There are 3 types of love
the Bible teaches us about.
which means friendship or tender affection
– this is where Philadelphia get the name
city of brotherly love.
which is the passionate love
we feel for a lover.
And the greatest of all is
which is the kind of love
God has toward His Son
the human race.
It’s the love that allowed Him
to send Jesus
as the ultimate sacrifice
to this earth
that man could be reconciled
back unto God.
If you haven’t studies “LOVE” in the Bible, it is definitely something worth spending the time to understand and receive. You might even find a church near you that is preaching on this very topic or even some may have podcasts on it. John 3:16 and Matthew 5:44 are two scriptures that speak to God’s agape love. In John we read: "For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." In Matthew we read: “44 But I say, love your enemies!t Pray for those who persecute you!” We read in Matthew that we are supposed to love beyond our human nature. We are supposed to go against what would seem natural and show God’s love in and through it all. It’s easy to pray for people who are good to you. It is a stretch though to pray for people who have wounded you, who are being mean to you, or who are actually blatantly out to get you. It’s easy to hangout with your friends at church, but much harder to seek out that person who looks like they’re miserable and alone and just listen to them for a while. That’s what God is calling us to share and shine though, AGAPE love, sacrificing our comfort to do what’s righteous.
Looking for a way to share “AGAPE LOVE” with people?
Try being patient with them.
Try being understanding with them.
Try saying something encouraging.
Try to keep quiet and just listen.
Our natural tendency is inward, thinking about ourselves, and being selfish. So let’s make a change, let’s declare war on selfishness and our natural tendencies by using and grabbing onto AGAPE LOVE.
Now is the time to get started. It’s time to be good and loving to people. It’s time to start doing it on purpose and look to learn more about it and get better at it through reading God’s Word – the Bible – and hearing what it says about love and starting to let the agape love of God in you overflow to others.
Consider how love is described in 1 Corinthians 13:
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Prayer Starter: (from today’s devotional)
Lord, Your powerful agape love is amazing. Empower me as I declare war on selfishness and make a decision to, on purpose, live a life of agape love.
I thank You Lord for this new day and for all that will be in it. I praise You Lord for the time of renewing of my spirit in Your presence and the renewing of my body with a good night rest. I thank You Lord that You give me strength to press through every situation. I thank You Lord for the wisdom You have available and make available to me when I ask for it. I praise You Lord for Your Spirit who is with me, never leaving me nor forsaking me, and waiting for me to invite Him into every and any situation I will face. Lord, as You pour into my life LOVE, I pray Lord that I would allow it to fill me to overflowing that it would run over and impact the lives of those people around me. I pray Lord that You would grant me the wisdom to be able to glorify You in every situation, in every action, in every statement, and with every thought that comes to me. Lord, I lift up my family and ask Lord You help us to stay in alignment with Your plans and purposes so that we would stay under Your protective shield (the blood of Jesus) and away from the fiery darts of the devil who is trying to distract and derail us from Your ultimate plan. Lord, I lift this day into Your hands and give You all the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Verse of the Day
10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.
My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long.
Psalm 71:7-8 (NLT)
Remain confident and trust in God during trouble and worrisome times, He is our protection. Our trust and hope in Him is a testimony for those around us.
