a sense of insecurity that is robbing that joy from you and creating additional problems in your life? It builds up walls instead of taking them down when it comes to relationships. It makes you hold back rather than going full out after something. It paralyzes you because you start to over analyze things. Are you stuck? Are you being held back? Are you trying to break down that wall or other barriers that got put up? There is hope and there is an answer.

The one thing that will set us free from this insecurity is TRUTH. Real truth that is God’s truth. God’s Word tells us that we don’t need to struggle with this as we just need to turn back to God. What man struggles to get from other people, God will give to us freely.

God will give us

So let us remember that He is

(see Psalm 9:9; 31:4; 32:7; 37:39; 46:11)

So let’s turn back to Him for our worth, value, acceptance, and approval. The source of all TRUTH. “As long as we have those, we have the most valuable things in the world.”

“As you look to Him, you will be lifted to new levels of freedom, becoming the confident, mature person you were created to be.”

(notes from today’s devotional)

Make God Your Source of Approval

11 The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.

Psalm 46:11

Prayer Starter: (from today’s devotional)

Lord, I look to You for security. I focus on the truth – You are my refuge and strength. You give me love and acceptance. In You alone I am completely confident.

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this new day and for all that is taking place in it. I thank You Lord for providing me with the right people at the right time to be able to handle and take care of the problems that come my way. Lord, my hope and trust are in You and so I look to You today as I step out after a day that was supposed to be catch-up and get ahead (according to my plans) but ended up being a day where I helped get things in place at home and am in the same position I was in on Tuesday at work. Help me today to get all the ducks in a row that I need to day. Your Word tells me to focus on today, don’t worry about tomorrow, so I will do that today. Help me to get all the things I need in place for today in place before they are needed so that today will be a day where You will be glorified as I work unto You. Lord, You are so incredible and Your Word is so motivational as it speaks love, hope, and truth into my life. It is the boost that gets my day started physically, mentally, and emotionally. With it I know the day will go well. Without it, I know I feel I have an extra load to carry which keeps me from being all that You desire for me to be that day. Help me Lord today to receive Your WISDOM today. Help me Lord to have Your focus and discernment for every situation and opportunity I am in today. I lift up my family, friends, and all those I will meet today and ask Lord that in their lives You will be revealed and lifted up so that in all I say and think and do, today You will receive all the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Fearful to Fearless

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10 (KJV)

Biblical Truth:

We gain understanding when we fill our minds with the word of God and serve Him.

Have you received the gift? How has it changed your life?

Jesus offers you the gift:
peace of mind and heart.
Receive it,
Accept it,

Live it.
So don’t be troubled or afraid.

The peace God provides is real and yet unimaginable. His peace goes beyond understanding.

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7

Just like everything else in life we need to make a choice, a decision.
Will you choose to live in the peace He has given you?

That is the last thing the devil wants and will go into overtime to get you off of your game and work to get you upset. Why you might ask? Because he wants to keep you from hearing what God is saying. So that you will stay distracted and be drawn from the voice of truth that could calm the situation or even get you out of it.

Keep an eye on what is going on in your life. Be on the lookout for the number of times per week that Satan launches an attack against you for the sole purpose of stealing your peace. Like many things seeing it, detecting the issue, knowing it is the beginning of being able to do something about it. You will come to the realization that “if the devil wants your peace that badly, then there must be something pretty powerful about being peaceful."

So let’s get started today. When the devil tries to steal your peace, enjoy holding onto it, knowing you are getting the better of him. You are walking with God and it is driving the devil crazy. We will still get upset from time to time, however, you are now empowered to do something about it, you can control what you do and how  you respond.

I wish I had of read this or at least implemented it a couple of days ago. I wouldn’t have done what I did and then needed to apologize for it. At the same time, because I did it, God’s Word yesterday convicted me and I made apology cards for both of them. They forgave me and yesterday was a great day. We get to choose what we will do. We get to choose how we will respond. We get to choose what we allow into our heads, we get to choose what we allow into our hearts.

Peaceful on Purpose

27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

John 14:27

Prayer Starter: (from today’s devotional)

Lord, thank You for providing me with Your peace. When the devil tries to steal my peace, reveal his plans to me. I won’t let him take my peace. Instead, I’ll remain rooted in You.

Heavenly Father,
I thank You Lord for this new day and for all that was in it. I praise You Lord for taking me from a very stressful position and bringing Your peace back into my life. I thank You that You case so much and are so much bigger than anything that I will face that You care and are able to take care of my work and home life situations. Lord, I thank You for Your Word that never returns void. I praise You Lord for providing such an incredible gift of peace that goes beyond understanding. I praise You Lord for the incredible sacrifice that You made by sending Jesus into this world not only to provide us with an example, not only to fulfill prophesy, but to complete the work and provide a way for me to be reconciled back unto You. Lord, as I start this day help me to make a list, help me to take this day’s blank canvas and produce for You an incredible work of art so that in all I say, think, and do, You will receive all the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Fearful to Fearless

I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge and discretion. The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.

Proverbs 8:12-13 (NKJV)

Biblical Truth:

Worship the Lord and discover knowledge and discretion. Wisdom hates the evil ways of others, be sure to hate them in yourself.

Ever notice how everyone is different? Just means we need to love and appreciate them because of how God made them.

The Bible tells us that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” or in another translation made “so wonderfully complex”. God spent time and creativity on each of us so that we would be the individuals that He wanted us to be. Unfortunately we sometimes try to just love everyone the same way, but different people have different love languages, different ways people feel loved or hear love? As we go through life we see that different people need different things from us. Some may need more personal time than another. Some may need more encouragement than others. And others may just need different forms of love.

So knowing that we are all different, lets respect each others rights. Let’s not be selfish and expect everyone to be like us, rather love respecting people’s differences. If we were supposed to all be the same, God would have made us all the same with the same fingerprints and all. God has created us all equal, just different.

We each have our own gifts and talents. We each have our own likes and dislikes. We each have our own goals in life and motivations. So let’s love people with respect and encourage their differences.

(notes from today’s devotional)

Love Everyone Differently

14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

Psalm 139:14

Prayer Starter: (from today’s devotional)

God, help me to appreciate the differences in others and then love them accordingly. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made. Thank You for the amazing creation of each individual You have placed in my life.

Heavenly Father,
I thank You Lord for this new day and for all that will be in it. Help me Lord to see people and know how to love them in a way that is meaningful and valued by them. I know we here people say “I love you the same” when asked by their kids who do you love more. Help us Lord to love the same quantity but differently that makes it meaningful and helpful to others. Lord give me strength and courage to speak love and repentance to those I have hurt. Lord give me strength and courage to speak love and forgiveness to those who have hurt me. Allow me to walk in a spirit of grace and forgiveness that helps build up and point others towards You. As we head towards palm Sunday and then towards the passion week Lord, I thank You that You loved us so much that You were willing to do the BIG thing, the ultimate thing to be able to reconcile us back unto You. Lord, give us a spirit of reconciliation which help us not only to build up and repair our own situations, but to be able to look into the lives and situations around us to be able to help bring reconciliation into the lives of the people around us. Lord, may this day be incredible for You and may You receive all the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Fearful to Fearless

Be not afraid of sudden terror and panic, nor of the stormy blast or the storm and ruin of the wicked when it comes [for you will be guiltless], For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught [in a trap or some hidden danger].

Proverbs 3:25-26 (AMP)

Biblical Truth:

When you are caught off guard and become confused, never lose sight of the Lord who is our protector, let Him be your confidence.
