Don’t allow
distractions and activities
to keep you
from hearing God speak.
Draw near to Him
so that
nothing can keep you
from hearing his voice.
There are many things
that can keep you busy
but
in the end
everything will pass away,
but
God will still be there
and
you definitely want
to have had
and
built up a great
relationship with Him
so that you know Him.
Don’t let the world’s easy access to things that will fill your ears (TV, radio, activities, events) drown out the voice of God and push Him far, far into the background of your life. We will all come to the end of our lives where the only thing that remains is God and what decision have we made for Him. God has put that spot in your heart, that hole that is waiting to be filled with His presence when you invite Him into your life.
Have you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Have you turned back to God and ask Jesus into your heart? Do you know the gift this truly is?
Consider what we learn in Romans 1:19-21:
19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. 21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.
Consider what we learn in reading 14:12
12 Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.
All it takes to be made right with God according to His own Word is:
9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”
Romans 10:9,13
Have you heard and realized the benefits?
1 Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
Romans 5:1
1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,t neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39
Choose to fill that hole with God rather than trying to hide from or ignore this instinctive inner knowledge of God who wants to talk to you and guide you in the ways you should go. Choose to server God with all of your life walking with Him, talking with Him, hearing His voice of wisdom and direction. This is a hunger and a yearning within us that is expressed well in Isaiah 26:9. We all have a choice and the reality is that hearing from God is a vital component to enjoying the eternal plan for our lives. We all have freewill and get to make the choice of filling that void with God. He doesn’t force us to choose His way, but He will prompt us and encourage us to say yes to His ways.
So what are the distractions in your life? What is keeping you from listening to what God has to say? An unhealthy relationship? A job? A bad habit? What you let into your head driving into work? What you let into your mind through your eyes watching TV or surfing the internet? God wants a relationship with You so put it aside, whatever it is and start your journey with Him today.
(notes from today’s devotional)
Set Aside Distractions
9 All night long I search for you;
in the morning I earnestly seek for God.
For only when you come to judge the earth
will people learn what is right.
Isaiah 26:9
Prayer Starter: (from the devotional)
God, like Isaiah, my soul longs for You. I know that I need to listen to Your voice more than anything else. I know that as I set aside distractions, You will be faithful to meet with me.
Heavenly Father,
I thank You Lord for this new day and for all that is with in it. I praise You Lord for a great birthday day for my son and for the time we got to spend with family and friends. Lord, as I sit here and seek You, reading Your Word, sharing Your truth and hope, I need You Lord to grant me wisdom and courage. Wisdom to know and courage to do what You speak and prompt me to do. Lord help me I pray to be more like You. Help me Lord to be a light that shines for Your glory. Help me Lord to be salt that spices up the lives of those around me for the glory of Your kingdom. There is more than stuff and the here and now that I need to hold onto. Help me Lord to be the husband and father that helps leads my family towards You and into Your presence so that for all generations after me, my family will be drawn and embracing to You. Help my priorities Lord. Help remove the distractions. And Lord as I step out to serve You today, may You receive the praise, the honor, and the glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Verse of the Day
19 That night the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven. 20 He said, “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power.21 He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.22 He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light.23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors, for you have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of you and revealed to us what the king demanded.”
Daniel 2:19-23
Fearful to Fearless
16 So don’t be dismayed when the wicked grow rich and their homes become ever more splendid.17 For when they die, they take nothing with them. Their wealth will not follow them into the grave.
Psalm 49:16-17
Do not be envious or fearful of those with worldly riches and power, for the wealth of this world does not pass on to the next. Remember that we all enter the world as sinful people, but believers exit the world, through grace, renewed and covered in the richness and righteousness of Christ.
Chronological
Today – Day 215
- 2 Chronicles 32
- Are you encouraging others by sharing the hope and trust and power of God?
Then Hezekiah encouraged them by saying:7 “Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side! 8 He may have a great army, but they are merely men. We have the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles for us!” Hezekiah’s words greatly encouraged the people.
- There will be naysayers who will try to lead you from the truth and hope. But have faith and trust in God. Cry out to Him as your fortress and strong tower. The battle belongs to the Lord.
21 And the LORD sent an angel who destroyed the Assyrian army with all its commanders and officers. So Sennacherib was forced to return home in disgrace to his own land. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons killed him there with a sword. 22 That is how the LORD rescued Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from King Sennacherib of Assyria and from all the others who threatened them. So there was peace throughout the land. 23 From then on King Hezekiah became highly respected among all the surrounding nations, and many gifts for the LORD arrived at Jerusalem, with valuable presents for King Hezekiah, too.
- Keep from becoming proud and losing the fact and the truth of all that God has done in and through your life.
- If you fall into pride, turn from it and back to God. Humble yourself and repent of what you have said and done.
- Every single gift is from the Lord. He owns it all, so be a good steward of what He has given you.
- Remember your lessons. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s voice. Do what is right that you won’t stumble and fall.
- 2 Chronicles 33
- Leave a legacy to be remembered
- Leave a map to help people find their way
- What way will they go after you are gone?
- Don’t be drawn into (sorcery, divination, witchcraft) the wrong stuff or consult with (mediums or psychics) the wrong things, keep your eyes on God.
- When you walk to far from God, you will no longer be under the covering and the protection that He has set into place. Consider an umbrella, if you are under it compared to walking outside of its covering.
- Remember that the LORD along is God – there is one and only God.
